SEAT inspection and maintenance service6

SEAT inspection and maintenance service

Prologue

General observations

For assistance with your vehicle, you can rely on one of the most extensive and efficient service networks.

The SEAT Authorised Service Centres employ the most modern workshop tools and equipment, as well as trained specialists and a wide range of spare parts.

Each SEAT Authorized Service Centre is run using the most advanced stand-ards, the practical value of which have been demonstrated in manufacture.

SEAT has worked thoroughly and made every effort to ensure that the design of every new vehicle employs the benefits of its research into the levels of safety, reliability and resistance that are demanded.

Many SEAT Authorised Service Centres also offer different services at favour-able rates.

To inform you of the jobs that are required before each service, there is a diag-nosis carried out via an inspection, which will give information on the amount of maintenance work that is required.

In this way, you can know the cost (in material and labour) that is involved in the work which has been indicated, because each Inspection and Mainte-nance Service, as well as each operation to be undertaken has an established time which you will be invoiced for.

This also allows you to know when the work will be finished, or when the vehicle will be ready for delivery. In order to maintain this quality, it is impor-tant that the vehicle is inspected regularly by an Authorised Service Centre.

Importance of the inspection and maintenance plan

The inspection and maintenance plan is also the proof of the delivery date, and so indicates the period when your vehicle guarantee begins.

Through the vehicle data indicated in this manual, it is guaranteed that the vehicle is fitted with the correct spare parts, and thus ensuring that repairing the vehicle will not present any problem, no matter how much time has passed.

This inspection and maintenance plan will also indicate which services and jobs need to be done in any given time.

The proof of service is one of the requirements to maintain the validity of the guarantee.

It is a good idea to keep the inspection and maintenance plan together with the vehicle documents, so that it is always available

If the vehicle is sold, the inspection and maintenance plan should be passed on to the new owner.

Service intervals

To ensure that the appropriate services are carried out on time, we recom-mend that a sticker be placed on the door pillar, and the service interval indi-cator on the instrument panel. Besides this, you can check the dates of the next service by consulting the corresponding boxes in this manual ⇒ page 17.

The intervals indicated refer to normal service conditions.

s11g.book Seite 6 Montag, 9. Mai 2005 8:41 08

Page 9: inspection and maintenance plan

SEAT inspection and maintenance service 7

Under adverse circumstances some jobs will be required between these inter-vals.

This is especially true of changing the engine oil, when the vehicle is constantly used for short journeys or the temperatures are very low; similarly, the cleaning or substitution of the cartridge of the air filter, the pollen and dust filter and the checking and changing of the drive belt when the vehicle is used in areas with a lot of dust.

If you use biodiesel fuel or fuel which does not meet the DIN EN 590 standard, you will have to clean the fuel filter every 15,000 km, and substitute it at 30,000 km.

Some countries use diesel fuel with a high sulphur content In these cases, an oil change will be required after 7,500 km The Authorised Service Centre will inform you which countries use fuel with a high sulphur content.

The person responsible for the Authorised Service Centre will inform you of the need to carry out these jobs between the normal service interval, taking the conditions of use of the vehicle into consideration.

On the following pages, we have compiled information on what is necessary in each programmed inspection service The jobs that are listed are appro-priate for the technical requirements at the time of printing. Therefore, they may be modified hereafter for technical reasons.

Your Authorised Service Centre will inform you on this point, as well as any need for additional services, and any work required by law.

Your Authorised Service Centre will inform you of the cost (material and labour) for each of the inspection and maintenance services contained in this plan.

Caution• Vehicles bearing the sticker “NOT SUITABLE FOR BIODIESEL” on the fuel cap, cannot use biodiesel fuel.

• Consult an Authorised Service Centre for reliable information on the possibility of using biodiesel, in accordance with DIN EN 14214 (FAME).

General programme

Intervals

These intervals are for vehicles with service according to age or mileage.

WARNING

Intense use of the brakes can lead to deterioration of the brake fluid caused by vapour bubbles. Brake failure may result.

• For this reason, the brake fluid service must be carried out every 2 years.

• Only use authorised brake fluid.

• Changing the brake fluid at longer intervals increases the risk of an accident.

Additional service offers

Legal inspection service

Legal inspections must be carried out in the stipulated periods.

Many countries have legal requirements for regular vehicle checks concerning safety issues for road use and the composition of exhaust gases. These checks must be supervised by authorised centres.

Your Authorised Service Centre can inform you of the mandatory legal inspec-tions and can check whether your vehicle meets the required standards. This will save you time and money.

