A Letter from Interim Superintendent Joseph Siracuse

Dear Wayne Central Community,

As we enter our second month of remote instruction I am proud of the staff, students and parents at Wayne Central.

As we move forward and adjust learning practices we ask for your patience and understanding just as we recognize that we must be patient with our students and families as well. All we can ask is for you to do your best. If you need help, please reach

out to us. Whether it is providing technology, academic help or mental health supports we are here for you.

Thank you so much for participating in our Spirit Week! I enjoyed seeing pictures of our students learning from home and showing their school pride. It brings a smile to my face.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to our administrative support team today. They have been working behind the scenes around the clock to keep things running smoothly. Happy Administrative Professionals’ Day!

In this newsletter you will find additional information regarding food assistance, transportation, the census, yearbooks and our high school honor roll recipients.

Once again, thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility during this unprecedented time. We will get through this together. Please continue to stay safe, practice social distancing, and remain at home as much as possible.

Sincerely,

Joseph SiracuseJoseph Siracuse Interim Superintendent of Schools

SNAP Assistance

If you or someone you know has lost work or is over 60 years old and needs assistance buying food SNAP can help.

SNAP provides monthly benefits to spend at local grocery stores. You can get and use SNAP while keeping a safe distance from other people:

• Everything you need to do to apply for and receive benefits can be done by phone or online - no need to visit a local social service office.

• Use SNAP to purchase food at local grocery stores. You can choose an “authorized representative” to shop for you.

• Shop for food online using SNAP benefits and have groceries delivered or picked up.

- Amazon.com – available statewide

- Walmart and ShopRite – available in some zip codes (see their websites)

Help is available:

If you need help applying for SNAP, call or email a Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) Coordinator. NOEP Coordinators tell you if you may be eligible for SNAP, answer your questions, and help you complete and submit your application. It is free and confidential.

Apply for SNAP online at www.MyBenefits.ny.gov or contact your local NOEP Coordinator: Tami Sprague

2020 Census

High School and Middle School YearbooksHigh school and middle school yearbooks have been submitted by the schools and are

currently being printed. All pre-orders will be fulfilled. If there are extra yearbooks after pre-ordered books have been distributed they will be available for purchase at a later date. Schools will send updates once the books have been received from the printer. Thank you!

Have you filled out your 2020 Census form yet? If not, please take a moment to either mail your form in or fill out the online form at 2020census.gov.

Results from the Census will help as decisions are made about allocating hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding to communities across the country. That includes funding support for school programs and services such as:

• Special education

• Free and reduced-priced lunch

• Classroom technology

• Teacher training

• After-school programs

• Head Start

This federal funding also supports services that influence a student’s readiness for learning, as well as housing, heating and food assistance.
