ALL ABOUT INSECTS
OBJECTIVES• Students will understand that there
are different types of insects.
• Students will be able to name at least three insects
• Student will be able to name the body parts of an insect.
WHAT IS AN INSECT• Insects belong to a group called
arthropod.• Arthropods means having limbs with
many joints that bend in many directions
• Insects have six legs only and three body parts
CAN YOU NAME THE FOLLOWING INSECTS?
Do you know that insects have three body parts?
The basic body parts of an insect:
1. HEAD
2. THORAX
3. ABDOMEN
• The Head is where the antennae, eyes and mouth is located.
• The thorax is what holds the legs. The Legs are made for jumping, grabbing, digging and swimming.
• The abdomen is like the stomach. They breathe from the side of their abdomen as well since insects don’t have a nose.
CAN YOU LABEL THIS ANT?

marshmallows to make the body parts. Use the pretzel sticks to make the antennas and legs. M&M’s for the eyes.
