IntroductionIntroduction Clean Water Act was passed by

Congress in 1972 to restore and maintain the integrity of the nation’s waters.

Only 40 years ago – in my lifetime! The Act establishes regulations for

commercial and industrial process wastewaters.

Made it illegal to discharge to waters of the United States without a permit
