ABSTRACTThis report is aimed at explaining key areas of my industrial training undertaken in Ubungo plantII at Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (T!ESC"#$ IT gi%es a brief introduction about T!ESC"& as the main supplier of electricity in Tanzania$ It also gi%es a good presentation of the organizational structure and the interconnecti%ity of the %arious Engineering and Ser%ices 'epartments$Effort (as made to explain the role of the Electrical Engineering 'epartment& bearing in mind the %arious electrical facilities and rele%ant soft(are (hich are also used in oil and gas field$ de)uate co%erage has been gi%en to the operations and maintenance training I recei%ed& as (ell as the specific type of (ork I (as engaged in$CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTIONThe Engineering discipline is practical in nature and mainly hinged on experience$ *ence there isgreat need for any student aspiring to be a professional engineer to ha%esomeformof(orkexperience(hilestudyingatschool&ina engineering firm related to his+her course of study$Students industrial trainingis in accordance (ith the Tanzania Commission for Uni%ersities (TCU) policy of technical education to enable students to be exposed to the(orkingexperienceinindustriesandtoenablethemtobeusefultotheir employers practically and not theoretically alone$ I had my (ork experience at the Ubungo plant II& a subsidiary of Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (T!ESC"#$ t Ubungo plant II& I learnt the fundamentals of electrical engineering and transmission of gas through pipeline for domestic use such as electricity generation$ The Students Industrial training Scheme is aimed at gi%ing students the opportunity to ha%e (orkexperience and practically apply the theoretical concepts learnt in the Uni%ersity$ It is also aimed at (idening the mental and creati%e horizon of the students$,y day to day acti%ities at T!ESC" (ere recorded in the log book$CHAPTER TWO2.0 HISTORICAL BACKGROND OF THE COMPANYTanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (T!ESC"# is a parastatal organization under the ,inistry of Energy and ,inerals$ The Company generates& transmits& distributes and sells electricity to Tanzania ,ainland and sells bulk po(er to the -anzibar Electricity Corporation (-EC"# (hich in turn sells it to the public in islands. Ungu/a and 0emba$ T!ESC" o(ns mostof the electricity generating& transmitting and distributing facilities in Tanzania ,ainland& (hich has an estimated population of 12$3 million people by 4uly 3225 (6orld 7act 8ook#$The 9erman colonialists established the first public electricity supply in Tanzania ((hich (as then called Tanganyika# in :;25 at 'ar es Salaam$ It ser%ed the rail(ay (orkshops and a part of the to(n (here the colonialists (ere mostly staying$ 6hen the Tanganyika territory (as mandated to 9reat 8ritain in :;32& a 9o%ernment Electricity 'epartment (as formed to take o%er and operate the public supplies left by the 9ermans$In :;th !o%ember :;
