We are a small, state-integrated, semi-rural school catering for Yr1-8 students who come from a diverse range of Christian families and churches. We are situated in a beautiful rural location just east of Motueka. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, visionary educational practitioner to have a real impact on the lives of children (and parents!) for many years. The Board of Trustees is looking to appoint a fixed term teacher to start in Term 1, 2018 who:

Has teaching experience within the New Zealand educational context Is an enthusiastic Christian committed to involvement in a local church Has strong relational management skills and is able to consistently act in a professional

manner Is able to proactively represent and promote the school in the local community Can help us achieve our vision of providing a high quality, distinctively Christian education

For more information about our school and the position being offered, please contact our Board Chair via email: [email protected] or visit the school website: www.tasbaychristian.school.nz, where you can also download a full Application Pack. Applications must be submitted by 3pm, 29 September 2017.

About Our SchoolWe currently have three modern classrooms and a library, three teachers (including the principal), two teacher aides, a secretary, and other support people. We have historically been a U2 school, with our roll varying between 55-75, however our current roll sits at 51 children.

We “teach Christianly,” which means that we integrate Christian beliefs, values and standards into every aspect of our school life. We use the New Zealand Curriculum to deliver a high quality education from a Biblical perspective and undertake not to compromise our Christian beliefs in the process. We strive to help students integrate the Christian faith with their wider education so they can go into the world as good ambassadors of Christ.

We provide free bus transport from the Motueka, Moutere, and Mapua areas, so children can get safely to and from school each day. In addition to the school facilities, we also have access to a large church facility next door to the school for larger “whole school” indoor activities.

Appendix 1: Tasman Bay Christian School Statement of Faith

Our Core Beliefs (Central to Evangelical Christianity)

The BibleWe believe that the Bible is inspired by God and is therefore our supreme, infallible and final authority in all matters of faith and practise to which it speaks.

GodWe believe in one perfect, infinite, holy and loving God, creator of all things, eternally existent in three co-equal Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to whom equal honour is due.

The FatherWe believe that the Father is eternal and personal, and that he is the Father of our Lord Jesus and of all who believe in Christ.

The SonWe believe that Jesus Christ is God’s one and only Son, that he was born of a virgin, led a sinless life, died a sacrificial death for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and that he will personally return to the earth.

The Holy SpiritWe believe that the Holy Spirit makes people aware of their need for Jesus Christ, performs the miracle of new birth, and comes to live in every Christian the moment they trust in Jesus Christ.

PeopleWe believe that people are created in the image of God. However, all of us are marred by sin, which alienates us from God, makes us liable for His judgement, and ultimately results in eternal death apart from God’s salvation.

SalvationWe believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone, is offered freely to the whole human race, but is experienced only by those who trust in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christian LivingWe believe that everyone who places their faith and trust in Jesus Christ is spiritually reborn, and this results in, and is made evident by, holiness of life and good works.

Appendix 2: Our Special Character

Tasman Bay Christian School seeks to serve the school’s families, the church and the wider world by challenging young people to respond to the Christian faith, integrate their faith with learning and go out into the wider world as well equipped ambassadors for Christ. Theologically, pupils are taught within the framework of orthodox evangelical Christian belief.1

TeachersTeachers must believe and teach in accordance with the school’s Special Character. All permanent teaching staff (including Principal Relief), teacher aides and long term relievers must teach and believe the core evangelical truths described in the school charter for the length of their tenure at Tasman Bay Christian School.

Teachers are to work as a cohesive team. Therefore, all teachers are expected to contribute to the goals and objectives of the school, and wherever possible, do so in accordance with their individual strengths and gifting.

Teachers are also role models. Therefore, the school community rightly expects teachers to act, both inside and outside the school environment, so as to be appropriate Christian models for its children.

Educating “Christianly”We use the New Zealand Curriculum to deliver a high quality education from a Biblical perspective. All subjects are taught for their own value and with their own objectives. We believe in the value of all human knowledge, since “all truth is God’s truth.”

Because we come from a broadly evangelical perspective, the school does not emphasise secondary matters of theology about which individual churches have differing perspectives. We also respect the right of parents to ultimately decide what level of interaction their children have with activities considered to be of a sensitive nature (e.g. sex education). This respect of parental views also extends to activities outside the classroom (e.g. cultural events, the arts).
