ISSUE #5 February 2018
Welcome to the fifth issue of the “Weatherly Ga-
zette” for the 2017-2018
school year.
Thank you again for all who con-tinue to contrib-
ute to the school paper, issue after is-
sue. It is really great to hear all
of the great things going on in our district
and in the com-munity.
For the past few months Miss Kufro’s HS Family Consumer Science class has been deco-rating a bulletin board to promote positive values. For the month of February, the students that decorated the bulletin board were Abigail Milore, Corra Chincola, Alyssa Murphy, and Skyler Provizzi. They decided on a Valentine’s Day theme. Their values for their board were creativity, responsibility, confidence, and accountability.

Kufro’s Closet
Senior of the Month—Khadijah Zuberi
Khadijah Zuberi, daughter of Ramazan Zuberi and Sylvia Riben, White Haven, has been named Sen-ior of the Month for January at Weatherly Area High School. Khadijah is a member of the WAHS chapter of the National Honor Society, the Interact Club, SGA, Student Forum, and the Drama Club. Khadijah also plays on the high school soccer and softball teams.
In the community, Khadijah volunteers her time with the Tweedle Park cleanup effort, and vari-ous NHS projects. Khadijah is employed by White-water Challengers.
Sponsor for the month of January is Dr. Sharon P. Lachette and the White Haven Veterinary Hospital in White Haven.
Kufro’s closet began in the beginning of December. The closet was started to help students get newer clothes and accessories. It accepts offers of scarves, pants, purses, shirts, dresses, and now starting to collect shoes. Kids from the high school have said nothing but amazing things about the closet. Kaitlyn Lindemuth is a very frequent senior who goes to the closet and she said “It is a way for less fortunate students who can’t go shopping often to get a chance for new clothes and a new wardrobe.”
The closet takes in new and slightly used clothes from teachers, students, friends and family of teachers and students, anyone who has something to donate!

Novel Review
This month, I have reviewed Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. This is a story about how a girl, Maddy, is allergic to the world. She can not go outside at all. Yet, a new neighbor moves in next door and eve-rything changes. Maddy risks her life to spend time with her new friend. Things take an unfortunate turn when Maddy and Olly run off to Hawaii. Her condition gets the best of her, or so that is what she’s told. What is the real truth? Everything, Everything was a fantastic story and I defi-nitely recommend it. -Antonia Prete
“Meet the Robot”
On Monday, February 12th, a group of Weatherly Area Middle School and High School students attended a "Meet the Robot" event at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton. The students had the opportunity to maneuver and control the "DaVinci Surgical Robot" and speak to the surgeons who use the robot for a variety of medical procedures. Pictured, from left to right, are: Rhianne Markovchick, Gianna Lowman, Jessica Moser, Timothy Magushak, Mason Stewart, Johathan Mil-ler, Jash Khatiwala, Lucas Cirimpei, Mrs. Koons, Noah Borella-Guzman.

Teachers’ Pets
“Meet Eleanor Rigby. We just call her
"Rigby." She is a lab/shiba inu mix that we
rescued from the Hillside SPCA in May of
2017. Rigby is about 9 months old! She is a
sweet, lovable, and very energetic pup! Rigby
can sit, shake and stand on her back legs and
twirl for a treat! Her favorite toys are soft and
squeak, but she does love when we fill her
"kong" with peanut butter! She is a ton of fun
and very smart. Rigby even rings a bell that
hangs on the doorknob when she wants to go
outside! But watch out! She loves to steal
socks from the laundry! We also have a cat
"Luna." She loves to snuggle! Sometimes
she likes to catch things outside to leave as a
gift for us. But you know cats; she pretty
much keeps to herself. The Koons' are
thrilled to have Rigby and Luna as part of our
family!”
