CATEGORIES OF FOREIGN STUDENTS ADMITTED TO IIT GUWAHATI FOR FULL TIME MASTERS AND PH.D. PROGRAM-

1. Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)

Foreign students holding foreign passports but with OCI or PIO cards, admitted to PG programs in IITG, the fees charged may be the same as applicable for normal foreign students. Any concession applicable to citizens of SAARC countries should also be available to them if they hold passports from any of the SAARC countries

2. Self - Financed Candidates:

Those candidates applying for admissions in IITG Guwahati under self-finance category should

provide Financial declaration by Parents/ Guardian /self and send their complete application

with all the supporting documents.

3. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) candidates-

Applications of Foreign Nationals nominated by the ICCR, Ministry of External Affairs Government of India under scholarship scheme shall be entertained only for the Masters and Ph.D. programmes of the Institute.

4. Sponsored Candidates

Applications of fully sponsored Foreign Nationals for Master’s and Ph.D. program nominated by Ministry of Education, Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. And also the applications of Foreign Academic staff for Ph.D. from Defence Engineering College, Ethiopia

5. Candidates from partner institutions having MOUs with IITG

For students from institutions which have signed MOUs with IITG, admission will be made

under the terms and conditions given in the MOU

a. All Doctoral (Ph.D.) Programs [M.D. Dual (M.Tech+Ph.D.), Dual (M.S. + Ph.D.)] b. Two (2) year’s Masters Programs [M.Tech/M.Des./ M.Sc. / M.A. / M.S. (Research) ] c. Four (4) years Undergraduate program (B. Tech. / B.Design)

GENERAL GUIDELINES :

1. The applicant should have completed 17 years of age; there is no maximum age limit for

foreign students

2. Student must have an appropriate Student Visa or Research Visa for the planned study

program. The applicant should contact the Indian Embassy or High Commission in

his/her home country for more information on the type of visa needed.

4. ENGLISH is the only language used for teaching in IIT Guwahati

5. In case of students from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, and Sudan the

application MUST be forwarded/ endorsed through the Indian Embassy or the High

Commission in their respective countries.

6. Candidates seeking admission under a Cultural Exchange Fellowship program are

required to apply through the Indian High Commission/Embassy in their respective

countries

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

The application form with copies of supporting documents should be sent to the address given below. To expedite processing, a copy of the application and scanned copies of the supporting documents should also be sent by email to hosaa@iitg.ernet.in

IITG does not charge application/processing fees from foreign applicants.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS REQUIRED (all self-attested):

1. For Self - Financed Candidates, Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI): a. Application form available in IITG website b. Updated Resume c. Transcripts/ grade cards/ degree of last qualifying examination. d. Three recommendations letter- at least one recommendation should be from a

faculty member of the last attended Institute. e. Copy of valid passport

f. Statement of purpose (500 words) g. Two (2) recent passport size color photos h. Applicants are requested to attach a MEDICAL FITNESS CERTIFICATE from a doctor

attesting to their physical and medical fitness. (format available in the IITG website) i. Documentary proof to illustrate fluency in English language. j. Financial undertaking from the candidate.

2. For Fully Sponsored Candidates/ Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) candidates:

a. Candidates seeking admission under the fully paid sponsorship should forward their

application from their sponsoring Institute/body along.

b. Candidates seeking admission under a Cultural Exchange Fellowship program are

required to apply through the Indian High Commission/Embassy in their respective

countries. They will send the application to ICCR Government of India and then ICCR

will forward the application/s to various University / Institute in India as the case

may be for consideration.

c. In case the applicant is found suitable for admission, admission offer letter will be

sent to him/her through their respective sponsoring Institute/ body.

3. For students from institutions which have signed MOUs with IITG:

Admission will be made under the terms and conditions given in the MOU, the candidate should be officially nominated and forward their application through the International office of the home Institute.

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES

a. For M.Tech. , M.Des. and Ph.D. Candidates:

Concerned department will constitute a selection committee (case to case basis) with at least 3 (three) members headed by HOD of the concerned department. Followed by a Skype / Telephonic interview. Applicants are advised to have an active Skype ID.

b. For B.Tech. Program: Selection of candidates for B.Tech. Program is done through Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced) centrally conducted every year for all IIT Guwahati.

c. For B.Design program: Selection of candidate for B.Des. programme is done through Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) centrally conducted every year for IITs which have B.Des. programme.

d. For M.Sc. program: Selection of candidates for M.Sc. programme is done through Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) centrally conducted for all IITs

OFFER OF ADMISSIONS

Admission offer will be made based on recommendations received from the department. The

student will be informed by email/ post. Students applying through their sponsoring body will be

intimated through the same.
