IHEA 2002 Annual Meeting toInclude Two Sessions on TechnologyContract IssuesIHEA’s 2002 Annual Meeting will be held March 17-21, 2002,at the Westin, St. John, USVI. A program developed for themeeting by the IHEA Program Planning Committee willinclude the traditional business reports; two professionalpresentations, one on contracts and the other on futureplanning; and a forum session on the future of the thermalprocessing industry and non-traditional marketing.

David Pearce Snyder, lifestyles editor of the Futuristmagazine and former consultant to the Rand Corporation,will provide the attendees with a stimulating look at thefuture, telling it “the way it is” or “what it will be.” Mr.Snyder, who uses a network of scanners and scholars totrack social, economic and technical trends anddevelopments throughout the U.S. and the world, servescompanies by providing essential data on how to deal withchange. He presents timely, accurate information about thedemographic, economic and technological realities thatdominate organizational operating environments.

F. Elgin Ward, B.A., J.D., Senior Associate and co-founder ofAlta Seminars and practicing attorney with an emphasis incorporate law, contracts, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)transactions, real estate, and other areas of commercialbusiness law, will conduct two important morning sessionsduring the meeting dealing with critical issues of contracts.

Areas of discussion will include: limitation of liabilities;Force Majeure after September 11; securing performances;avoiding litigation; demystifying litigation; understandingand dealing with insurance; recognizing and understand-ing contract language to make forms prevail; what kindsand amounts of damages can be collected from defaults;

Mr. Mario Ciampini was elected President of theIndustrial Heating Equipment Association for

the year 2002 during a meeting of the IHEA Board ofDirectors held October 19, 2001, in Arlington,Virginia. Mr. Ciampini officially takes office at theIHEA Board of Directors meeting to be held March17, 2002, during the Association’s Annual Meeting inSt. John, U.S.V.I.

Mr. Ciampini currently serves as the First VicePresident of IHEA and is a member of the IHEABoard of Directors and Executive Committee. He isalso a member of IHEA’s Government RelationsCommittee and has served on the Association’sOperational Information Committee. As President ofIHEA, Mr. Ciampini will serve as Chairman of theBoard of Directors and Executive Committee.

Mr. Ciampini isPresident and CEO ofIpsen International, Inc.,Rockford, Illinois. Inaddition, Mr. Ciampiniis President of Linac Holdings, Inc., a member of theBoard of Directors for LOI, Inc., and Chairman of theBoard of Hauck Manufacturing Company. He hasalso held the Vice President of Finance position withTI Group (London, U.K.), and key financialmanagement positions with General Tire andGeneral Electric Corporation.

The four-day meetingincludes officers reports,business sessions,workshops andpresentations on businesstopics by guest speakers.

IHEA Business Outlook for 2002Fourteen IHEA member companies participated in theBusiness Forecast Survey conducted annually by theAssociation. Of the companies reporting, eight companiesare looking to increased order activity in the year 2002.Three companies see their business to be the same andthree others are looking at a decrease in their orders fromthe year 2001.

As for the overall industry, five companies are predictingorders will be greater in 2002. Five other companies see nochange in 2002 over 2001. Only three companies believeindustry orders for the year 2002 will be below 2001 activity.

The industries cited as the most probable to increaseorders in 2002 included: automotive, heat treating,fabricated metal parts, iron and steel, aluminum, andaircraft. Of the participating companies surveyed, tenbelieve the major concern in 2002 will be the economy,followed by capital equipment spending and changestaking place in customer buying practices. �

John Cole Elected 2002IHEA First Vice PresidentMr. John M. Cole, P.E. was electedFirst Vice President of the IndustrialHeating Equipment Associationduring a meeting of the IHEA Boardof Directors held October 19, 2001,in Arlington, Virginia. Mr. Coleofficially takes office at the IHEABoard of Directors meeting to beheld March 17, 2002, during IHEA’sAnnual Meeting in St. John, U.S.V.I. Mr. Cole will serve onthe Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He willalso serve as Chairman of the Association’s Long RangePlanning Committee.

Mr. Cole is currently a member of the IHEA Board ofDirectors and Executive Committee. He has been an activemember of the IHEA Program Planning Committee since1985, serving as Chairman in 1988. He has served on theSafety Standards and Codes Committee as well as theMembership Committee.

Mr. Cole is Vice President, Engineering and Development,Kolene Corporation, Detroit, Michigan. He is also amember of the Kolene Board of Directors. Prior to hiscurrent position, which he assumed in 1988, he served asChief Engineer and has held various other positions withinthe company dating back to 1972.

Mr. Cole has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial andSystems Engineering from the University of Michigan. He isa Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michiganand has received their PEI Outstanding Engineering Awardin 1994 and the Detroit Metro Chapters Engineer of theYear Award also in 1994.

