Child Development Centers will begin the 2021-2022 school term on Tuesday, Aug. 31, for Pre-K Counts students and Tuesday, Sept. 7, for Head Start students in its Venango County classrooms with 100 percent in-person learning.

Here is a summary of school-related information for the upcoming term:COVID-19 Safety Protocols — CDC’s internal Health Services Team, led by a

board-certified pediatrician, has implemented safety measures in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone who enters the facility is required to pass a screening at the door which includes a temperature check, use of hand sanitizer (pro-vided by CDC) and answering a series of questions relating to symptoms and poten-tial COVID-19 exposure.

All unvaccinated adult staff members are required to wear a mask in our centers. Any outside direct service providers and visitors (non-employees) must also wear a mask upon entry at any of our facilities regardless of their vaccination status. Children ages 2 and above are also strongly encouraged to wear face masks in our centers.

As children arrive at our centers, a staff member will complete the screening pro-tocols at the entranceway. Children with a temperature registering at 100 degrees Fahrenheit or above, and those displaying obvious signs of illness, will not be per-mitted to board the bus or attend class that day. Throughout the duration of the school year, these protocols are subject to change. All families will be notified immediately of any COVID-19 protocol updates in our centers.

Head Start — Head Start is the federal government’s preschool program for 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children from low-income households. Head Start at CDC is a full-day, nine-month program that is intended to prepare children for a successful transi-tion to kindergarten and elementary school. In addition to early childhood education, Head Start offers a number of other services that support the children’s health, devel-opment and family well-being. Slots are still available at the Cranberry center, as well as the 7th Street site in Franklin and Grant Street location in Oil City. Interested families can submit an application by visiting www.cdcenters.org/enroll-now or by calling (814) 670-0643. A family’s income must be at or below the federal poverty level — currently $26,200 for a family of four — for children to enroll in Head Start. The program is free to income-eligible households.

Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts — This state-funded pre-kindergarten learning pro-gram will be offered at CDC’s Hasson Heights, Franklin School-Age, and Cranberry centers. Pre-K Counts is for children who are at least 3 years old but not yet old enough to start kindergarten. The full-day, nine-month program is open to families whose income is below 300 percent of the federal poverty level ($78,600 for a fam-ily of four). Pre-K Counts is intended to give children an early educational boost that will help them to do better in the classroom when they make the transition to kinder-garten and elementary school. Instruction focuses on reading and math skills, social and school-readiness skills, following directions, and getting along with fellow stu-dents and teachers. There also is emphasis on developing an interest in learning and involving the family in the child’s education.

Preschool — CDC also offers a tuition-based preschool program at its Venango County centers for 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children that is identical to Pre-K Counts but has no income eligibility guidelines. For more information on any of the preschool programs, families can call(814) 670-0838.

School-Age Care — The Venango County School-Age Program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade will continue to offer before and after school care, which includes breakfast, snack, educational activities, homework help and transpor-tation to most schools every day that classes are held. Families who enroll for before-school services may drop off children at CDC any time between 6 a.m. and when buses leave for school. All children in after-school care must be picked up by 6 p.m.

CDC will not be able to accommodate school-age children who need care during the school day or during remote learning sessions.

Hours of operation — The school day for children enrolled in CDC’s Pre-K Counts program is from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Child care at centers that offer Pre-K Counts is available before and after classes.

School days off — Unless otherwise noted, CDC centers are open on snow can-cellation days and other days off. CDC’s only weekdays off during this school term are Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Memorial Day.

Outer Limits — CDC’s Outer Limits program makes a way for local children to take part in school-related athletics, the arts and other activities that involve skill-building. Among activities that participants may choose are football, soccer, wres-tling, cheerleading, and music and art lessons. Families can learn more by contacting Outer Limits coordinator Tammy Snyder at (814) 225-8388 or [email protected].

High school students who will be driving to school must fill out a Permission to Drive form.

cations must fill out appropriate Medication Forms available on the school’s website. The completed forms must be turned in to the school at the par-ent orientation session scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24.

TransportationAccording to Pennsylvania state law,

public schools are required to bus stu-dents to private schools that are within a 10-mile radius of their district borders.

Transportation to and from Christian Life Academy is offered by the Cranberry, Franklin, Oil City, Valley Grove, Titusville and West Forest school dis-tricts. (Knox, A-C Valley, Clarion, North Clarion and Penncrest transportation is handled individually by parents.)

Upon initial enrollment at CLA, par-ents should contact their school district to inform them of a busing need; the appropriate district is then responsible for all further arrangements. Shortly before classes begin, public announce-ments are made concerning pick-up points and time tables. If scheduling dif-ficulties arise, the head of transportation in your school district or the busing con-tractor should be contacted by the par-ents.

Following is contact information that may be helpful for CLA families:

Spiritual lifeOur spiritual life is of the utmost

importance to our staff and teachers. We recognize this is as vitally important to each and every child and we make it a priority in everything we do. We ask that families prepare for all the good things that God has in store for our school in the next year by prioritizing the following items: Spiritual Life Chapel — Weekly

chapel services are held on Wednesdays. These are special times to worship our Lord Jesus Christ in preaching, teaching, prayer and song. Students should take a Bible to chapel and enter the service with a worshipful attitude. Scripture Memorization — The

approved Bible translation for all memo-rization work is the English Stand Version. Every child needs their own Bible to use.
