Kamlesh Vashistha, R. M., New India Ins. Co., Shri A. K. Sharma, Vice-Chairman & Dy. Manager, New India & Shri. M. C. Chaturvedi, M. M., LIC, Jaipur. Oral Tuition Classes: The Institute is offering Oral Tuition Classes for the full courses of 17 subjects from C.I.S to Fellowship Examination on Life Branch. For Nov. 2003 the classes started from the 3 rd week of August and concluded in the first week of November 2003. Special care has been taken in selecting competent & sincere faculty for all the subjects. A system of feed back from students was in place to monitor the quality of tuition. Beema Beekshan: July– September 2003 issue of the house magazine- ‘Beema Beekshan’ was published on 1 st October 2003. A special section titled “Examination Guide” comprising solutions of past year’s Questions in Associateship & Fellowship Examination received tremendous response from the members. The Editorial Board is taking special care to ensure that latest information of interest reaches the members. Agents’ Training: Year 2003-2004 was earmarked as the “Year of Agents’ Training”, as revealed from the following series of our training activities: On 17 th July, 2003 a special Training Programme was organized at the Bharat Bhavan at the initiative of Sri Amitava Dutta, Development Officer of CBO-2 and Sri Barun Sarkar, Development Officer of CBO-18. The topics for the session were “Comparative Product Analysis of various Insurance Providers in India and Latest Changes in the Underwriting Practices in LIC”. The Speakers were Sankar Das & Arun Patra. On 20 th November another training was organized at the request of Sri D. Banerjee and Sri S. Daw of Shyambazar Branch.30 IRDA agents took part in the session. Sri S. Das, Sri A.Patra ,Sri.S.Chowdhury and Sri M.Chakravarty were the faculty. The topics were Conventional Pro- ducts, Pension and Unit linked pro- ducts, Underwriting and Prospecting. A tailor made session was organized from 10 th Dec. – 13 th Dec’03 at the DTC Hall, Jeevan Prakash, 16 C.R.Avenue, Kolkata- 700 072. Sri M.R.Nag, top Development Officer of CBO-5 nominated their club member agents for the session. Sri Tapas Sil, Assistant Branch Manager (Sales) of the Branch graced the occasion and applauded the role of the Institute. 60 Agents participated at the four days programme. The topics for the session were fundamentals of Insurance, Taxation & Financial Planning, Product Presentation, Underwriting, Prospe-cting and Agency Career & Motivation. Participants werevery much enthusiastic as wasevident from their interaction withthe faculty.Their level ofsatisfaction was understood at thesight of queue to take membershipform of the Institute and request toconduct more such sessions in future.

❑❑❑❑❑ Agents’ Workshop: An IRDAAgents’ Workshop was conductedby the Institute at Ghatal Branch,outside Kolkata Metropolitan areaon 21st September’2003. SriSankar Das gave a live demon-stration about how to present aproduct attractively to prospectswith detailed analysis of a fewplans. Sri Aloke Dutta spoke onProspecting while Sri SudiptoSarkar spoke on Profile of LIC andfundamental linkage of variousdepartments in the Branch. In theconcluding part, Sri A.Patra gavean exceptional deliberation onMotivation. Participants numberedaround 60 were so charged thatalmost everyone committed tobring 3 proposals within 3 days as

August 2003 at DTC Hall, KMDO-I, was very lively with a goodnumber of participants, speakingboth for & against the motion givingvery strong, sustainable & thoughtprovoking points & counter points.The Judge cum Moderator, Sri A.K.Banerjee, Ex-Principal/EZTC,commented, “As a rule, one hasto be selected as the best and SriS.Mukhopadhyay, CBO-11 isselected for the motion and SriSurojit Das, CBO-17 against themotion. At the vale-dictory speechSri P.Bondapodhyay, CVO/NIChigh-lighted the prospects ofInsurance Pene-tration in India.

❑❑❑❑❑ Quiz: On the occasion of the 47thInsurance Week celebration, an‘Insurance Quiz Contest’ wasorganized on 3rd September, 2003at the Conference Hall of KMDO-I. There were altogether 8 groupshaving 3 members in each. SriManish Nahata was the QuizMaster. Prizes were given to thetop teams in the function held atthe Divisional Office by Sr. D.M.,Sri P.K.Karmakar.

❑❑❑❑❑ Publication of Plans at a Glance:This year, the Institute has broughtout a booklet titled “Plans at aGlance” containing salientfeatures of all the plans of LIC aswell as other private Insurers. Thebooklet was of immense help tothe new agents in getting familiarwith insurance products. Thebooklet received huge responsefrom the field force andappreciation from LIC/EZO.

