MoU with CONTENTTRIBE 6 June 2019

An MoU was signed between Teresian Innovation and Business Incubation Centre (TIBIC) andNiveditha Ramesh, Director of CONTENTTRIBE and her team. CONTENTTRIBE is the firstin-house incubatee of TIBIC. CONTENTTRIBE is a business unit which engages in freelancecontent writing and content editing and is managed by the students of St. Teresa’s College.

B CUBE 18 JULY 2019

A One day Workshop on Business Unit Formation was conducted on 18 July 2019. It wasfollowed by a panel discussion and a presentation of the incubatees of TIBIC.The Resource Persons of the workshop were Mr.Sivan Ambatt and Mr.VS.Sivakumar.The aim of the workshop was to bring in incubatees; introducing and familiarising them to theworld of business and marketing. The workshop included a detailed talk on business plan,business formation schematics, branding and marketing and offers on promoting new businesses.The TIBIC incubatees (CONTENTRIBE) and potential incubatees from the French department(Tourism), Physics department (ICONNECT) and Fashion designing team (Fashion Clinic)presented their business plans to the panel which was followed by discussions pertaining to theissues of each business uint. About 100 students interested in business ventures and startupsparticipated in the event.

INVESTORS MEET AND AWARD DISTRIBUTION30 July 2019

Teresian IEDC and Samrambhak Mitra jointly organised the Investors Meet and AwardDistribution of Idea Challenge 2019 on 30 July 2019. The Investor’s Meet and AwardDistribution under the Idea Challenge-2019 was inaugurated by Sri. V. Sasi, Hon. DeputySpeaker, Kerala Legislative Assembly on 30th July 2019 at St. Teresas Collge, Ernakulam. Dr. K.N Madhusoodanan, Vice Chancellor CUSAT distributed awards to the Best three Ideas andTrophies to the Colleges from which the best Ideas submitted.The Marijuana Detector- the Idea submitted by students of Sahrdaya College of Engineering,Kodakara, Thrissur District bagged the first prize of Rs.25000/- and Trophy and Citation.Luminos- the Idea submitted by students from Rajadhani Institute of Engineering andTechnology, Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram was declared as the second best Idea and they got aCash award of Rs. 15000/-, Trophy and Citation. AROHA-An advanced Wheel Chair, the Ideasubmitted by Rajadhani Institute bagged the third prize of Rs. 10000/-, Trophy and Citation.

TERESIAN IDEA CHALLENGE 30 August 2019

Teresian Innovation and Business Incubation Centre (TIBIC) organised the Teresian IdeaChallenge 2019 on August 30, 2019 for the students of St. Teresa’s College to invite and presentinnovate ideas so that assistance be provided to convert ideas into viable products/concepts .Shortlisted ideas from the event were submitted for the Young Innovators challenge 2019-22organised by Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (KDISC) and PrathyushaGudlkandula’s (II BCOM) idea of Zerowaste Kit was selected for the State Level Challenge.

One day workshop on Business Plan Formulation was conducted on 19 September 2019. Theresource person was Jackson Disilva, Assistant Professor, XIME. The interested students from Bcom, BMS, BA.Economics attended the session. The workshopdealt with the matrices for formulating business plans and discussed various business plantemplates.

IDEA81 Oct 2019

A one-day workshop on “Idea Generation” was organised by the Teresian IEDC and TIBIC(Teresian Innovation and Business Incubation Centre) at the A V Hall on Tuesday, 1st October2019 at St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Members ofthe organising committee welcomed the participants and introduced the basic idea of theprogramme to all. The workshop was chaired by Mr.Alvin Chris Antony and Mr. Aromal SP ofAlpha Omega Entertainments, a start-up company. Students who participated in the workshopwere involved in various activities (Developing an Idea, naming a start-up, analysing problemsand finding accurate solutions) as instructed by the facilitators. The main purpose of the workshop was to generate innovative ideas for social causesand to promote entrepreneurship amongst students. The participants of the workshop weremainly from the Department of French, B.Com and English Literature. The students weredivided into 4 groups and were asked to describe a start-up and differentiate it with businessproviding examples for each. Several points were discussed and noted with the help of the powerpoint presentation provided by the facilitators. The facilitators also gave living examples – Of thefounder of Uber- Travis Cordell Kalanick, Of Flipkart – Sachin and Binny Bansal to give us abetter understanding of the topic that was being discussed. The session after the tea break wastaken over by Mr.Aromal SP who raised a question -“What is the first thing that is used todevelop an idea?” to which we answered – “A problem”. Students of each team were asked tothink of a social cause or an issue that is vexing the world deeply. Mr.Aromal stated that one cansolve an issue in two ways – As a business and as a start-up. Team 1 named themselves as TESS(Thoughtful Environmental Sustainable System), Team 2 as HAPPI (Home Appliances ProblemPrevention Initiative), Team 3 as DEWS (Developing Edible Water System), Team 4 as APPU(Air Pollution Prevention Unit). Several points were discussed to find solutions to the issues noted and was asked to “compareand not imitate” their team/idea to an accepted, successful existing company. The facilitatorsasked the members of the team to select a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Marketing Officer anda Chief Operating Officer from their corresponding team. Mr.Aromal then shared a few of hispersonal experiences along with introducing a few business terms such as Venture Capitalist,Price Round, Stocks etc. The facilitators instructed the CEO, CMO and COO of the teams toexplain how their company would work in the marketing field and how well one can execute andrun the company successfully. The session ended with the participants sharing their experienceand giving a vote of thanks to the facilitators.

