What is a Layer in a map?

A map layer in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) contains groups of point, line, or area (polygon) features representing a particular class or type of real-world entities such as customers, streets, or postal codes. A layer contains both the visual representation of each feature and data.

Maps in a Geographic Information System are made by combining multiple layers.

The WVSOM Campus Map has the following points and layers that can be toggled on or off with the checkbox in the legend.

Click a point for more information, such as directions, or click the name in the legend on the left hand side.

On the bottom of the legend you can change the base map from street map to the google satellite view.

Campus Road: This is a road on campus which is not displayed on Google maps but is included in this custom layer of the WVSOM Campus map.

Campus Footprint: This is a shade layer that shows the campus as a whole*

• *If the Campus Footprint layer is turned on you will have to turn off the layer to access some points on the map.

Main building: The main building is divided into sections.

• This layer shows the different sections A, B, and C in the Main building and where they are located.

Helpful Facts • A CPR mask is located inside of each AED cabinet. • A first aid cabinet is located beside of each AED cabinet. • AED (Automated External Defibrillator) • AEDs are updated as AHA changes protocol • AEDs are checked monthly to make sure they are in good working order and batteries and pads are not expired
