Our thermoset-based advanced composite prepregs are available in fabric and unidirectional tape form ranging from slit tapes for automated tape laying to 64 inch (163 mm) wide fabrics.

TenCate utilizes both film impregnation and direct impregna-tion to meet unique handling and processing requirements for each customer. We work with carbon, glass, quartz and aramid based reinforcements and a wide variety of proprietary resin systems ranging from low cost epoxies to high temperature BMIs.

Tooling

TenCate is a trusted name in tooling with the TenCate AmberTool™ brand of tooling prepregs. Composite tooling offers many benefits over metal tooling including similar CTE, lower cost, lower weight and ease in fabrication.

TenCate has a full line of tooling prepregs to fit your tooling needs, plus we are an exclusive distributor of 3M's innovative nano-silica matrix resin technology. Service, support, technology and selection, a winning combination!

Thermoplastic Prepreg Technology

TenCate is a global leader in the development and production of composite prepreg materials and laminates.

Our thermoplastic composite prepregs are available in several forms:

• Pre-consolidated and oriented stacked laminates of 1-25 plies (RTL - reinforced thermoplastic laminates)

• Fully impregnated unidirectional tapes based on standard or intermediate modulus carbon fiber or S-glass unitapes

• Fabric-based prepregs or semi-pregs

• In a variety of resin systems including Nylon, PC/ABS, HDPE, PMMA, PP, PET, PPS, PEEK and PEI

Bulk Molding Compounds

TenCate offers a full range of chopped fiber bulk molding compounds for use in compression molding. TenCate molding compounds utilize either thermoset matrix resins such as epoxy or cyanate esters, or thermoplastic matrix resins such as Nylon, PEEK or PPS. Typical chopped molding lengths are half to one inch (12 to 25mm).

Compression Molded Parts

TenCate offers vertically integrated tool design, prototyping, CAD/CAM and full production capabilities. Our process is suited for small, geometrically complex parts to large, con-toured structures up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) long. Our process is capable of producing parts with integrally stiffened ribs, molded-in inserts and special surfaces (such as conductive or insulative surfacing films).

TENCATE PERFORMANCE COMPOSITES Industrial Composites Selector Guide

Customers turn to TenCate to realize the many benefits that advanced composites offer:

• Weight reduction

• High strength and stiffness

• Corrosion resistance

• Excellent toughness and fatigue resistance

• Ease of fabrication via common molding processes

• Ability to optimize strength and stiffness

• Low flame, smoke and toxicity performance

Our materials support applications in a wide range of industries, including automotive, energy (oil and gas), electronics, recreational, marine, infrastructure, and others. Each industry’s needs are different, and each values a different set of performance attributes. Transportation

High volume manufacturing and weight reduction are two im-portant considerations for the automotive industry. The rapid stamping processes developed for use with thermoplastic composite materials lend themselves to these high volume needs. Continuous fiber reinforced materials offer equivalent strength and stiffness with lower weight when compared to injection molded parts and metallic parts.

Rapid cure, out-of-autoclave thermoset based prepregs are ideally suited for exterior surface panels. TenCate’s thermoplastics are ideally suited for load bearing beams, brackets and clips. Our materials also work in a variety of manufacturing processes, including continuous compression molding, automated tape placement, thermoforming, injection overmolding and stamping. Energy

Reduction of downtime and improving cycle time are critical in an industry where every minute counts. The use of corrosion resistant composite materials help reduce downtime. Rapid assembly methods, spoolable pipe, and use of lighter structures reduce the infrastructure costs associated with pipeline component replacement.

TenCate's products offer the combination of improved corrosion resistance, high strength and stiffness in a lighter weight.

Some oil and gas applications include:

• Wrapped pipe and tubing for increased strength, weight reduction and corrosion resistance

• Molded frac spheres

• Electrically pure dielectric structure and enclosures for down hole inspection and monitoring

• Carbon fiber reinforced tethers

• Composite pressure cylinders

• Drill plugs

TenCate's CCS division is a recognized leader in the design and production of high performance compression molded composite parts. CCS specializes in designing and producing parts that benefit the most from the properties of molding compounds, with a particular expertise on extremely high tolerance, geometrically complex parts.

Compression molding is a common alternative for complex structures typically made of aluminium or titanium. Typical reinforce-ments include carbon and glass chopped fiber, but other reinforcements are possible.

Compression molding is a highly controlled process using precise resin infused fiber reinforced tape made with standard, intermediate or high modulus fibers. Resins can be thermoset (BMI, cyanate ester, epoxy, etc.) or a thermoplastic (PEEK, PPS, PEI and Nylon) resin. Bulk molding compounds are made by chopping these unitapes into fiber lengths ranging from 1/8” to 1” (3 to 25 mm). Longer fiber lengths generally provide higher strengths, while smaller length fibers allow more complex structural details to be molded into the part.
