INDUSTRY SOLUTION

TELECOMMUNICATION SERVICES INTEGRATION

In the telecommunications industry, a company’s ability to respond to new business opportunities and customer needs defines its potential for growth and profitability. As the wireless market becomes increasingly competitive, more and more companies are seeking ways to become more responsive while maintaining efficient business processes and reducing costs.

By changing its integration strategy, the company noticed that redundant applications and complex point-to-point connections were creating information gridlock, and developers were spending most of their time managing interactions among applications instead of developing new business functionality. Accessing complete customer profiles and contact histories proved difficult, so you can eliminate some of the manual processes and multiple customer data stores that hindered the company from responding to customer needs as quickly as possible.

TELECOMMUNICATION INDUSTRY IT CHALLENGE

Myths endorsed by current process-driven Integration solutions

Reality: The Message-Driven ESB Effect

Adding a new service takes 2-4 weeks Zero-latency service modifications enabled by re-usability of message-driven Services

‘Certified Delivery’ of messages consumes valuable networking bandwidth

Peer-to-peer data transport obviates any penalties of networking bandwidth

Process changes necessitate service downtime and hence lost productivity

Dynamic service replacements without downtimes – no productivity disruptions

typically tied to particular platforms - Java or Microsoft’s .NET

Standards-based, interoperable with either Java or .NET platforms

Expensive solutions, often over $1,000,000

Equivalent benefits at a fractional cost, typically less than $200,000

MESSAGE-DRIVEN SOA

INTEGRATION ARCHITECTURE

SCENARIO (1) WORKFLOW

LOGIN TO AUTHENTICATION

User will enter Username and Password in the login form, which will be authenticated using Fiorano SOA Platform

If the user is authenticated, he is taken to appropriate ASP page where he/she can further take part in the workflow. Else, a web page showing Authentication failure is displayed.

The user authenticated in earlier steps can access the Web page to create a Purchase Order or Purchase Requisition.

The information from the Web pages to create PR is passed to different tables in MS SQL database (of GMIS).

This information is used in the next step to create a PR in SAP System using Control Broker.

PR CREATION FROM WEBPAGE TO SAP

PR RELEASE STATUS

Lotus Noted updated with PO number Purchase requisition and release status

STATUS UPDATED IN MS SQL

PR status updated in SAP, MS SQL

TRANSFER OF INFORMATION

Transfer of information for Request for Mail Transfer from GMIS System(for a chosen PO) to Fiorano SOA Platform.

Sending a Mail to a Lotus Notes User.

SCENARIO (2) WORKFLOW

Creation and approval of invoice and update in SAP Display invoice from SAP when needed

BENEFITS WITH FIORANO SOA PLATFORM

Faster time to market - With reuse of services and components, new applications can be quickly assembled to respond to changing market conditions or business demand.

Operational efficiencies - SOA virtually eliminates these inter-application complexity barriers. It allows IT to more rapidly change to the needs of the business so that IT can create a culture and an infrastructure of business adaptability.

Faster, less expensive application integration and B2B integration - An SOA framework provides native support for runtime deployment of services across the network and it dramatically reduces the overall costs of application integration and deployment by automating these time-consuming processes. It also allows extension of integration across business boundaries.

Easier application development and deployment - The implementation-level services can run on any machine across the network by virtue of the built-in dynamic deployment support SOA provides. The combination of service-oriented tools for both design time and runtime dramatically reduces the time to implement and deliver working processes.

Leverage existing investments - Exposing legacy systems as services also creates an environment that shares information and processes from systems that were previously isolated or integrated via point solutions.

Risk mitigation - Risk management is improved from an organizational perspective with this separation of skills that enables effective allocation of resources to efficiently deliver development tasks.

Continuous improvement - The implementation of services and interfaces is encapsulated? and invisible to the requestor. This abstraction of the underlying implementation provides an opportunity for continually improving and optimizing the underlying code base without affecting the use of the service.

Increased user acceptance - This is due to the consistent look and feel among various Web services.

Fewer support calls - This is due to the fact that the enhanced, consistent services user interface is easier to understand than the potentially dozens of other applications a user might need to know to perform equivalent tasks.

BENEFITS WITH FIORANO SOA PLATFORM

Improved ROI for the overall enterprise - via 1) less duplication of functionality than typically exists in the usual collection of diverse systems in an enterprise; 2) offloading to industry-standard servers the hosting of its portal and Web services activities, typically performed by a high-cost infrastructure, has improved performance and reduced hardware costs; and better use of developers, who no longer require training on proprietary tools and APIs and can readily transfer to other projects.
