The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants: Bridget Vreeland The song “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield fits the character of

Bridget because she loves running and describes it as something that helps her achieve her goals and clear her mind. Bridget strives to reach her goals. After a run, she even acknowledges how much she loves challenging herself and meeting her goal: “She spread out her arms, happy. ‘I’ve always been goal oriented’” (Brashares 86). Running gives her a chance to clear her mind and realize the path ahead of her. It challenges her and excites her at the same time: “She loved the feeling of strain in her muscles, the exhilaration that came with mounting exhaustion” (Brashares 85).

“Unwritten” expresses a similar outlook in terms of not letting anything stand in your way: “Reaching for something in the distance / So close you can almost taste it / Release your inhibitions” (Bedingfield). This song perfectly matches Bridget’s outlook throughout the book as she learns to become independent and gain self-confidence through her accomplishments and achieving her goals.

“When life hands you a lemon, say, ‘Oh yeah, I like lemons. What else ya got?’”

- Henry Rollins
