The last time the unmarried 67-year-old went anywhere other than on foot was when she had to get into a hearse for her mother's funeral in June 1992.

The only other time she has stepped onboard a fuel-guzzling vehicle was when she was taken to hospital by ambulance with a dislocated shoulder in 1991

She eats raw foods like nuts, fruit and vegetables to stay environmentally-friendly.

Her only excess is boiling a kettle to wash and using dried milk in her cups of tea. She also makes many of her clothes

She estimates that since the early 1970s she has run or walked about 135,415 miles - the equivalent of nearly five-and-a-half times around the world.
