Sustaining Techniques In Conversation

• Accepting criticism: Don't let it become an argument.

• Balanced conversation: Give and take in good measure.

• Enthusiasm for the subject: Infect them with your passion.

• Linking: Connect what is said to other things.

Also remember that the most powerful way of keeping a conversation going is simply to ask questions that the other person is interested in answering, and then doing a great deal of listening.

Polite Words

Look Some Polite Invitations

• Are you busy /free on……..• Shall I bring a bottle• What are you doing on……•I would very much like it if you could come along• Would you like……..

(...a chocolate bar?)

(...to come to my house for dinner?)

• I wondered / was wondering…..(...if you'd like to come to my house for dinner)

Two words of caution

“My Bad” and “I’m Sorry” are two words that could mean apologies or my mistake.

Polite words will take you farther than smarts, and will certainly get you farther than the smart-aleck. Polite words are better than the finest clothes and the most expensive car.
