The FMA Informative brought you a little about the initial training of the MMDA Traffic Enforcers Training in issue #37 and in issue #38 about Johnny Thompson – Elvis Impersonator, who also taught at MMDA. This issue of the FMA Informative is on the last day of MMDA Traffic Enforcers Training and Gradua-tion. The training of the 1800 MMDA Constables started last September 7 - October 5, 2012 in self-defense. There were 3 days of training in every batch: 1st day - Arnis Defense, 2nd day - Knife Defense and the 3rd day Empty Hand (Man-Mano) Self-Defense held at MMDA Command Center Orense Street, Guadalupe Makati, Philippines. The MMDA training was headed by the Chairman Hon. Francis Tolentino, Attorney Carlos and Capt Victor Baroga. All in all this was an excellent opportunity for the constables to get trained by professionals in the mar-tial arts. And for the martial arts community to interact and help in passing along knowledge and skills which the constables are going to be able to use not only on the job, but throughout life. Punong Lakan Garitony C. Nicolas and the MAMMFMA practitioners and all the scheduled instructors and guest did a fantastic job. Now, understand the initial training has been completed, however training will be continuous through the MMDA Arnis Club that is located on sight and refresher training is also mandatory.

MMDA Traffic Enforcers TrainingOn September 7, 2012 Punong Lakan Garitony Nicolas head of the Organization Modern Arnis Mano-Mano Filipino Martial Arts (MAMMFMA) commenced a 3 part training curriculum for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Traffic Enforc-ers. The Modern Arnis Mano-Mano Filipino Martial Arts is the official group (under contract) to give this training to all the MMDA Traffic Enforcers, however Punong Lakan Nicolas invited many in-structors during the training cycles to share their knowledge.

The training program for the MMDA Traffic Enforcers a total of 1800 officers ended up being scheduled for this training program. The training consisted of 2 hours per batch from 8-10am, 10-12am, 1-3pm and 3-5pm. Once completed the of-ficers will continue with refresher training at the MMDA building which a gym has been set up called the MMA Arnis Club. This is a continuous re-quirement for the Traffic Enforc-ers, not a short term program. The program taught the staff, employees, their children.

MAMMFMA will be having self defense classes for women, Arnis kids training, demonstrations, exhi-bitions, etc… This program was set up for the MMDA Traffic Enforcers self preservation, discipline and to promote the art of Arnis. All parts are the combative side of the art but in a Filipino martial arts way of teaching. The MAMMFMA teach-es the basic strikes, how to block, offense and defense and all so for coordination and mind develop-ment some sparring.

The program was set up in 3 parts:1st is stick fighting - what is taught to them is number one is to respect the stick and awareness that the Arnis is our national martial art and sport of the Philippines. We also give them the proper holding of the Arnis stick, basic strike, blocks, counter attacks, disarming and some sparring techniques.2nd is Knife Fighting - what is taught to them is that when learning knife defense it is the preservation of life. If they disarm the opponent they must not stab their aggressor or if the aggressor runs they can catch them but they can’t kill them. It is always said that learning this defense is always to save you. They are taught the four basic strikes of the knife. Left shoulder thrust, right shoulder thrust, stomach thrust and over head attacks. Once learned then they are taught how to defend using Mano-Mano against knife or knife against knife.3rd is Mano-Mano (Empty Hand Fighting) - the traffic enforcer students are always told that Mano-Mano is the hidden art of Arnis. They are shown demonstration on how to apply the Arnis to Mano-Mano. The traffic enforcer students are shown the basic punches, strikes, block and kicks, and the usage of each in different situa-tions. Also taught are the proper take downs and locking techniques. All parts are the combative side of the art but in a Filipino martial arts way of teaching. The MAMMF-MA teaches the basic strikes, how to block, offense and defense and all to develop and coordinate the body and mind and then some sparring for realistic practice.

Before the Final Day Though the final day of training for the MMDA Traffic Enforcer was on October 5, 2012, the FMA In-formative would like to note a few other instructors that shared their knowledge and skills in the program.
