The FMA Informative was honored to be invited to the 3rd Filipino Martial Arts Hall of Fame. The 4 days of activities were nothing but professionally put together by Punong Guro Garitony ‘Pet’ Nicolas and Mr. Jayson Vincente. The event which was held in Baguio conjures, for both the international and domestic traveler, a high-land retreat in the Grand Cordillera in Northern Luzon, with pine trees, crisp cold breezes and low verdant knolls and hillocks. Through the numerous decades Baguio has morphed from what was once a grassy marsh-land into one of the cleanest and greenest, most highly urbanized cities in the country. It has made its mark as a premiere tourist destination in the Northern part of the Philippines with its cool climate, foggy hills, panoram-ic views and lovely flowers. Although a taking some time to get to Baguio from Manila either by auto or bus which is about a 6 hour ride, it is well worth the time to travel there. On April 17th the seminars were great with practitioners from all over the world sharing their knowledge and skills. The FMA Informative representative was surprised when asked to join in and share his knowledge. But as said before this was an event that would be hard to top anywhere in the world with the top professional teachers that taught their art. The 18th and 19th was a 2 day tournament event. The first day was anyo’s and the Sinawali competi-tions. The anyo competition was entertaining with individual and teams showing their skills. The FMA Informa-tive was unable to get the results for the Sinawali competition but it was a sight to see. On the second day was the labanan competition, each individual giving their best to capture the gold. Starting at 8 am and not ending at l1 pm was an exhausting day. It just might have gone a bit quicker if they would have had more than one ring, makes for a long day. Mr. Vincente did an excellent job in running a smooth professional tournament. Unfortunately the FMA Informative was told that an organization was to take the action pictures, which have been unobtainable. The last day the 20th was a more relaxing day for a little sightseeing, however some delegates of the Hall of Fame paid a visit to the Mayor of Baguio in the late afternoon, receiving the key to the city. The actual Hall of Fame was excellently done, everything ran smoothly and professionally and the atmo-sphere was electric with the activities that went on. Well-deserved awards were presented to practitioners and others that were deserved and due to show the hard work, pride, and professionalism that the awardee was being recognized for. I believe the FMA Informative can say for all the participants and guests that Punong Guro Garitony ‘Pet’ Nicolas and Mr. Jayson Vincente, and their assistants did a great job putting the 4 day event together and it ran smoothly, of course I would think they are wiping their brow at this time and saying glad that it is over for the work they and their assistants put into the event was superb, and they can be proud to know that this the 3rd Filipino Martial Arts Hall of Fame will be talked about and remembered for a very long time.

It must also be noted that some of the pictures for the Hall of Fame were provided by Rei Salaknib Samson and Joanne Ekid Samson. The FMA Informative thank them very much, since the FMA Informative representative ran out of the Ever Ready (Never Ready) batteries. Went through 3 sets, very undependable.

Tournament (Anyo / Labanan) April 18-19, 2015 Convention Center Military Cut-off Baguio, Benguet, Philippines

The Baguio Convention Center is reputed to be the most modern and most spacious facility of its kind north of Metro Manila. It is often used for conventions, programs, conferences, graduations, and other types of indoor gatherings or activities requiring a large seating capacity. This imposing Center is located in the southern part of the city and is within short walking distance from the Baguio Tourism complex and the Baguio campus of the University of the Philippines which is just across the street. The Center, which was designed with an Igorot motif, initially gained international prominence when it became the venue of the 1978 World Chess Championship series between two Russian grandmasters - Anato-ly Karpov and Victor Korchnoi. It was inaugurated by President Ferdinand E. Marcos during the opening of this championship match on July 17, 1978. At one time the facility was used by The Philippine Military Academy for their graduation ceremonies as well as for the 100th Nite Show of the dialectic society of the Cadet Corps. There are other schools, colleges and universities in Baguio that hold their graduation at the convention center. It is likewise a choiced site of different groups and organizations who come up to Baguio City for their annual conventions and general assem-blies.
