Uso de CAN y CAN'Thttp://herrprofessormiranda.blogspot.com/2009/08/uso-de-can-y-cant.html
¿Cómo se dice en inglés: ¿Sabes nadar??
La respuesta es: Can you swim?
Significado de "Can":
Usos de "Can":
Can se usa para:
Solicitar o pedir algo Pedir y dar permiso Indicar una posibilidad Habilidades
Veamos ejemplos:
Pedir: Can you come [keaniukam]? ¿Puedes venir?
Dar permiso: You can go. [iukeangou] Te puedes ir.
Posibilidad: Who is that man? It can only be your friend. ¿Quién es ése hombre? Sólo puede ser tu amigo.
Habilidad: She can drive [shi kean draiv] Ella sabe conducir
Estructura: Sujeto + can + verbo siempre en infinitivo.
Ejemplo 1: I can eat a lot[aikean iitalot]. (Yo) puedo comer mucho.
Ejemplo 2: She can study now [shii keanstadi nau]. Ella puede estudiar ahora.
Ejemplo 3: It can run (Itkeanran]. Puede funcionar. (Una máquina, por ejemplo).
Ejemplo 4: They can see us [deikeansiias]. Ellos/Ellas pueden vernos.
¿Cómo se niega con "Can"
Estructura negación: Sujeto + cannot (can't)+ verbo principal en infinitivo siempre.
Ejemplo 1: They cannot (can't) work. [Dei kean'tgourk]. Ellos/Ellas no pueden trabajar.
Ejemplo 2: She cannot (can´t) live here anymore [Shi kean'tlIvhiirenimor]. Ella ya no puede vivir aquí.
¿Cómo se pregunta con "Can"?
Estructura preguntas: Can + sujeto + verbo siempre en infinitivo+?
Ejemplo 1: Can you open the door? [Keaniuopendedoor?] ¿Puedes abrir la puerta (tú)?
Ejemplo 2: Can she see us? [Keanshiisiias?] ¿Puede (ella) vernos?
Repaso de las estructuras:
Positivo Sujeto+ can + verbo principal en infinitivo.
Negativo Sujeto + cannot (can't) + verbo principal en infinitivo siempre.
Pregunta Can + sujeto + verbo principal en infinitivo siempre+?

Forma afirmativae interrogativa
Forma negativa Forma negativacontraida
Presente can cannot can't
Pasado could could not couldn't
can
- They won't be able to play - No podrán jugar- I haven't been able to sell it - No he podido venderlo
Cannot se escribe en una sola palabra.
Usos mas importantes de can
1. Poder hacer algo:
- I can't open this bottle - No puedo abrir esta botella. - This car can reach 220kmh. – Este coche puede llegar a 220km por hora.
2. Saber hacer algo:
- I can swim – Sé nadar.- I can’t speak French – No sé hablar Francés.- Can you dance Tango? – ¿Sabes bailar Tango?
- We know you’re a vegetarian. – Sabemos que eres vegetariano.
El verbo to know también se puede emplear para expresar la habilidad de hacer algo, construyéndose entonces con how to:
- He knows how to dance = He can dance - Sabe bailar.
- Para expresar habilidad en el futuro se emplea to be able to:
- I’ll never be able to buy a new car if I don’t save money. / Nunca podré comprar un nuevo coche si no ahorro dinero.
3. Peticiones:
- Can you buy me a drink? - ¿Puedes comprarme una bebida?- Can I ask you something? - ¿Puedo preguntarte algo?
4. Con los verbos de percepción como to feel (sentir) to see (ver). to hear (oír), etc., se suele usar can + infinitivo sin to:
- I can feel you close to me, but I can’t see you.
- Can I take one? – ¿Puedo coger uno?- Yes, you can take one. – Si, puedes coger uno.
- No, you can’t have a biscuit before lunch.
2. Poder de posibilidad:
- I don’t think the car can be repaired. / No creo que el coche se pueda arreglar.- Can vodka be frozen? – ¿Se puede congelar el vodka?
3. Deducción negativa:
She can’t be eighteen yet. / Ella no puede tener dieciocho años todavía.
Nota:Para deducciones afirmativas se emplea must.
- She must be eighteen already / Ella debe tener ya dieciocho años
They can be very funny. – Ellos pueden ser muy divertidos.
Valencia can get very hot in August / Valencia puede llegar a ser muy calurosa en agosto.
could
Como pasado de can, could se traduce al español por pretérito indefinido o pretérito imperfecto.
- She couldn’t phone you. / No te pudo llamar.- He could play the piano.
- Could you pass the salt, please? / ¿Podrías pasar la sal por favor?- I’d marry her tomorrow, if I could. / Me casaría con ella mañana si pudiera.
Usos mas importantes de could
1. Poder hacer algo:
I tried, but I couldn’t open this bottle / Intenté pero no pude abrir esta botella.
2. Saber hacer algo:
I could speak German when I lived in Germany. / Sabía hablar alemán cuando vivía en Alemania.
Nota:Al igual que can, could significa saber sólo en el sentido de tener habilidad para hacer algo; en el sentido de tener conocimiento de algo se emplea to know:
I knew she had been with another man / Sabía que había estado con otro hombre.
3. Peticiones corteses:
Could you do me a favor? / ¿Podrías hacerme un favor?
Nota:Como en español, could resulta más cortés que can
(podrías es más cortés que puedes)
4. Estilo indirecto, equivalente a can en el directo:
"I can see you next Thursday", she said.
She said that she could see me next Thursday.
5. Permiso (más informal que 'may'):
Could I make a phone call? – ¿Podría hacer una llamada?
6. Posibilidad
He could be out at this time of the afternoon.

