Hello Woodstock Parents. October was a fun and busy month for our little Wolverines. Thank you to all of the volunteers and teachers that made the class Halloween parties a success. The kids had a great time dancing at the Halloween assembly and dressing up in costume. Be sure to follow Woodstock PTA on Facebook and Instagram for pictures and updates!

We have our PTA sponsored Veteran’s Day program on November 8th for our 5th and 6th graders. This is a very special program that was started at Woodstock years ago and is a great way to honor the Veteran in our lives. Information should have come home with your student. If you have specific questions about the Veteran’s Day program please contact Robyn Ivins at [email protected].

And finally, Thank you for supporting our first Parent’s and Pastries for the year. Thank you Joe Russo and his fabulous team that puts it together. The thought behind this event is to get an adult the student loves into the school and share some time with their student. The students really look forward to this and is open to any special person in the student’s life; mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, etc. All are welcome and this is a great opportunity for ALL students in Woodstock. I hope to see continued support for this great program. We only have two more for this school year so please plan on coming to the next one. Our next Parents and Pastries is in January 25th. So be sure to mark your calendar and come to school a little early with your student and enjoy a free donut and precious time with your student.

I want to thank all of our volunteers and remind everyone of our mission as a PTA.

The Utah PTA will help EVERY child realize his/her full potential and will:

Advocate - Support and speak on behalf of children and youth.

Involve - Encourage positive involvement in all facets of a child’s life.

Develop - Assist in developing skills to raise and protect children and youth.

We love parent volunteers and would love to meet you if you’re new to the school. If you would like to be more involved with PTA, or in your student’s classroom with the parties or other fun projects please contact Teisa Linscott at [email protected]. We want to make sure we are including all people who want to be involved and sometimes we lose track of those that have expressed interest. Please let us know. WE LOVE VOLUNTEERS!

The next volunteer opportunity is this Thursday. We will be running our Box Top store at lunch from 11-12:30pm. We can use all the help we can get. This is a really fun and busy event and the time flies. Your student will think you’re so cool if they see you passing out the prizes! If you’d like to volunteer for this please contact Kay Forbush at [email protected].

Please reach out to me anytime if you have any concerns or ideas. I would love to chat!

Join the Birthday Book Club and help enrich Woodstock’s Library! To celebrate your child’s birthday, donate money to the PTA to buy a book in honor of your child. We request a donation of $5 for a paperback or $15 for a hardback.

During the month of your child’s birthday, you child will be called to the library to choose from a selection of age-appropriate books. Your child’s name will be put on a sticker inside the book. Your child will be the first to check out his/her birthday book from the school library! Your child will also be recognized on the bulletin board outside the school library!

This program helps the Woodstock library grow with fun and interesting new books for the students. Summer birthdays will be recognized during the school year.

To join the birthday book club, you can sign up and pay with Stefanie in the school’s front office--be sure to tell her your child’s name, teacher, and birthday! You can also sign up on our PTA Website Webstore!

We love celebrating birthdays at Woodstock! Please join us during lunch on

The Harvest Festival was a great success this year! We had a fabulous turnout, and much fun was had by all. A huge thank you to the green team members who helped make it work, to Mabey’s Pumpkin Patch for donating some extra pumpkins, and our volunteer face painter. And a special thank you to those who helped “put the garden to bed” for the winter. We definitely cannot do it without all of you!

We had a great beginning for the year at the September Box Tops Store and the next one is coming up FAST on Thursday November 8th. Hope you saved the Box Tops from all your Halloween treats to bring to the store! Support Team Woodstock when you purchase General Mills products because THEY SUPPORT OUR SCHOOLS!Have you always wanted to know what Box Tops for Education is and how they started? Well hang on to your Halloween Costume because here is a little bit of history!

It all started in California in 1996. General Mills wanted to create a program to help support education and benefit America’s schools - and

so, Box Tops for Education was born. Box Tops were only available initially on Big G cereals such as Cheerios, Total and Lucky Charms. The program was such a huge success that it soon launched on other products such as Pillsbury, Old El Paso and Green Giant. By 2004, over 82,000 schools across the nation participated in Box Tops, earning more than $100 MILLION!!

In 2006, for the first time, non-food brands began to participate. Families could now clip Box Tops from Ziploc, Hefty, Kleenex and Scott products, too. By 2010 schools across the nation had earned over $320 million. Today, America’s schools have earned over $868 million and you can find Box Tops on hundreds of products throughout the grocery store and online.

The Box Tops App for smart phones can be used when shopping and can help you find items on your shopping list that support Box Tops and Bonus Box Tops and also includes coupons and offers! You can link to our school to see our school progress also. Scan receipts with your phone to redeem offers (that is definitely the funnest part!) Thank you Box Tops Volunteers and all the parents, family, and neighbors for all the work you do clipping, saving and sending the Box Tops to school with your child so they can shop! We couldn’t do it without you!

The 5th and 6th graders are participating in the annual Woodstock Veteran’s Day program on Thursday, November 8th. Each student chose a veteran and interviewed them about their time in the service. They then wrote an essay about what they learned. The veterans will be honored with a dinner provided by Hoppers and then treated to a wonderful program put on by the students and their teachers. They have worked very hard to get ready and are excited to perform for the veteran guests. We are grateful to the teachers who the take time to teach the songs and teach the students about our veterans and the heroic way they have given us our freedom. Freedom isn’t free!

Dear parents and families – THANK YOU! I want you all to know how much I appreciate your support of the Woodstock Dash. We raised $11,700.00, which exceeded our goal by more than $2,000.00 ! All of the money raised will stay here at the school and will directly benefit Woodstock students. And, as promised, I smooched with livestock. Guess I can check that off of my bucket list . Open Enrollment 2019-2020 School Year Below is a letter that describes the open enrollment process for Granite School District. If you know anyone that is considering a permit request to Woodstock, please pass this information on to them. Dear Parent/Guardian,Granite School District provides school choice enrollment in all schools where space is available. Parents are responsible for transportation when exercising school choice. This letter explains Granite School District’s Open Enrollment Guidelines; Open Enrollment is necessary for students to attend a school other than their home boundary school. There are two open enrollment periods: Early Open Enrollment and Late Open Enrollment. The Early Open Enrollment period is the recommended time to enroll for the next school year. Late Open Enrollment period is for the current year and may be applied for at any time. Early open enrollment period for the 2019/2020 school year begins on Monday, December 3, 2018 and ends on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Open Enrollment Applications are available at all schools, and are processed in the order received. Students residing within Granite School District boundaries are given priority. Enrollment depends on space available in the requested grade, class, or program. Open Enrollment requests do not require a release from the student’s home school or district. A one-time, non-refundable $5.00 processing fee, payable to the requested school, may be charged at the time the application is submitted. This fee can be waived for qualified applicants. If your student is accepted for Open Enrollment, annual reapplication is not required—as long as the student remains in the same school, and space is available. When a student transitions from elementary school to junior high, or from junior high to high school, there is no automatic feeder system for Open Enrollment; therefore, reapplication is necessary to attend a school outside of the student’s home boundary school. For more detailed information, refer to the back of the Open Enrollment Application or Granite School District’s website: www.graniteschools.org; select Departments>Prevention and Student Placement>Open Enrollment Guidelines.
