Japfa General Manager, Mr. Bambang is a 30 Year customer of Indian River. “"e establishment of a good relationship and !rm understanding between two companies, which often has its most value during hard times when solutions are di$cult to get but are most important, is critical in a long standing business association like ours,” he asserted at the recent Indian River Association meeting in Bali.

In 1997, at about the same time as the Ross® acquisition of Indian River, the joint impact of disease and the Asian !nancial crisis hit Indonesia and the poultry industry, placing an enormous burden on Japfa. Parent stock mortalities of 25-30% and broiler chick production down 60% initiated a request to Aviagen for immediate assistance in order to keep the company in operation. "e market was in disarray and Japfa also took the opportunity to change strategy and immediately sent 25% of the employees out to support the surrounding farmers.

"ere was little money in feed and chick sales, many were supplied free or at low cost to keep farmers going. "e assistance from Aviagen helped and by 2000 the feed and day old chick markets increased and returned to pro!tability. Since that period Japfa has changed as a company and today produces about 60% of the chicks for its own integrated business and 40% for external sales.

“"e strong relationship between Japfa and Indian River and the future look very bright,” added Mr. Bambang.

resilient broiler. "e broiler captures early growth, competitive feed conversion and good livability in both closed and open housing and has been catching the attention of customers of all sizes in many of the faster growing markets. Termed the ‘di#erence maker,’ Indian River is anticipated to perform well in Africa as demand continues to grow.