1. Su infinitivo NUNCA va precedido de TO como los verbos comunes (to go, to read, to play, etc).
2. En las formas negativa e interrogativa se comportan como el verbo auxiliar to be que ya has aprendido.
3. No toman la s en la tercera persona del singular del presente (he, she, it).
4. Siempre les sigue un VERBO EN INFINITIVO SIN TO .
EL VERBO DEFECTIVO QUE ESTAS ESTUDIANDO EN ESTA UNIDAD ES EL VERBO CAN. VEAMOS ...
He CAN play tennis (Puede jugar tenis; Es capaz de jugar tenis; Sabe jugar tenis).
CAN he play tennis?
He CAN'T play tennis = He CANNOT play tennis (No puede jugar tenis; No es capaz de jugar tenis; No sabe jugar tenis).
COLOQUIALMENTE, SON MUY UTILIZADAS LAS FORMAS CORTAS:
Yes, she CAN (Sí, puede hacerlo; Sí, es capaz de hacerlo; Sí, sabe hacerlo)
No, she CAN'T (No, no puede hacerlo; No, no es capaz de hacerlo; No, no sabe hacerlo)
¿Siempre aprendes algo nuevo, ¿no? Entonces, ¡¡¡ a practicarlo en otro audio !!!

1.000.000 a/one million 1.000.000th one millionth
9 TIPS PARA TENER EN CUENTA:
I insist that it cost one thousand, not three.
3. A billion era equivalente a "un billón". Actualmente equivale a "mil millones".
(primero), 1st. (first); 2do. (segundo), 2nd. (second); 3ro. (tercero), 3rd. (third); 20mo. (vigésimo), 20th. (twentieth), etc.
US$ 4 millions sino US$ 4 million. En cambio podemos hablar de "millions" of birds, "millions" of children, etc.

I have (I've) walked [aivguokt] ("walked" es el participio del verbo "walk") I have (I've) slept well [aivslept güel] ("slept" es el participio del verbo "sleep") The house was built in 1990 [dehaus guasbiltIn naintiinnaiti]("built" es el participio del verbo "build") I have (I've) seen the film [aivsiindefIlm]("seen" es el participio del verbo "see")
Present participles - Past participles
Pregunta:

- He is eating.
- It was snowing yesterday. Nevaba ayer.
-This film is very interesting.
-She went walking.
-I have seen it. Yo lo he visto.
It was sold.
There is a broken glass on the floor.