❑❑❑❑❑ Liaison Persons Meet: The firstever liaison persons meet of theInstitute was held on 19th July 2003at Bharat Bhavan. The GeneralSecretary, Sri S. Das greeted theparticipating liaison persons fromall the four local divisions of LICand briefed them about the role ofdeputing liaison persons in Branch/Divisional Offices. Almost allparticipants interacted with – SriS. Sengupta and Sri P. Dutta, Joint

requested by the Dev.Officer. SriMondal, DO, also expressed hissatisfaction over the effectivenessof the programme and wished tohold such programme again in nearfuture. The role of Sri DipankarSasmal(Liaison Person, GhatalBranch) without whose initiativethe programme could not mate-rialize,was appreciated by all.

❑❑❑❑❑ How To Face Interview: The muchawaited popular programme “ Howto face Interview” for AAO aspir-ants of LIC-2003 was organized on26.07.2003 at the Zonal Confer-ence Hall. Sri K.B.Saha,RM(P&GS), Sri S.S.DasMahapatra, RM(Publicity)andMd.Azeezuddin, BDM/EZO, spokeon various aspects of interview andprovided tips to the aspirants to getthrough the interview process. Aset of practice Questionnaire com-piled by the Institute were distrib-uted among the participants to getpractice for the interview.

Secretaries of the Institute.Important points raised were –organizing agents training in morebranches to ensure more lifemembers, holding oral tuitionclasses in fixed schedule andconduct of classes in distantbranches also.

Seminar on Prospecting

An educational seminar on“Prospecting” was organized by theInstitute on 13.08 03 at State YouthCentre (Moulali). Sri Kallol Ghosh, anMDRT agent and an elegant orator,was the sole speaker on the topic. Thevenue being full to its capacity (about400). Sri Ghosh enthralled theaudience for almost two & half hoursspeaking on a subject that is popularalike among the field force.

The much awaited and a well furnishedlibrary was inaugurated on 5th Septem-ber, 2003 at the hands of Sri T.S.V.Subramaniam, Deputy Secretary ofIII/ Mumbai. Sri Subramaniam ex-pressed his satisfaction over the sys-tem of our library as well as over thestock of books.

❑❑❑❑❑ Annual Convocation: This year’sAnnual Convocation was held on29th November at the ConferenceHall of Eastern Zonal Office. Atthe focal point were SriT.K.Banerjee, member-IRDA as theChief Guest and Sri R.K. Misra,ZM, LIC- EZO. A host of otherdignitaries from LIC’s Zonal &Divisional Offices were alsopresent. According to the tradition,the convocation was inauguratedby lighting the lamp at the handsof Chief Guest Sri T.K.Banerjee. Hewas assisted by the otherdignatories present- Sri R.K.Misra,ZM/LIC, Sri D.Basu, President ofIII/Kolkata, Sri D.K.Mehrotra & SriS.K.Mitter, RM(Mktg)/LIC and SriP.Bondopadhyay, CVO/NIC. SriBanerjee shared his experience ofhis visit to a leading research

organization in the US engagedtotally in research activities. SriMisra,ZM/LIC who is also a chiefpatron of our Institute,congratulated all the Diploma &Prize recipients and urged them tocarry on their study in pursuit offurther excellence. Diplomaswere given out to Associates &Fellows. Prizes & certificates werealso awarded to students scoringhigh marks, rankers in differentcompetitions and participants indifferent training/workshops of theInstitute. Honorary Secretaryof the Institute extended welcome tothe participants and other guests.Topics covered in the programmewere on subject Born to win,Assertiveness and Communicationwith impact. The programme was wellsupported by faculty members ofUnited India Insurance Company,Sarvashri B.S.T. Shah, Divl. Manager,Chennai, N. Alagappan, Divl. Manager,Pondicherry and J. Ravindran, Asst.Manager, Chennai.

The meeting unanimously appointedShri Nagendra Kumar, A.O., L.I.C. ofIndia, B.O.-I, Raipur as the Auditor forthe Financial Year 2003-04.

The newly elected ExecutiveCommittee met on 3rd October, 2003and elected the following Office-bearers. Shri Siddharth Mohanty andShri Shailesh Gupta were co-opted tothe Body.

The Institute conducted on 19thDecember, 2003 a Guest LectureProgramme on the subjects,"Product Designing and KeyService Areas – Customer OrientedInitiatives". Dr. K. Ramamohan Rao,Professor, Andhra University,Visakhapatnam was the Chief Guest.The programme was presided over byShri S. Behera, Chairman, Visakha-patnam Insurance Institute andDivisional Manager of LIC of India.Smt. N. Devi, AAO, LIC of India,Visakhapatnam delivered a lecture on"Pension Business - Scanning thePotential and Suggested Schemes".The programme was well attended andreceived good appreciation.
