Overview – SSHRC Grants

Connections Grant (1 year max. $50,000) events and outreach activities toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. Events – face to face or virtual interactions Outreach - adaptation of texts (translations): dev. of policy briefs, knowledge syntheses and scoping reviews; dev. of articles for publication in newspapers or magazines; virtual networking; media events; public debates; artistic exhibits, performances or festivals; dev./use of interactive technologies, audio-visual products or software; and/or development/use of educational aids, instruments or equipment.

Must Know - duration of 1 year, 1 project per appl. and co-appl. per year, 50% matching (LOS required), $1million per year budget

Partnership Development Grant (1 – 3 years; $75,000 - 200,000) develop, design and test partnership approaches in research and or related activities in the social sciences and humanities.Must Know •Meant for ‘formal partners’ – evidence required to access quality and level of commitment•May fund ‘existing’ or ‘new’ partnerships•Approaches could be disciplinary, interdisciplinary, cross sector, networks,•Salaried research allowance available for not-for profits•Cash & In-Kind support expected

Overview – SSHRC Grants Partnership Grant (4 – 6 years; $500,000 – 2,500,000) support formal research teams in partnerships to conduct collaborative research to achieve shared goals for mutual benefit.Additional Must Knows •Two stage application process – LOI & Full application•Supports partnered research training such as internships, co-op, community services learning, professional skills workshops, employment outreach – Talent Program •Approaches could also be partnered chairs & research centres•Cash & In-Kind support mandatory – 35%•2 levels of review for full application – Expert & Multi-Disciplinary

Overview – SSHRC Grants Insight Development Grant (1 – 2 years; $7,000 - 75,000) support research in its initial stages such as the development of new research questions, and experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas.Must Know •Uses CCV & Research Community Portal•Emerging & Established scholar categories•No external assessors used – committee review only

Insight Grant (3 – 5 years; $7,000 - 500,000) provides stable support for long-term research initiatives to advancing knowledge and research excellence in the social sciences & humanities,.

Must Knows •mandatory registration •No emerging vs. established scholar categories•Uses SSHRC CV & SSHRC online system•External assessors plus group/committee review•5 research Groups – Education in group 5

Overview – Insight Grant Competition

Evaluation & AdjudicationBasics• SSHRC’s target is a minimum of 2 external

assessors/evaluators (consider their input as ‘advisory only’. Adjudication committee has final say).

• 5 main Research Adjudication Groups split into Committees based on number of applications

• Application adjudicated by committee of your primary discipline
