Circularity
the smaller the circle, the better
innovation is needed for a sustainable future
Measurement for Maintenance
Measurement for Maintenance
Problem• The process of ageing is unknown.• Hence remaining lifetime is unknown. • To increase circularity, the asset should be used as long as possible.• Current load and load capacity need to be known (Tiedo Tinga – load vs. load
capacity).
Solution• measurements to increase understanding of ageing process:
- oil quality - outside temperature - oil temperature - electrical load (mean and peaks)
• 10 transformers per age group of different capacities and types • no exchange of these transformers, but add a redundant one to maintain reliability• this also allows to overload transformers to increase ageing
- with every 6 degrees increase in hotspot temperature, the ageing rate doubles
Innovation IncentivesProblem• The manufacturer does not have a constant incentive to increase sustainability• Hence innovation is mainly related to the procurement process• Without innovation, a sustainable future cannot be reached
Solution• Cooperation through the supply chain by shared KPIs (Henk Akkermans & Simme
Douwe Flapper) • What KPIs to measure?
– circularity – energy efficiency – reliability
• This gives IEO the possibility to come with a business case to replace old transformers for innovative ones (Jan Braaksma)
Innovation Playground
Design for circularity
Innovation PlaygroundProblem• Conservative business while innovation is needed• Reliability may not suffer as a result of innovation• Innovations are needed to increase sustainability• Pilot studies can prove the reliability of innovations
Solution• innovation playgrounds with redundant transformer• automatic switching in case of failure (with sensor equipment)• redundant transformer may be used to regulate loads on the transformer• design for maintenance and sustainability (Leo van Dongen & Wienik Mulder)
- measurement equipment - modular design (repleaceable windings/coils)- reliable - oil replacement- energy efficiency - icebergs: on-load-tap-changer, 10kV to 20kV, energy storage (Richard Ruitenburg)
