IMPORTANT 2017 DATES
God's Valentine Gift
God's Valentine gift of love to us Was not a bunch of flowers;
It wasn't candy, or a book To while away the hours.
His gift was to become a man, So He could freely give
His sacrificial love for us,
So you and I could live.
He gave us sweet salvation, and Instruction, good and true--
To love our friends and enemies And love our Saviour, too.
So as we give our Valentines, Let's thank our Lord and King; The reason we have love to give
Is that He gave everything.

Service is a good value for us to reflect on this week. I shared
with students on Monday at chapel, the 10 Lutheran school
values that all Lutheran schools work towards and discussed
what it meant to be of service to others. It is not an easy
value to explain to young people and sometimes it can be
difficult for adults as well. There is more than one way of
defining service. The one I was sharing with students was the
service we give each other freely. It is often the little things that happen in our day to day
lives that show we are of service to others. Students talked about helping each other or doing
something for someone else just because they needed that help and not expecting anything
in return. The reality is, that we know if we give freely to others we do get much in return. That
feeling of knowing you have helped someone, the feeling that you have been useful or the
feeling that someone feels better because you have been able to be of service to them,
gives us much in return and our emotional wellbeing certainly grows. I pray that we all can be
of service to someone around us this week. I pray there is an opportunity for each of us to
serve others without expecting anything in return.
Thank you
Thank you to the Prior Family of Kapunda. Prior’s Automotive have allowed us to leave our bus
at their business site each evening so that we can continue to provide a safe and efficient bus
run from Kapunda to St John’s each day.
Installation/Rededication Service and Bible Presentation
On Sunday 26 February Pastor Josh will lead the St John’s service where our staff and School
Council Members for 2017 will be installed. We will also be presenting bibles to students during
this service.
All new Foundation students will receive a picture bible and Year Three students will receive a
student bible. St John’s School is very grateful for such a generous gift and I know that our
students will be very excited at the prospect of having their own bibles to refer to and use in
class. This is a special school event and all students are expected to attend. A letter has been
sent out today to families with children in Foundation and Year Three. Please return the slip at
the bottom of the letter to school as soon as possible.
Book Club
All orders for Issue One are due back at school with payment no later than Friday 17 February
2017.

Thank you to the parents who were able to attend our Parent Information Evening on Tuesday
night. There were a number of families absent, however we did appreciate the notices that
were sent to us re apologies, as this helped teachers prepare for the evening. It is so important
that we have a supportive and two-way communication between home and school and I
know that our teachers really appreciated the opportunity to share with you all what they
have planned for your child and their learning this year. Over the next few weeks I will be
including in our school newsletter excerpts from my presentation for you all to read. This week’s
topics are Policy Checks and Seesaw.
Police Checks
It is a legal expectation that all parents who help out at school in some way complete a
police check.
Our front office staff can help you with this.
There is no cost.
Seesaw

Responsible User Agreements
There are still a few Agreements that have not been returned. It is imperative that these
Agreements are returned as soon as possible to the front office so that students are able to
use the computers. Those students who do not have signed consents are unable to have the
benefit of using computers at school.
Zooper Zooper Fridays
The Parents and Friends are kindly providing Zooper Doopers on Fridays. Please see the front of
this newsletter for dates.
Uniform Shop News
The Uniform Shop is open from 8.30am to 9.30am every Wednesday. If you are unable to
make it to school on Wednesdays, please obtain a uniform order form from the front office.

Transdisciplinary Theme: Who we are
Concepts: Function ~ Connection ~ Responsibility
Lines of Inquiry:
The importance of safety and rules
The people who care for our safety
Ways we can keep ourselves safe
Approaches to Learning: Social Skills
Learner Profile Attributes: Thinker ~ Reflective
Attitudes: Cooperation ~ Integrity
As part of the introduction to this inquiry, the Junior Primary classes have investigated what it
means to be a Thinker and Reflective. We have also explored the PYP Attitudes Cooperation
and Integrity. In this activity, teams had to cooperate to get their whole team successfully
across an imaginary gorge on the hall floor using ‘hover mats.’ The hover mats would vanish if
there wasn’t a foot on them so teams had to make sure that a member of the team always
had a foot on each mat so the whole team could get safely across.

Seasons for Growth
Changes and loss are issues that affect all of us at some time in our
lives.
At St John’s we recognise that when changes occur in families through death,
separation, divorce, or other circumstances, young people and children may benefit
from learning how to manage these changes effectively by exploring how we can
learn to live with and grow from these experiences. The core intentions of this program
are the development of resilience and emotional literacy to promote social and
emotional wellbeing. The program is educational in nature and does not provide
therapy.
St John’s is pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident
that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.
If you feel that your child/children would benefit from participating in the Seasons for
Growth program, please speak to the child’s class teacher or Lynn Grosser (Care
Coordinator).

Introducing
Our New LSO…..
I have grown up in Eudunda, where my husband, Joel and our beautiful
nine month old boy, Reid (RJ) have built our first home. When RJ starts
school at St John’s, he will be the fourth generation, with my father (Bill
Mader), my grandfather (Lloyd Mader) and I all having attended St John’s.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading
and relaxing at Wallaroo.
I am a Diploma qualified educator and currently in my fourth year studying
my Bachelor of Teaching and Learning Early Childhood through Charles
Darwin University. I have worked in the childcare industry for about 11 years with all age
groups and have had many roles within various centres.
I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to work at St John’s Lutheran School
where I completed my primary schooling over 18 years ago! I am excited to be able to work
alongside all these fantastic teachers who are a wealth of knowledge to gain the confidence
and abilities which will eventually lead me to the start of my teaching career.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know all the children and families, and for a fantastic
year ahead.
