NOVEMBER ROUND TABLE
Fellow Drifters, we are piloting a new program to add to our November meeting
where HPD members will have a chance to discuss various fly fishing topics with
fellow members in an organized format. We will arrange several round tables with
different topics. Each round table will be organized and have a dedicated topic.
Members will be able to move between round tables and discuss topics with other
members. Each round table will have experts to help guide the discussion. This will
be an excellent opportunity to learn a new area of fly fishing, or communicate your
advice to others on topic you are already an expert.
To better provide interesting topics, please take a moment to fill out the
following survey: http://www.hpd-fff.com/survey/

day’s events…. Or
possibly discussing
their next fishing trip.
Registration time -- sign-in please!
Janelle Peterson and Judy Kress did a great job greeting all our
guests and getting them registered, waivers signed for the DOW,
and instructions for the day’s activities.
When’s LUNCH~?!!
Grill Master, Bruce Brown,
managed the cooking team
of Jeff Jablonski, George
Brown, (in photos), David
Saunders, Dan Hogan Ann
Martin, Jeff McClung, and
Ed Schroeder. Thanks team
for a fantastic and well
organized lunch! And no
food fights either…
Got gear? Know your
KNOTS?
John Peterson had fun
teaching the kids and parents
how to tie all types of knots;
plus did a great job
demonstrating all the gear
required for a day on the water
with your favorite fly rod.
Thanks John!
John’s class is in session… first was Basic
Equipment 101 and then came knot tying
101….
Bugs, Bugs, and more BUGS!!
A special thanks to Alex Gray from the Butterfly Pavilion for having a very
exciting demonstration table full of BUGS!! Alex did an amazing job
keeping the kids attention (with the help a few select special bugs he
brought) and answered all their questions on what types of bugs fish eat.
This demo is always a treat for the kids – what fly fisherman/kid doesn’t
like bugs?
Fly tying time!!
We had a couple of
“repeat” guests from
last year, and Kim
Anthony was one of
them. She had so
much with Mike
Sutton last year that
she immediately
jumped to his table to
tie some very cool
flies!
Fly ting time!!
Ralph Rhoades shows
Walker how to tie a
midge pattern.
No more San Juan
worms for these kids!
Doug Borer’s keen
attention to detail with
one our guest students.
Special thanks to all
our Fly Tiers for an
outstanding job at the
vises – besides Mike,
Ralph, and Doug, also
helping were Stan
Martin, George Kress,
Richard LaDue, Mark
Bolson
The art of fly casting – by “Professor”
Brett Edwards~!
HPD is honored to have Master Fly
Casting instructor, Brett Edwards,
leading the team of instructors Larry
Lester, Paul Scherner and Ron
Williams.
Special thanks to all our Fly Caster
teachers for working in a tight area
with 18 fly rods moving in all
directions!
Let’s go fishing!!
Jeff Laird and grandson,
Noah spying a few bass
and Blue Gill along the
shore line.
Jeff Jablonski un-hooks a
nice Rainbow for our guest
student Abby Hamlin.
Congratulations to Ryan Slocum for the top honors of best fish of the day~!!
It’s not always if you catch a fish or not, but just having fun…. But when you
combine catching an 18” / 3lb Large Mouth Bass on a fly rod – now that will bring a
HUGE smile and a nice fish story to tell your friends for years to come!
Special thanks to Paul Scherner for tying on his own black foam beetle pattern and
to David Saunders for helping with the net & release. Paul even when into the
water to help net the monster bass so Ryan would have a few photos. PS – Ryan
decided at the last minute he would go with his sister to the fishing clinic…. I think
he’s glad he did and “HOOKED”!!!
Say hello to the Class of June, 28, 2014 ~!!
HPD is honored to have spent the day with this terrific group of eager and excited future fly
fisher-people~!! It was exciting to see every student (young and old) catching fish (Rainbow
Trout, Blue Gill, and Bass) considering it reached 90+ degrees that afternoon. Hope to see
everyone back next year!
Ainsley Slocum, Ryan Slocum, Billy Muman, Jake Muman, Abby Hamlin, Drake Jensen,
Noah Lesperance, Mitchel Adamson, Mac Reilly, Alexander Bank, Jared Kovacs, Anna Marie
Covenington, Olivia Latimer, Reese Latimer, Micah Haack, Xander Bachman, Kendall

Have a fun summer vacation and tight lines always my friends!!
DREAM STREAM LETTER
Tim,
There has been another HPD unselfish show of concern and member support that
should be mentioned.
This has to do with a HPD Open Trip request that was placed for the recent Charlie
Meyers/Dream Stream trip captained by Paul Boals.
Since there was the prospect of considerable walking, a request was made for a fishing
partner for some of the fishing time from a HPD member.
I am so pleased and proud of an organization that brought forward some Emails, some
phone calls and comments from some other members in a supportive way.
The help and comments from: Paul B, Larry L, David S, Michael L, Brett E and friend
Pat, Ed S and some others during the day of fishing on the Dream Stream is really a
compliment to HPD.
This is a nice testament of an organization that has virtue.
Respectfully,
Al Baclawski
