Why study Industrial Arts Metal?- Should consider this course if they are interested in gaining an

apprenticeship and pursuing a career in the metal trades –(e.g. welder, boiler maker, sheet metal worker, mechanic ) or mechanical / civil engineering courses at university.

- Who have completed Industrial Technology Metal or Graphics in year 9 and 10 will find this course easier than those without any metal workshop experience

- undertake work in four sections:0 Industry study (including excursion to Faircloth and Reynolds Pty Ltd) 0 Design and management 0 Workplace communication0 Industry-specific content and production.

You will: 

0 source, select and sequence information about issues in a selected industry, developing competence in collecting, analysing, and organising information

0 debate, describe, discuss and explain issues in written, graphic and oral form, developing competence in communicating ideas and information

0 develop competence in sketching, drawing and using computer aided drawing software

0 plan, prepare and present project work and planning folio to develop competence in planning and organising activities

0 cooperate with individuals and groups, developing competence in working with others and teams

0 design, implement and evaluate solutions to practical situations in metal industries, developing competence in solving problems

0 plan, develop and modify projects including costing, quantities, measurement and time, developing competence in using mathematical ideas and techniques

0 experiment with and prepare practical projects using appropriate materials and equipment, developing competence and practical skills in using technology

0 demonstrate proficiency in the use of safe working practices and workshop equipment maintenance techniques

Projects constructed in the workshop in year 11 include –

 0 Dust pan – using sheet metal

0 Centre Punch or Cold Chisel – using the Lathe and heat treatment equipment

0 Sliding Clamp – Using the Lathe, MIG welder and Arc Welder

0 Sticky Tape Holder – using oxy-acetylene equipment

0 Subject Fees = $75 (includes student workbook)