George Paulonis Elected 2002 IHEASecond Vice PresidentMr. George J. Paulonis was electedSecond Vice President of theIndustrial Heating EquipmentAssociation during a meeting of the IHEA Board of Directors heldOctober 19, 2001, in Arlington,Virginia. Mr. Paulonis officially takes office at the IHEA Board of Directors meeting to beheld March 17, 2002, during IHEA’s Annual Meeting in St. John, U.S.V.I.

Mr. Paulonis currently serves on the IHEA Board ofDirectors and Executive Committee and is an activemember of the Safety Standards and Codes Committee,serving on the committee since 1992. He is involved in sub-committee meetings discussing changes to the NFPA86 standards and is involved in the preparation of the sixthedition of IHEA’s Combustion Manual. He was Chairman ofthe IHEA Combustion Division in 1999, member of theMembership and Educational Committees in 1999 and2000, and Chairman of the Nominating Committee in 2000and 2001.

Mr. Paulonis is President of Kromschroder Inc., Hudson,Ohio, holding the position since the formation of thecompany in 1992. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree inMechanical Engineering from Drexel Institute ofTechnology.

Bradley Andreae Elected 2002 IHEATreasurerMr. Bradley M. Andreae was electedto serve as Treasurer of theIndustrial Heating EquipmentAssociation for the year 2002 duringa meeting of the IHEA Board ofDirectors held October 19, 2001, inArlington, Virginia. Mr. Andreaeofficially takes office for the year 2002 at the IHEA Board ofDirectors meeting to be held March 17, 2002, during theAssociation’s Annual Meeting in St. John, U.S.V.I. Mr.Andreae will serve on the IHEA Board of Directors andExecutive Committee and Chair the Association’s FinanceCommittee.

Mr. Andreae currently serves as a member of the IHEABoard of Directors and Executive Committee. He alsoserves on the Association’s Government RelationsCommittee. He served as Chairman of the IHEA OvenDivision in 1998-1999, participated as a speaker for theAssociation’s Heat Processing Seminars and was involved inthe writing of IHEA’s Heat Processing manual.

Mr. Andreae is Executive Vice President of Therma-Tron-X,Inc., Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He joined the company in1972. He has a Technical Degree in Industrial Engineeringand Internal Combustion Engines from the MilwaukeeSchool of Engineering.

IHEA’s Fall Business Conference was held October 18, 2001,at the Hyatt Arlington, Arlington, Virginia. Thirty-eightIHEA representatives from twenty-nine membercompanies attended the meeting.

In addition to Committee Meetings held in the morning,the program included a General Session in the afternoonfeaturing Committee Chairmen reports and presentations.Donald Elias, a principal with RTP EnvironmentalAssociates, briefed the attendees on the EPA StateEmissions Trading Programs. Kevin Carlisle, Karl Dungs,Inc., reported on the current status of IHEA/CECOFCrossmap of NFPA 86 and EN 746.2 Standards Project. Ted

Jablkowski, North American Manufacturing Company,reported on the IHEA Safety Committees proposed changesto the NFPA 86 Standards. Mario Ciampini, IpsenInternational, Inc., reported on developments of IHEA’spartnership with the Department of Energy, Office ofIndustrial Technologies. David Goch, Webster, Chamberlainand Bean, Legal Counsel, discussed some legislative andregulatory issues.

The evening program was highlighted with dinner at theKennedy Center, Washington, DC, Roof Top Terracerestaurant. �

Changes to NFPA 86 StandardsSubmitted by IHEAThe Industrial Heating Equipment Association has officiallysubmitted to the National Fire Protection Associationtwenty-four proposed changes to the NFPA 86 SeriesStandards for Furnaces and Ovens. The changes wererecommended after an extensive review of the standards bya special sub-committee, chaired by Ted Jablkowski, NorthAmerican Manufacturing Company, and IHEA’srepresentative to NFPA’s 86 Standards Committee. Theproposals were further reviewed by IHEA’s Safety Standardsand Codes Committee at a committee meeting convenedduring IHEA’s Fall Business Conference. Tom Myers, Ph.D,Despatch Industries, L.P., is Chairman of IHEA’s SafetyStandards and Codes Committee.

The changes basically focus on Proof of Closure and LeakTesting for safety shut-off valves, oil-fired equipment,interposing relays in safety circuitry, isolation valves,contamination protection, and other miscellaneous topics.The changes appear on IHEA’s website. �

Thirty-Six Participated in 2001 IHEA Combustion SeminarIHEA’s thirty-sixth Combustion Technology Seminar washeld October 1-2, 2001, at the Chicago O’Hare Marriott,Chicago, Illinois.

Thirty-six representatives from twenty-four companiesattended the meeting in Chicago. learning or better understanding what provisions toinclude in a contract to ensure enforceable and meaningfulremedies; and much more.

The final General Session will be an open forum on “Whatthe Future Holds For The Heat Processing Industry” and“Non-Traditional Marketing.” The session will allow theattendees an opportunity to activelypresent views and learn from othersin a give-and-take environment.

