AB-Bilgi objectives✓ Six main concepts to take into account:1)Informing: local journalist need the information about EU policies to disseminate it

2)Training: Offering some tools to local journalists to understand how people could access and manage their own initiatives using EU funds

EU and Turkey relationsArticle 7bis - Treaty of Lisbon

1.   The Union shall develop a special relationship with neighbouring countries, aiming to establish an area of prosperity and good neighbourliness, founded on the values of the Union and characterised by close and peaceful relations based on cooperation.

2.   For the purposes of paragraph 1, the Union may conclude specific agreements with the countries concerned. These agreements may contain reciprocal rights and obligations as well as the possibility of undertaking activities jointly. Their implementation shall be the subject of periodic consultation.

- The first chapter to be negotiated, Chapter 25 - Science and Research, was opened and closed on 12th June 2006.

-In 2006, the EU expressed concern over restrictions to the free movement of goods, including restrictions on means of transport to which Turkey had committed by signing the Additional Protocol to the Ankara Agreement.

- With no solution found, the European Council decided on December’06 to suspend negotiations on eight chapters relevant to Turkey's restrictions with regard to the Republic of Cyprus:

- It was also decided that no chapter would be provisionally closed until Turkey fulfils its commitments under the additional protocol to the EU-Turkey association agreement

- The process of negotiations did not was blocked. To date, 14 chapters have been under negotiations.

EU: Programmes, Calls & Funds

Programme: It’s a framework or a global document where the EU institutions reflect their intentions for Europe and its citizens.

Programmes are multiannual documents which serve to focus and to guide the EU policies in one direction. People who would like to participate on EU funds have to follow the criteria highlighted in these documents.

EU Programmes, Calls & Funds- Calls: associated/linked with the some specific

program it is a document published from the programs management team in order to open the period to submit the project proposal for evaluation and funding.

- Usually: there is one call per year but, sometimes is possible to find the same call open twice/year or even more.

There is a specific call for a specific program

Ex.: LIFE+ or Erasmus +

EU Programmes, Calls & Funds- Funds: EU has different levels of funds and they could

appear from very different ways. Not always people like us will can ask for this funds.

- Sometimes will be our national Governments who are managing directly these Funds after a period of negotiation with the European Union

- Important to distinguish between: Structural Funds and Direct Funds

EU Programmes, Calls & Funds

- Structural Funds: EU investment on big infrastructures through, usually, the national, regional or local governments. Population can’t access to these funds in not so much situations. Ex. INTERREG

- Direct Funds: direct lines of grants that EU offers to the civilian entities which must be managed directly by them on the European Commission supervision. One call + One Submission Period = Approved or Rejected Proposal
