Environmental UpdateAgriculture UpdateAgriculture VictoriaEarly in the year Agriculture Victoria staff held a number of field days and provided resources to assist landholders to manage their property following the bushfire. This provided landholders with knowledge that would assist them through the following months and even years.

The seasonal conditions we are experiencing, especially the heavy rainfall can have a significant impact on landscapes where fire has occurred. Landholders may now be noticing changes in their property and feel the need to seek new or further advice.

Agriculture Victoria staff can assist with advice on the management of gully erosion, through to topics from farm planning through to pasture recovery. If you need any advice on land management issues or production and not sure where to begin contact Kylie Macreadie at Agriculture Victoria on 02 6043 7900.

Agriculture Victoria information and useful tips on pasture recovery, gully erosion, weed control and dam management can be accessed at agriculture.vic.gov.au, and through www.indigoshire.vic.gov.au/recover.

Single wire earth return and 22kV powerlines maintained by the electricity distributors.

Private overhead electric lines, maintained by individual owners on private properties.

What are they being replaced with?

Insulated overhead powerlines; or Underground powerlines; or New conductor technologies

For further information on eligibility and registration visit www.energyandresources.vic.gov.au, www.indigoshire.vic.gov.au/recover, or contact Karen van Huizen on 0437 691 966 or [email protected].

Community Recovery CommitteeThis month the Bushfire Recovery Committee has been discussing the creation of a phone tree system to improve communication, how to address some of the issues raised at the Community debrief, and preparation for the next fire season.

Recovery fundingRegional Development Victoria has designated approximately $35,000 in funding to support the recovery process for the Barnawartha Indigo Valley bushfire region. The application has received very positive feedback. We will have a definite answer in the coming weeks.

Indigo Valley Crafty CraftersThe Crafty Crafters of Indigo Valley meet at the CFA Fire Station on the fourth Tuesday of the month. This is an evening for everyone to get together work on a project and catch up in a relaxed atmosphere. Projects have been varied from teddy bear making, quilting, puzzles, chocolate making and colouring.A lovely evening with smaller attendance due to the rain. Ali’s scarf is now one hand high (horse language), Daisy’s rug is now finished so she is onto making matching cushions.Next Craft night will be 23 August 2016, 7pm to 9pm. All welcome. Bring along your project. A small donation of $2 is appreciated.
