We are in need of additional Sunday School teachers for all grades (Kindergarten through 4th grade) for the 2018-2019 school year. Our vision is to have four teach-ers per grade, so that your commitment as a teach-er is only once a month at the very least.

Never taught? No problem. Our curriculum is easy enough and provides ideas for each lesson. Still hes-itant? Scott Miller is always available for questions.

We will have a meeting prior to Fall to review the upcoming curriculum and answer any questions.

Please contact Scott Miller today at [email protected] or (630) 207-5746 to add your name to our Sunday School family!

Check It Out!

Sometimes when the PTA representative drops off the sup-

plies, there will be a pair of underwear on the couch. Some-

times it will not be clean. Sometimes you will say the per-

fect thing to your developing child. Sometimes you will take

the wrong kid to the dentist. "But victory isn't compromised

by individual loses; it is the result of slogging it out season

by season, conversation by conversation, over months and

miles of sweat and blood, and the cumulative total of more

wins than loses secures the role, anchors the majority,

makes the history books." "In this very book . . . I seriously

discuss trauma recovery and abusive churches as well as

Netflix and junior football leagues." Jen Hatmaker's Of Mess

Life will make you laugh; if it makes you cry, it is only be-

cause you are laughing so hard. If you are an occasionally

overwhelmed mom, you will appreciate the companion-

ship; if you are an eternally composed individual, read this

for a peak into the more chaotic American life. Nevermind

the rest of the books, check this one out for FREE and

laugh!

Vacation Bible School Leaders Meeting

There will be a VBS leaders meeting on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m.

Please attend if you are volunteering. We will plan for the week and an-

swer any questions anyone might have.

The Resale Committee is accepting clothing donations the first Sunday of every month.

Thanks for supporting the Resale! In February we donated a total of $2,250 to LYO, VBS and the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. Our Fall Resale will be September 14 and 15.

Summer Safety Reminders From Pastor Anna

As we approach summer, many of our Epiphany members will be traveling on vacation. You don’t have to miss out on weekend church services while traveling. You can visit the ELCA website: http://www.elca.org/tools/FindACongregation and find a local church at which to attend services while traveling. It’s easy: just input the zip code of your location and search. You can get directions to the local church and links to their website. Another option, if you are missing Epiphany is to go online to http://YouTube.EpiphanyElmhurst.org and watch our ser-vices live or catch a replay if you miss the live stream. You may also access our YouTube chan-nel by visiting our homepage at EpiphanyElmhurst.org and clicking the YouTube icon under the “Follow Us” header. Safe travels to all!

Worship and Travel

As summer fun begins, Pastor Anna would like to take this time to re-mind all youth and families to have fun and BE SAFE. When out and about with friends and family, stop and think before acting, especially when around water or pools, campfires, or engaging in other fun out-door activities. Ask yourself: "Am I safe doing this activity? What are the potential consequences of doing this activity, especially if an acci-dent occurs? What is my plan to get home safely? Who can I trust and communicate with to help me with that plan?" Questions like these will keep summer activities fun and avoid dangerous situations and trips to the hospital.

Other safety tips to maximize summer fun:

Wear (and re-apply) sunscreen. According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common kind of cancer, and is caused by too much exposure to the sun without protection, but can be easily prevented with sunscreen and coverage. Make sure you pick sunscreen with a high enough SPF coverage for your needs (probably at least SPF 30).

With love to my church family, I am beyond words for the many blessings I’ve re-ceived and enjoyed. One being the beautiful flowers in the beds I can see as I look out my windows - outstanding. Many thanks for the visits by our pastors and church family.

Love, In Christ,

Bob Sutherland

Thank You

Let’s track our reading this summer as a congregation. Elmhurst Public Library has a great summer reading program. Some schools have assigned summer reading. Lots of adults have a book stack they hope to finish by September, and many people hope to have the time to finish just one book.

All kids and grown-ups are invited to track Epiphany’s read-ing. There is a thermometer on the bulletin board outside the church library and Post-Its on the library desk. Fill them out with the book titles and keep the temperature rising!