The meeting is being held at theWestin Resort in St. John, GreatCruz Bay, located adjacent to theVirgin Islands National Park andthirty-five minutes from St. ThomasInternational Airport.

IHEA Seminar on Safety Standards Set for May 6-7, 2002

IHEA’s 2002 seminar on the NFPA Furnace and OvenStandards will be held May 6-7, 2002, at the ChicagoMarriott O’Hare, Chicago, Illinois. The seminar, developedby IHEA’s Safety and Standards Committee, provides anopportunity for company personnel to gain a betterunderstanding of the NFPA Safety Standards covering thewide variety of industrial heat processing equipment in usetoday.

The seminar will include some discussion on proposedchanges to the NFPA 86 Standards presented to the NFPATechnical Committee on Ovens and Furnaces. The newedition of the NFPA 86 Standards is scheduled for late 2003.

Seminar fee includes tuition; seminar materials; copies ofthe NFPA 86, 86C, and 86D Standards; certificate; receptionand two luncheons. �

Gary Salerno Featured in Pilots’ MagazineGary Salerno, President, Steeltech, Ltd., was recentlyfeatured (cover story) in Twin & Turbine, an exclusivemagazine for pilots of Owner-Flown, Cabin Class Airplanes.Gary was pictured on the cover with his aircraft, Cessna414, Cessna 172 and Bell 206 JetRanger Helicopter.

Gary, an ATP-qualified owner-pilot with amultitude of ratings, including commercial,instrument, multi-engine, CFII, seaplaneand commercial rotorcraft, has made acareer out of pursuing success both inbusiness and in the air. He is the owner andCEO of Steeltech, Ltd., a world-classproducer of superior heat-resistantproducts for international and domesticsteel producers. He also owns a Wisconsinbased company, Advanced Centrifugals,which manufactures high-temperaturealloys.

The company Cessnas are used regularly totransport management personnel betweenthe two plants located in Michigan andWisconsin, and also provide on-site 24hour customer service support. The Bell206 JetRanger Helicopter is used forbusiness operations but may also be seenin the sky covering news events or

providing helicopter rides to help generate money forWings of Mercy a charitable organization for children.

Steeltech, Ltd., is a long time member company of IHEA.Gary actively serves on IHEA Committees and has been amember of IHEA’s Board of Directors. �

Drever Group Names President and General ManagerJean-Marc Raick has been named President of the DreverGroup, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. Mr. Raick hasbeen the Managing Director of Drever International, basedin Liege, Belgium, for the last five years, and will retainthese duties. He has been with the Drever Group for manyyears in various engineering and management positions.

John G. Stedge has been appointed General Manager ofDrever Company, responsible for all North AmericanOperations. Mr. Stedge started with Drever in 1989 andworked in Sales and Project Management before beingGeneral Manager-Production, responsible for ProjectManagement, Engineering, Purchasing and Manufacturing,Quality and IT.

Drever, a long time member of IHEA, designs andmanufactures industrial furnaces. �

Hauck Manufacturing CompanyReceives Pennsylvania State AwardHauck Manufacturing Company, Lebanon, Pennsylvania,was recently honored as one of the top 50 Best Places toWork in Pennsylvania. The award is the first of its kind to beoffered by a state. Ranking was based on a scoring processthat considered company responses to a questionnaireregarding corporate philosophies, practices and systems,and employee responses to a survey that covered subjectsas benefits, working conditions, and growth opportunities.

Hauck Manufacturing Company, a long time member of IHEA, is a full service combustion engineering andmanufacturing company. Dr. Louis Etschmaier is Presidentand CEO of Hauck. �

Orders for First Three Quartersof 2001 DownTotal domestic and foreign orders for industrial heatingequipment, as reported by participating IHEA membercompanies, for the first three quarters of 2001, totaled$306.05 million, a decrease of 9 percent from ordersreported for the same period in 2000.

Domestic orders for all industrial heating equipment for the three quarters of 2001 totaled $245.60 million, adecrease of 12 percent from the previous year. Foreignorders for the period were $60.45 million, up 7 percent.

Domestic orders for industrial furnaces and ovens onlyreached $76.17 million, down 32 percent from last year.Other domestic equipment orders, including atmospheregenerating equipment, process control systems, industrial

combustion equipment, replacement parts, and othermiscellaneous equipment totaled $171.85 million for thethree quarters, up 2 percent from 2000.

Total domestic and foreign orders for industrial heatingequipment, as reported by 20 members, for the thirdquarter of 2006 totaled $108.61 million, down 3 percentfrom orders reported for the same period last year. �

2000 U.S. Exports/ImportsUnited States exports of industrial furnaces and ovens forthe year 2000, as reported by the U.S. Department ofCommerce, reached $1.17 billion up 43 percent from 1999when exports totaled $816.94 million. Imports of industrialfurnaces and ovens in 2000 totaled $536.55 million up 41percent from 1999 imports of $379.48 million.