INNOVATION DAY CELEBRATIONS -201914th October & 15th October 2019)

Teresian IEDC and IIC jointly organized various activities in connection with the National InnovationDay celebrated on 15th October 2019 in memory of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Birth Anniversary.

ACTIVITY I -POSTER DESIGNING COMPETITIONAs part of the Innovation Day initiated by MHRD ,GOVT.OF INDIA, Innovation and EntrepreneurshipDevelopment Centre (IEDC) and the Institution’s Innovation Cell (IIC) of St.Teresa’s college, Ernakula,a poster designing competition and a JUNK FUNK competition was conducted for the students of undergraduate and post graduate programmes of the college on 15th October ,2019.The main objective of theprogram was to create a sense of innovation and creativity among young minds.

Theme for the Poster designing competition was “INNOVATION” and students were free to make theirposters based on their innovation and creativity skills .Students participated with immense zeal andenthusiasm and made very beautiful posters showcasing their aesthetic creativity and innovation skills.Out of 11 participants , first prize was bagged by KRISHNA PRIYA SUNIL of I Bsc. Psychology andsecond prize was grabbed by REBECCA GIGI of I BA Economics.

ACTIVITY II- PRODUCT DESIGNING COMPETITION

The main theme of ‘JUNK FUNK’ competition was “wealth from waste”. Students were asked toprepare as many as useful materials with waste materials as the only resource within a time limit of oneand half hours. The competition began at 10:00 am and was concluded at 11:30 am. The competitionattracted a lot of students and received massive participation. It was a great opportunity to watch theseyoung minds trying to bring out their innovation out of waste materials. The competition was reallyenjoyed by all students. Out of 14 teams each with 2 members ,FATHIMA RAIHANATH andSANITHA JOHNY of I PG Mathematics were selected as the winners. ANNA RILUSHA P S andJOSCELIA MARIA PHILIP of I Bsc Mathematics were selected as the second prize winners.Ms.Neenu Susan Paul (staff in charge –Bhoomithra Sena ,Assistant professor, Department ofMathematics) and Ms.Anu Valooran (Assistant Professor of the Department of Fashion Designing) werethe judges for the day. Winners were awarded cash prizes.

ACTIVITY III-HANDON TRAINING ON CLOTH BAGS

As part of the National Innovation day celebrations, the IIC and IEDC of St. Teresa’s college jointlyorganized a Hands on Training for school students on the making of Eco friendly Cloth Bags and pencilpouches. 15 students from St. Teresa’s Higher Secondary School, Ernakulam participated in the training.The students were given training by Ms. Sivaprabha G Kammath, Final Year Post graduate student ofMSc. Resource Management and Interior Designing. She trained the students to make cloth bags andpencil pouches using waste cloths. The students enthusiastically participated in the training andrequested more sessions of the same.

ACTIVITY IV One day workshop on entrepreneurship and innovation as careeropportunity-14th October 2019

On 14th October 2019, the IIC and IEDC jointly organised a one day workshop onentrepreneurship and innovation as career opportunity. Rev. Dr. Sr. Vinita CSST, director of St.Teresa's College and Principal, Dr. Sajimol Augustine graced the program .Ms. Anu JosephPalathingal, Entrepreneur was the resource person. As the first artisanal cheese maker in Keralaand founder of Casaro Creamery, she shared her various experiences as a businesswoman andencouraged the participants to pursue their dreams. During the workshop, she stressed theimportance of experiments and trials in the field of business, focusing on the inevitability offailures. According to her, what made an entrepreneur different from the rest of society is his orher determination to try and try again. Comparing the daily life of a corporate employee and anentrepreneur, she stated that, while one may be risk-free and ensure a regular flow of income, theother promises a difficult but satisfactory life - doing what one loved and achieving what onedreamt of. She also talked about the need to conduct market studies and methods to createdemand. Organizations like TIE, Kerala Start-up and women entrepreneur network wereintroduced to the students. She ended the session by citing a very inspirational quote from WaltDisney, "If you have a dream you must have the courage to pursue it."

