The art of sewing in three new dimensions: BERNINA DesignWorks lets your true artist shine thanks in part to your multi-talented embroidery machine. The BERNINA DesignWorks Software Suite consists of three modules: CutWork, which can cut, PaintWork, which can paint, and CrystalWork, which can create decorations from rhinestones. The software allows you to edit images on a PC or design them yourself. With the appropriate tools, your embroidery machine implements everything. All you have to do is decorate in your own style to enjoy creations that make you shine.

The software modules are available individually or as a package. The tools are not part of the software and can be purchased separately. Find out more about the BERNINA DesignWorks Software Suite and enjoy free downloads at www.bernina.com/DesignWorks.

Spring is just around the corner: the rst buds are bursting into bloom, and every day we see something new outside. And of course there are also plenty of new goodies for you to discover in this issue of Inspiration!

From a sporty out t in harmonious shades of cappuccino to a bright and colourful miniskirt, once again you’ll nd everything a gal could need for the new season. We’ve tailored some comfortably cut trousers in heavy jersey to complement our boxy jacket in a stylish coated colour-gradient fabric – suitable for wearing right now. As is our romantic, biker-style coat. You can leave yourself a bit more time to make our miniskirt with matching shirt-blouse – ideal for slightly warmer weather.

Since spring usually comes with its fair share of rain and kids like to play outdoors, we have a gorgeous raincoat for the little ones, also made from coated fabric.

The Easter Bunny is also putting in a seasonal appearance, and showing his best side. His portrait is featured on the table runner, while his smaller sidekicks will make sure that everyone’s sitting in the proper place.

In addition to little presents which you may be tempted to hang onto yourself, there are also other items to smarten up your home. Have a look inside and let yourself be surprised!

Wishing you hours of enjoyment browsing and creating,

Your Editorial Team and Claudia Giesser, Editor-in-Chief

The return of a classic! The boxy jacket is once more taking the catwalk by storm – and the materials currently used are more

stylish than ever.

5510 JacketThe graduated-colour pleather harmonises perfectly with the boxy cut of the jacket.

The slight crinkle look of the seams goes with the futuristic fabric. We de nitely recommend

taking the nished paper pattern with you when buying this fabric, however, since the

pattern repeat gobbles up a fair amount of material.

5511 TrousersThe curved yoke line of the jacket is repeated in the casually styled trousers. The shirred legs

are a further trendy eyecatcher which can easily be left off if you don’t fancy them.

Colours you could bite into! Melon is the new season’s pink –

gorgeous in combination with white.

5513 Shirt-blouseThe cheerful colour combination of the

shirt coordinates perfectly with the owers on the skirt. The lengthways vanilla-

coloured facings of the straight-cut shirt ensure a slim silhouette.

5514 SkirtThis slimline skirt is constructed without

a waistband, so it doesn’t look bulky under the shirt. Its stretch component makes

it really comfortable to wear, whilst cheeky zips give more freedom of movement

for your legs if needed.

Subtle, stylish colours in unexpected combinations lend a brand-new touch to your table at Easter.

5530 Table runnerAppliquéd bunnies and hemstitching grace this simple table runner. Those with a computerised embroidery machine can of course have it embroider the rabbits. Here, instead of simply sewing together the squares, we’ve used the Spanish hemstitch attachment to produce the decorative joining seams in no time at.

5531 Little basketThese little baskets are so versatile. Use rst as place cards with a little welcoming gift, then as a decora-tion on the traditional Easter tree, or as a little present, or even as a planter – there are oodles of fun uses to which they can be put.

5532 “Happy Easter” letteringHere, the BERNINA CutWork Software’s wide range of outlines are shown off to particularly good advantage. Several layers of fabric are rst auto-matically sewn together, then cut out.

Living

Because a gal can never have too much jewellery, she sometimes loses track of her baubles. Never fear, though – our stylish organiser will quickly bring order to chaos.

5535 Jewellery organiserA wedge frame forms the support structure for this charming chain holder. We used the Border Embroidery Set to create a suitable frame which was further highlighed by the shiny viscose cord. DIY experience an advantage here!

5536 Odds-and-ends holderThis organiser for bracelets, earrings and other items of jewellery was designed in the same look as model 5535. The holder for the earrings or clip-ons was simply threaded through the wire. The frame gets its sturdiness from additional struts on the back.

5537 CaddyThis caddy would make a suitable ornament on any console table. Decovil ironed onto the fabric lends it sturdiness.

5538 Clothes hookMatching clothes hooks lend the perfect nishing touch to your dressing room. Simply use old ones and cover them to look brand-new. Screw caps help you achieve the right shape.

A li t t le spring presentGiving

Tip for chequered ower: You’ll nd that the embroidery software speeds things up considerably – simply digitise the petals and hoop 2 layers of fabric right-sides-together without stabiliser. Embroider with normal sewing thread. Perfect for batch production!

Let owers do the talking! Then, whatever unseasonably wintry weather still looms outside, it’s already springtime indoors. Whether they’re to give away or destined for your own window sill, all you need are some fabric remnants and a

bit of imagination to get these owers blooming.

5545 Chequered owerThe highlight of this ower is its centre. The

chequer pattern was sewn with variegated thread and the triple straightstitch. Using the Circular

Embroidery Attachment ensures that your centre also comes out entirely round, while the Tailor-tack foot practically sews the fringe by itself.

5546 Pintuck owerYou’ll also be able to create very pretty petals

with the Pintuck and decorative-stitch foot with clear sole no. 46C.

5547 Bluebeard owerWhat looks really complicated here can be sewn quickly in a single go, and then you can cut the

fringe fabric into three pieces and sew the petals.

5548 Red owerHere, a single decorative stitch lls up an entire

petal! The BERNINA 830’s sideway-motion pattern makes this possible.

5549 CactusThe cheeky thorns consist of a sewn-on cord. The cord is couched particularly evenly if you

pre- program the number of stitches.

5550 Pleated coverThese pretty covers can be created almost effort-

lessly with the embroidery module. Those who can’t embroider will nd the template for sewing

it themselves on the pattern sheet.
