The Shoe Fin Project

Purpose: To study three-dimensional design through a step and repeat process

Description: In this individual project, we creat-ed our own tools that would measure the side of the shoe at a specific spaced interval. With more measurements came more precision. Each of the specific measurements were recorded on tracing paper, creating a “fin”. This shoe altogether had 25 fins.

The Module Project

Purpose: To create a module design out of a limited amount of Bristol board, and for it to be repeated multiple times to span an 8in x 8in cube on all four sides.

Description: As a small group project I worked closely with an other team member to come up with multiple design concepts.

The Wire and Clay Hand Project

Purpose: To study realism and the abstract structure of our hand.

Description: Using copper wire and solder in one and modeling clay in the other, we visually created our own hand.

PILL MINDER Collab 1

Research-~10 pills is the average daily consumption of people ages 65 and older

-~3 million seniors are admitted to nursing homes due to drug-related problems.

- 27 % of elderly patients at 15 days post-hospitalization had failed to fill their new prescriptions

- 31% - 64% of independent seniors have difficulty opening medication containers due to low manual dexterity

- 47 percent of seniors admitted to being unable to read or comprehend the labels on their medications

- Studies show that pharmacy delivery and refill reminders significantly reduced the number of adverse drug events as well as increased the compliance of patients.

Solution-Our solution is a reminder system that would alert the user with ring tone and a blinking light that it is time to take their medication.

-At that time the machine would dispense the pills into a cup that can be easily grabbed even by those suffering from arthritis.

-The machine would be refilled on a weekly basis by a pharmacist or nurse, who would also use that time to check up on the patient and answer any questions they have about their medications.

“Nursing interventions that assist older adults in managing their medications can help prevent unnecessary, costly nursing

home admissions, hospitalizations, and ED visits, as well as improve their quality of life” - NCBI Marek and Antle

Target GroupThis device is aimed towards people between the ages of 60 and 80 who want to live independently but may not have as good a memory as they used to.

Problem- Often seniors are put into nursing homes due to an inability to consistently take their medications. This problem can be easily fixed and allow seniors to prolong their independence.

The Nexus Maximus Challenge Purpose: To create a product or service that will help the elderly in any way.

Description: The Nexus Maximus Challenge was sponsored by Johnson and Johnson, in which they were searching innovative ideas to explore for elderly individuals. Each group, including mine, had up to five individuals who majored in many different studies (Physician Assistant, Industrial Design, Business, and many more major). In our project we created a pill device that would specifically dispense pills based on the time and day of the week. As each set of pills for the day is dispensed the individual would be alerted through the small device that is attached to them to take their pills.

The DaVinci Machine Project

Purpose: To create a functioning machine based on a DaVinci principles.

Description: This project had to be a machine that functioned around DaVinci principles. In a group of three including myself, we created a continual motioned machine that mimicked a rail tie being hammered in. As the individual turns the handle on the top of the machine the gears rotated and caused the two spindles on the bottom to rotate and the small wooden block in the center to rise. Once the small wooden black reached the top it would land directly on top of the two spindles. The entire machine also had to portray a piece of artwork that we picked out.

The CAD ProjectPurpose: To render a toy in SolidWorks.

Description: For this individual project I had to create a claw toy in SolidWorks. This included me taking apart the toy and measuring each part to individually create parts that would assemble into a claw toy.
