Vanda has been raising funds for the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) in Cambodia for the last four years and has raised over US$2mil to date. CSC aims to improve the quality of life for disabled Cambodian children and adults by providing free rehabilitation surgery. Each year CSC provides more than 5000 free operations and more than 12,000 free consultations to people who would never have received treatment otherwise. In 2011, CSC began the extension of the hospital to more than double in size, provide 7 new operating tables, a dedicated X-Ray room and and additional 40 beds. We are honoured, that in recognition of our support, the extension has been named the Vanda Wing.

There will be an opportunity to head out to Phnom Penh with the Vanda team for anyone who is interested. This is a rewarding trip, giving the visitor an insight into the challenges of running the hospital and how important the event’s continued success is to the children of Phnom Penh.

There is no better recommendation for the event than the literally hundreds of testimonials you will find on Vanda Promotions. Since 2008 we have had more than 15,000 guests attend these unique nights where the boxers are the stars and the show production is award winning. The evening starts with a drinks reception for your guests who are surrounded by life size fight posters of you and your opponent before they are ushered into the spectacularly dressed ballroom. A four course Western set dinner with wine is served as they watch your introduction videos before you make your entrance along the elevated runway to the boxing ring in the centre of the ballroom. In three two-minute rounds, you will demonstrate the culmination of sixteen weeks of hard work against your opponent to the ultimate moment of destiny, when the judges submit their decision and the referee raises the hand of the winner for all to see.

We cannot promise you will enjoy every session but we guarantee you will benefit from it. Nobody goes through the WWCBA (World White Collar Boxing Association) program without becoming the fittest they have ever been in their lives. Boxing requires ultimate fitness and this training course not only equips you with the skills to perform in the ring but it will most likely transform your body shape as well. It is not unusual for people to lose 20% of their body fat and replace it with the lean mass we all strive for.

Training will be three times a week (Monday/Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings) at Vanda Boxing Club, the home of White Collar Boxing in Asia and these sessions will be approximately 60 mins in duration. They will concentrate on both fitness and technical competency, teaching you the fundamentals of punching, defence and movement. However, it can’t end there. You need to be training daily to help yourself along with the fitness and we will advise you on what other activities and exercises you should be looking to do as well as nutrition and the all important rest days! Vanda has guided over three hundred boxers through their white collar boxing training, so you can be assured we can help anyone get to where they need to be over the 3 months period.

Who will my opponent be?Vanda matches boxers based on weight, skills level and age. You will find out your opponent a few weeks prior to the event and will most likely have been training alongside them for the previous months.

How many people are in the squad? We generally select 20 from the 100-150 people that apply with a view to putting on 8-9 bouts on the night though with no drop outs and good performance, all 20 can compete also.

What equipment will I need? For the event itself, Vanda provides everything from the uniform to the boots, 16oz gloves and head gear. For training, you need normal gym clothes. We do recommend you purchase your own hand wraps and 16oz gloves as sharing gloves in a gym environment may not be very hygienic.

How do you get selected for the squad?Very simply we want boxers on the squad that people will want to come and see. We also want people who will put in the necessary effort. If you don’t think your friends will come or if you think work will get on top of you during the 16 weeks, this is not for you. We invest a lot of money and time in you, so not only would we be disappointed to see you drop out, think about the guy you would have faced who is then left without an opponent!

What can help me get selected?Evidence that you would be well supported. Willingness to get involved with the charity. An interest in blogging about your journey and your experiences. Your company wanting to sponsor your bout. All of these will get you noticed amongst the crowd. However the first thing is to attend the briefing!

When would we actually get into a ring and spar? That generally happens after four to six weeks.

Once the training team is comfortable you can move and defend yourself adequately, you will start to spar in a controlled environment, mainly with the coaching staff as your opponent.

Can I raise additional funds for Children’s Surgical Centre? We absolutely encourage it. We provide a First Giving web link that you can promote to your friends and family who may not be there to support you on the evening itself. Every little effort helps when you consider that CSC can perform a life-saving operation for US$175.

Will there be pictures or videos of my big night? We have a professional digital media team at every event that captures over 500 stills as well as video the entire event. A week or so after the event is completed, you will receive a disc of photographs and video footages of the event.
