Urban tele density stood at 139.42 percent and rural tele density is 42.43% as of March 2014 up from 111% and

21.2% respectively in 2009.

• To boost local research and manufacturing of telecom products, the government has proposed the investment of UD$ 32.2 billion during the 12th five year plan.

Rising Investments

• As part of the recent outsourcing trend operators have outsourced functions such as network maintenance, IT operations and Customer Service.

Outsourcing Non Core Activities

• 7.7 million mobile banking transactions in October 2013 were reported, a 7.1% growth month on month.

• Availability of affordable smartphones is expected to boost the growth of various transactions via mobile; M-Paisa in Vodafone, Airtel Money.

Over the top users on smartphones are expected to rise from 276.8 million in 2012 to 1.32 billion in 2016.

20% of global Smartphone users were actively using such services,

and this is predicted to reach 45% by 2016. Over-the-top users in 2012 accounted for 2% of the total global

mobile subscription base and are expected to increase to 18% in 2016.
