Mother’s Day Celebration
Don’t forget to visit our Snoezelen Room that is located on the 2nd floor be-
side the library, marked “Snoezelen Room”.
Inside the room, there is a Snoezelen cart that consists of several stimulating
components such as fiber optic lights, a bubble tube, projector, background
sound, lavender sensory smell, and a tactile kit.
Please contact the program department with any questions.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Family Council
The Family Council sponsored entertainment for residents and their families on two Saturday afternoons in
February and March. These events were made possible due to the money raised at two successful fundraisers
last fall, the Christmas Bazaar and the Poinsettia Sales.
The Family Council will meet on Thursday, April 27th, at 7 pm in the Neely Room. The discussion will focus
on dealing with dementia and will present strategies to help cope with caregiver stress. Jennifer Mason, a
Psychogeriatric Consultant from York Region, will be the presenter.
Topics of common interest will be dealt with after Jenn's presentation. There will be a discussion about how
to best use the money from the fundraisers to benefit all the residents. Your ideas are needed !
All family members and friends of Markhaven residents are considered to be members of the Markhaven
Family Council.
Please mark your calendars for April 27th. Plan to attend and meet with other family members for mutual
support and to hear important information.
Dear families and loved ones,
A resident at Markhaven named Betty Hetner is making knitted Easter egg baskets at a price of $5.00 to help
raise money for Operation Tanzania. Operation Tanzania is focused on assisting children diagnosed with
physical disabilities such as cleft lips by building a medical clinic. Often times many babies and children
may be diagnosed with other diseases resulting in death before or after birth. With your help, Betty can
reach her goal of $200 and make a difference in the lives of children. Thank you for your support.

Retirement Notice
Please be advised that as of April 1, 2017, I will
no longer be providing foot care to the residents
of Markhaven. I am pleased that Michelle Ganzon,
RPN, Certified Foot Care Nurse, is now taking
over my role.
It has been my pleasure working with the
Markhaven staff in meeting the foot care
needs of the residents over the past dozen years.
Thank you to each one for your support and all
the best for the future.
Blessings,
Lois Edwards, RN, BScN.,
Home Foot Care
As part of our plan to promote integration, effi-
ciency and team work, effective March 27, 2017
all Registered Practical Nurses will rotate units.
This cross training will ensure that all RPNs are
comfortable and better equipped to work on
different units as the need arises. This will also
ensure that we are able to continue to provide
excellent care to our residents. Please do not
hesitate to reach out to the Director of Care if
you have any questions about this new process
as we work to improve resident care.
