United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service Great Lakes Region IN-CW2315 Indiana Crop Weather June 8, 2015 Cool Temperatures Keep Fields Damp Cool weather and spotty rains throughout the week ending June 7 slowed crop growth, according to the USDA, NASS, Great Lakes Region. Most of the state received little rainfall, but the below average temperatures kept fields damp leading to delays. The northern region experienced mild temperatures, while the South had hot and humid days. There were 4.5 days available for fieldwork this week. Regionally, winter wheat was 87% headed in the North, 94% in Central and 94% in the South. By region, corn was 93% emerged in the North, 93% in Central, and 95% in the South. Soybeans emerged was 71% complete in the North, 70% in Central, and 69% in the South. Farmers were finishing up the spring planting season with the remaining soybeans, cucumbers, and tomato transplants. In Northern and Central Indiana, some corn and soybean plants turned yellow due to the soaked fields and poor spring planting conditions. Previously ponded areas dried enough to replant. Cool and cloudy conditions delayed hay cuttings, but did not affect growth. Livestock was reported to be in good condition. Other activities for the week included spraying fields, side dressing corn and wheat, hauling grain, and mowing roadsides.     Cool Temperatures Keep Fields Damp

    Cool weather and spotty rains throughout the week ending June 7

    slowed crop growth, according to the USDA, NASS, Great Lakes

    Region. Most of the state received little rainfall, but the below

    average temperatures kept fields damp leading to delays. The

    northern region experienced mild temperatures, while the South had

    hot and humid days. There were 4.5 days available for fieldwork this

    week.
