Sex and Relationship Education

What the law says…

Governing Bodies and Headteachers must decide whether SRE, apart from that taught as part of the Science Curriculum, should be included in the school’s curriculumWhat it should consist ofAnd how should it be organised

A written record of decisions should be kept

Parents should be consulted about programmes

Governors must have a written statement of whatever policy they adopt

The SRE programme is to be embedded in Personal, Social, Heath and Economic (PSHE) education

Pupils are actively encouraged to develop loving and caring relationships

Parents have a right to withdraw their children from all or part of SRE

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship, as well as Sex and Relationship Education(SRE)

are all underpinned by a theology of relationship and all are encompassed in the title

‘Education for Personal relationships’ (EPR)

We believe in the unique dignity of the human person. Our approach to SRE is rooted in the Catholic Church’s teaching of the human person... Which must be presented positively and

prudently

Stemming from this we seek to educate the whole child:

Spiritually, intellectually, morally, emotionally, and physically towards maturity.

All sex and relationship education will be in accordance with the Church’s moral teaching.

Marriage is emphasisedSo is the Family

BUT

All children have a right to have their life protected whatever household they come from. Help will be given

to help pupils deal with different sets of values.

So A Journey in Love is recommended to you. It focuses on the belief we are made in Gods image and likeness and as a consequence, gender and sexuality are God’s gift to us.

An aspect of the mystery of God’s love is treated in each year group.

Children are encouraged to marvel at the wonder and beauty of God’s creative love.

This is reflected through a series of suggested, progressive and developmental tasks, activities and reflections.
