The Lessee shall:

Keep said equipment in good order and repair and not encumber the said equipment, or do or permit anything to the prejudice of the Company's title; comply with all Acts of Parliament, Provincial Ordinances and all regulations and bye-laws and all other laws whatsoever, applicable to suoh equipment and the premises on which it is installed; exonerate the Company and hold it harmless from all claims, suits and liabilities of every character whatsoever and howsoever arising from the existence or the use of such equipment.

3. Permit the Company during the currency of this agreement to maintain upon the said premises signs for the advertisement o.f' the Company'& brands of Petroleum Products.

4. Return the ~aid equipment to the Company at th~ termination of this agreement, in good order and condition.

This agreement shall remain in force :until. cancelled by thirty (30) days written notice from either party. 24th March, 1893, contains the essence of

the fair and just policy laid down by the

British Government rJgarding British Indians,

and . it was on the strength of this declaration

RULES ~.U!E, ADDRF.sS AND DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT.

The Chamber shall be known by the name of the Indian Chamber of C<>mmerce, and shall be deemed to have been

~~t.,blished on the 17th day of October, 1931.

The offices of the Chamber shall, for the time being1 be ~itu:tU!- at Durban. in the Province of Natal, .and the ad<1re'iti iu Du.ban shall be 101 Queen Street.

OBJECTS.

The sel"eral aims :tnd objects of tbe Cl1::imber shall be:-

:\) To promote and protect trade and commerce generally:

(b) o promote and support or protoot against legislation a~antageously or adversely affecting Indian trade :n­ter sts and enterpri~e.

(c) To ~ect :tnd classify mercantile and kindred statistics and a: l other particulars and informa,tion relating ·to Indian mercantile interests especially and to t·be oom­mer~ ,~ the country gene_r~lly. _ · . ·.

(i) To provide facilities for the settlement of disputes and disagreements on commercial matters for arbitration.

(j) To provide for 6ettlement by ind~ndent arbitration under the arbitration lawe of the Union of all matters arising out of the acti\·itie.s and operations of this Chamber in so far 11$ such matters may be settled by mear.J of arbitration.

(k) To initiate, un<lertake :i.nd perform all and whatsoever may be expedient to more fully and effoctivr.ly c:irr~· out the aim6 and objects of tlie Indian Ol1amber of Commerce.

ME~IBERSHIP.

Member.ship shall be open to all ho11r1 fide Indian merchants and tradera within the Union of South Africa. Tho Application& for membernhip shall be considered by the Committee, who may decline to entertain any application without assigning any reasons therefor. An unsucc€J6sful a.pplicant for membership may, however, appeal to the full Chamber for- admission.

-SUBSCRIPTION.

Up()n election a member shall pay the snm of One Pou sterling annually, bei1_1_g bis suoocription fee 6ecu_ring his val membership of tJhe Chamber. All subscription fees shall / be payable in advance to the Hon. Treasurer who shall gi:ve n valid receipt therefor in the name of the Cha.mbelr ·

ELECTIONS.

All Officials shall go out of office on and as from the date of the Annual General Meetin12; in January, and shall be eligible for re-el~t_ion at t he Annual General Meeting to :hold office for the ell6umg year.

MEETINGS.

The General and Special General Meet­ings shall be open to all honn fide \members of the Chamber.