IEDC SUMMIT 2019- Asia's largest summit for aspiring Entrepreneurs, involves Invited Talks, Startup Exhibition and Activity Hub. It was held on 19th October, 2019, at Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Thrissur, Kerala. The summit aims at accelerating the spirit of vibrant individuals to showcase their abilities linear to the technical side and also enhance their keen on product marketing. About 4000 aspirants participated in this global event from about 214 colleges. On 19th October, a group of 10 members along with the IEDC nodal officer , Dr. Tania Mary Vivera from TIBIC attended the IEDC Summit 2019 held at Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Kodakara. They attended talks by established as well as budding entrepreneurs. The Digital Impact Square as well as the many exhibits revealed the technical leaps that have happened over the years as well as provided a platform to promote and market entrepreneurial initiatives. The students experienced the technological diversities and advancements through a series of technology track events , brainstorming sessions, interactive community meetups and product exhibitions.

MoU was signed between TIBIC & Ms.Meenakshi representing ICONNECT of PhysicsDepartment. ICONNECT specializes in incorporating the use of LED bulbs in the preparation ofinterior decorations and home décor.

The students and faculty members of the innovation cell and IEDC of St Teresa’s college visited

Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), Kalamassery to witness and understand the various facilities,

functions and activities of KSUM . The visit gave the students an opportunity to see the facilities

at KSUM, the Maker Village and the FABLAB.

IEDC and IIC of St.Teresa’s College jointly organized the ‘Young Entrepreneurs Meet’-Inspirational talks by young successful entrepreneurs and Exhibition cum sale by Teresianentrepreneurs on 22 January 2020. The aim of the workshop was to open up the ventures ofinnovation and startup in higher educational institutions. Dr. Sam Thomas (Professor, School ofManagement Studies, CUSAT) was the Chief Guest of the Meet and he delivered the keynoteaddress. He delivered an informative speech on entrepreneurship and its role in the lives ofyoung Entrepreneurs and today’s economy. He encouraged the students to begin their ownbusinesses, even if it is imitating an enterprise which is successful, as those enterprises play avital role in developing countries. He asked the young entrepreneurs to believe in their ideas andproceed to make a business out of it as incubation centers such as Kerala Start-Up Missionprovide facilities and provisions to nourish such ideas. The associated event was the Young Entrepreneur’s Meet- Exhibition cum Sale that aimed tooffer growth paradigms to new-age entrepreneurs and nurture the entrepreneurial spirit in newgenerations. The Young Entrepreneurs Meet reflects St.Teresa’s college efforts in supportingstartups and aspiring entrepreneurs to contribute effectively in the sustainability anddiversification of the national economy. The programme provided an open floor for the youth toshowcase their ideas and projects. It supported young entrepreneurs, engaged and attracted themto the entrepreneurial scene in the country. Five young entrepreneurs who have made their markin Kerala’s entrepreneurial milieu engaged the story telling session and shared their personalstories regarding the life/journey of an entrepreneur. The resource persons of the story tellingsession were Ms. Enfa Rose George, Director of Pehia Foundation; Mr. Stephen Sebastian,Founder of Charity Monk; Mr. Nitin Vasanth, Founder of Neurotech Labs; Anne Joseph, founderof Designer Detailers and Remya Thomas, Founder- French Knots- Online Boutique. Theycollectively inspired the audience with their enthusiasm and passion for business.

KWINS PROGRAM

January 27 2020

Kerala Women in Nano Startups (KWINS) programme managed by Kerala Startup Mission andwas inaugurated by Dr.Saji Gopinath on 27th January 2020. KWINS program, a women’sempowerment initiative by Kerala Startup Mission was launched with an objective to enablequalified women who are currently on a career break to take up flexible freelance assignments asper their convenience. Initial discussions regarding the pilot programme and its managementwere conducted at TIBIC room, St. Teresa’s College. The meetings were headed by Mr. Vishaland Ms. Pavithra from KSUM and attended by IEDC Core Team members and the staff incharge of St. Teresa’s College. The KWINS program was supported by IEDC, St. Teresa’sCollege. The Alumni members of St. Teresa’s College were contacted by IEDC and IQAC of St.Teresa’s College and they had registered for the KWINS pilot program.
