What is it? An add on programme where you study two modules namely

Enterprise Education and The world of Work. It aims to prepare young people for both.

How do I get it? By having the correct combination of subjects

Why is it a good idea? If you do any ordinary level subjects it is very useful for points It is common level It is assessed completely before the LC 60% portfolio including items like CV, Career Investigation etc

Choosing Leaving Certificate Subjects

It is important to realise that choosing your subject options for the Leaving Certificate is different from choosing your career.

For example you don't have to do any

business subject to become an accountant…. But it would be very helpful

you don’t have to do Engineering in the Leaving Certificate to become an engineer but it may be helpful. However Honours Maths and Physics are very helpful. (and often essential)

A Pass in a European Language is required for entry to most courses in NUI colleges e.g. UCC, UCD, NUIM, NUIG, RCSI,NCAD, St. Angela’s Sligo, Shannon College of Hotel Management, Milltown Institute, Institute of Public Administration – the main exceptions are

(a) NCAD which will accept Art instead of a language (b) Some Science, Nursing and Engineering courses

UL, Trinity, DCU, DIT and all Institutes of Technology either Engish and Maths OR English, Maths and ANOTHER language which can be Irish Irish Exemptions carry through if OFFICAL exemptions Gardaí, Army cadetships, Primary Teaching exemptions do not

apply

NUI Colleges

For entry to all degrees, English, Irish, and four other subjects in the Leaving Certificate (GCE/GCSE or other acceptable qualification) are required.

A third language must be included among the other subjects for Arts, Human Sciences, Law, Social Science, Commerce, Medicine and Health Sciences and some other degrees.

For Commerce the subjects presented must include Mathematics, and for courses in the Sciences (i.e. Science and also Agriculture, Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Veterinary Medicine) Mathematics and a Science subject.