Your Authorised Service Centre can carry out the required inspections, at the clients request.

Even if you decide not to use this service, and you wish to take your car to be checked in an authorised centre, it is advisable to inform the head of your Authorised Service Centre.

He will inform you of the aspects to consider, to avoid problems and so the obligation to repeat the inspection.

Official Spare Parts

All the parts of the vehicle have been authorised by SEAT, especially those related to safety. For this reason, the spare parts used in the programmed inspection service and any repairs to the vehicle should match the manufac-turer's specifications exactly. The authorised spare parts have been designed exclusively for your vehicle. We recommend that you always use official spare parts.

The SEAT authorised Service Centres have the most important official spare parts. If for extraordinary circumstances a part is not available, in general it can be supplied quickly in most cases.

The SEAT Authorised Service Centres within the EU apply a 24 month guar-antee4) to official spare parts from the moment of fitting or sale. For this reason, the invoice from your Authorised Service Centre should be kept as proof of the starting date of the guarantee.

Ask your Authorised Service Centre for more details.

Official Replacements

Official replacements, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, are another service at your disposal, offering the possibility of replacing complete sections, the most common being: lighter engines, gearboxes, cylinder heads, control units, electrical parts, etc.

These parts are, naturally Approved Parts and, as such enjoy the same guar-antee as the factory parts.

However, their price is far lower, because the factory takes used parts and reconditions them. Keep the invoice for the official replacements as proof of the start of the guarantee period.

Ask your Authorised Service Centre for more details.

4) This guarantee does not apply to all export markets. Ask your Authorised Service Cen-tre for further information

s11g.book Seite 14 Montag, 9. Mai 2005 8:41 08

Original Accessories

We recommend that you only use original and authorised accessories.

If you wish to equip your vehicle with accessories, you should bear in mind the following:

We recommend only fitting authorised accessories, and those accessories approved by SEAT.

The Authorised Service Centres apply a guarantee to original accessories, effective from the date of fitting or purchase. For this reason, the invoice from your Authorised Service Centre should be kept as proof of the starting date of the guarantee.

Ask your Authorised Service Centre for more details.

The Accessory Service also includes assessment from qualified personnel, professional fitting, if requested.

The Authorised Service Centres also stock the materials necessary for caring for the vehicle, as well as those parts subjected to wear, such as tyres, batteries and lamps.

Bodywork and paint service

SEAT vehicles are designed so that, in the case of damage to the bodywork, only the parts directly affected need be replaced and repainted.

Both operations can be done according to the manufacturer's specifications, which is essential for the maintenance of the bodywork and paint guarantee.

s11g.book Seite 15 Montag, 9. Mai 2005 8:41 08

Guarantee

Fault free guarantee

In accordance with the guarantees applicable to SEAT vehicles contained in the purchasing contract, from the date of purchase a 2-Year Fault Free Guar-antee, in accordance with legal requirements5)6) is applied.

Natural wear, and damage caused by abuse of the vehicle's performance, inappropriate use, or incorrect modifications excluded from this guarantee. The rights to the guarantee are lost also when damage is caused to the vehicle by the use of unauthorized parts or accessories which are not SEAT approved, or when damage is due to non-observance of the requirements for repairs and maintenance.

Bodywork and paint guarantee

Authorised Service Centres offer a bodywork and paint guar-antee fro vehicles sold in the EU.

As a complement to the guarantee clauses applicable to new SEAT vehicles in the purchase contract, a guarantee is also offered to cover paintwork and rust damage to the bodywork for a specified period.

• 3 years from the delivery date for paintwork (except the Alhambra model)

• 12 years from the delivery date for corrosion of the bodywork through rust (6 years for the Alhambra)

Should said damage occur, any Authorised Service Centre in the EU will take charge of repairs without any charge for either labour or materials.

This guarantee does not apply when

• said damage is caused by external agents, or inadequate care of the vehicle, or

• if any damage to the bodywork has not been repaired in time, or in a professional manner, or in accordance with the requirements of the manufac-turer, using approved parts and materials, or

• if the corrosion damage is due to the use of parts and materials which are not approved or original, and the manufacturer's instructions for bodywork repairs have not been followed

Once the repairs to the bodywork or paintwork have been carried out, the Authorised Service Centre will certify the guarantee covering corrosion in the affected areas.

5) This guarantee does not apply to all export markets. Ask your Authorised Service Cen-tre for further information

6) SEAT offers a supplementary guarantee to its clients in some European countries, inaddition to its ordinary guarantee. The conditions of this guarantee complementthose contained in the vehicle purchase contract
