• Awards are open to City of Greater Bendigo residents aged 25 years and under on May 9, 2019 (the date of the Awards Presentation).

• You may enter more than one category, but you can submit only one entry per category

• The awards will be judged by arts professionals and their decision is final – no correspondence will be entered into

P L E A S E N O T E

You must follow all guidelines. With around 100 entries each year, these guidelines are necessary to fairly present and judge all the work received.

Work that does not meet the guidelines may not be included in the judging or presentation.

RAW is first and foremost a celebration of youth art and imagination and the prizes awarded should be seen as a part of this celebration. Criteria for selection is included in the category guidelines, and we ask all participants to remember that the judges’ decision is subjective and does not enhance or diminish the inherent quality of the art and the artists.

A W A R D S A N N O U N C E M E N T

The awards announcement is at The Capital Theatre, Thursday May 9, 2019 at 6pm.

After the announcement there will be a showcase featuring entries in the Performing Arts and Digital Media categories and the RAW Arts Exhibition will be open in Dudley House until Sunday May 12. Literature entries will be available on the night, and selected entries will be included in the next edition of Ambedo magazine.

The City of Greater Bendigo is committed to fostering the talents and artistic pursuits of young people in the region. This commitment is supported through the presentation of the RAW Arts Awards.

The awards are presented across four categories: Visual Arts, Digital Media, Literature and Performing Arts.

In each category there are two prizes ($1,000 for the winner and $250 highly commended) as well as the opportunity to present your work as part of an exhibition and showcase.

V I S U A L A R T S

Includes: Painting, drawing, print making, sculpture, photography (including digital photography and digitally edited photography), mixed media and multimedia.

Your entry: Must be presented ready to go on display. For 2D work (drawing/painting/photography etc.) it’s best if work has a wire or string securely strung across the back. If you are using a single hook it must be at least 10mm wide at the top.

If we cannot hang your work it may not be included in the exhibition/awards.

For anything else (e.g. sculpture or other 3D work) get in touch with us to talk about what you will need.

The judges are looking for work that excites and inspires, and shows technical proficiency appropriate to the message of the work.

Workshop: YoBendigo is running a workshop ‘Preparing your art for exhibition’ a few weeks before the RAW Arts Awards. Information can be found on the RAW Arts website with some spots set aside for RAW artists.

D I G I T A L M E D I A

Includes: All digital media formats will be accepted including short film and animation (digital photography or digitally altered still images should be entered in Visual Arts.)

Your entry: A clearly labelled thumb drive is best, or via online transfer such as www.dropbox.com

There is no duration limit for your submission.

Your film must be suitable for screening up to PG classification (see www.classification.gov.au/Guidelines).

The entry must not infringe copyright (including the soundtrack) or defamation laws.

While most films are ‘group efforts’ you will need to submit the entry under one person’s name.

The judges are looking for work that excites and inspires, and shows technical proficiency appropriate to the message of the work.

L I T E R A T U R E

Includes: All genres including poetry, fiction and non-fiction.

Word limit: 2,000 words.

Your entry: Email (Word or PDF) or deliver or post a hard copy to The Capital, 50 View Street, Bendigo VIC 3550.

The judges are looking for work that excites and inspires, and shows technical proficiency appropriate to the message of the work.

P E R F O R M I N G A R T S

Includes: Music, dance, drama, etc. and includes people who work behind the scenes.

Criteria for selection: The scholarship is awarded to an artist who shows exceptional talent in their chosen field and demonstrates a strong desire to continue in this field.

The Performing Arts category is not judged on a single performance, but seeks to reward a young performing artist who combines skill with a passion to take their art further.

Your entry: Applicants must include a letter (maximum of two pages):

• addressing the criteria for selection and;

• showing how funds will be spent to support your training (e.g. attending workshops or other study, purchase of equipment, participation in events)

Support material: Up to six pages: may include letters of support, publicity or programs, examiner’s report (two maximum).

Applicants are encouraged to provide examples of their performances. A clearly labelled thumb drive is best, or via online transfer such as www.dropbox.com. Examples are to be a maximum of 5 minutes. If it’s a long recording, indicate where your best five minutes start.

On Thursday May 9, The Capital Theatre and Dudley House will host the RAW Arts Showcase, a celebration of the work that has been submitted to the 2019 RAW Arts Awards.

The Showcase will include the Visual Art exhibition, Performing Arts on stage and screening of Digital Media entries. Literature entries will also be available to read on the night or taken home.

The celebration will start in The Capital Theatre at 6pm with the Announcement of the 2019 RAW Arts Awards and will conclude around 8pm.

This will be a free event and all applicants, family, friends and other supporters are invited to this celebration of youth arts.

The RAW Arts Exhibition in Dudley House will be open:

• Thursday, 6:30pm-8:00pm

• Friday and Saturday, 11:00am-3:00pm

• All entries submitted for the RAW Arts Awards will be considered for inclusion, subject to selection, availability of space and technical requirements

• Performing Arts applicants will be notified if selected for inclusion – all reasonable effort will be made to provide appropriate resources for performance

• Performing Arts applicants will be assessed as per the guidelines and not on their performance at the RAW Showcase. If applicants for the Performing Arts section are not available for the RAW Showcase this does not exclude them from entering the RAW Arts Awards

• This is an All-Ages event. The RAW Showcase will be drug and alcohol free
