    really caught my eye with its un and

    estive style and tongue in cheek humour.

    The Christmas is a time or giving big hints

    message is quirky, un and enables you to

    interact with the email. Even better or

    Mini, the email also gets customers talking

    about Mini products with loved ones at a

    key time o year.

    The interactive nature o the email is a

    clever way to showcase the Mini Christmas

    products and land them in as many inboxes

    as possible. Using humour and a riendly,

    12 days o Christmas, and thought it

    was lovely. The design is simple and clean,

    with estive colours that look classy and

    elegant. I think the dates with the scribbled

    out eect is really striking and creates a

    strong sense o urgency. But what makes

    this email really special is that the

    animated gi sparkles, which really adds

    another dimension to this estive email.

    really enhances the concept.

    A cool twist on the traditional Christmas

    git guide. Rather than the bog-standard

    line, Selridges uses smart copy to group

    the product selection into characters.

    So rather than gits or her, gits or him

    and so on, youre told what to get or

    your avourite luxe-loving Uptown Girl

    or style-savvy Mr Fashion-Forward, to

    name but two.

    There are no prices o course, because

    price is irrelevant. A git rom Selridges

    says I know what you want and to hell

    with the cost. Its the ultimate present,

    and this email points you in the right

    direction perectly.

    For a company ounded rom a market stall in Leeds

    well over a century ago, M&S have lost none o their

    street trading skills when it comes email marketing.

    Scantily clad women, mouth-watering estive ood and

    dozens o great oers make this email extremely

    eective in engaging recipients to the very bottom, as

    our eyetracking heatmap clearly shows. Christmas 2011

    will go down as one o the toughest or decades or

    many UK retailers, and M&S respond here with typi cal

    proessionalism, making great use o eye contact,

    and a rich variety o content designed to elicit a strong

    click rate.

    I particularly like the way M&S use extra navigation and

    explicit calls to action throughout the email. For

    to action. This email combines good design structure,

    tempting money-saving oers and great copy to create

    introducing their advent calendar, and is

    a great example o using a combination

    o intriguing estive copy combined with

    great integration o social media. Each

    day you open a door o the advent

    calendar and you get an oer rom

    Whistles. On Day 2 the Bubble spot

    dress was on oer, the number o likes it

    had on Facebook dictated how much o a

    discount would be available! The more

    likes, the more you get o the dress!

    This email scored really highly in one o our

    recent eye-tracking studies, and it incorporates

    several very eective techniques. I would

    generally advise against using the whole o the

    opening screen or an image theres a high

    risk that recipients wont be drawn down the

    email but in this case it works well. By

    numerically reerencing each product in an

    inviting kitchen table shot, the reader is enticed

    down to ind out more. The shallow depth o

    ield and diagonal placing o the key products

    draws the eye and creates engagement.

    While our studies generally show that non-linear

    design structures work better that the

    rectangular approach taken here, momentum is

    maintained by the changes o background and

    unusual, intriguing products eatured. As can be

    seen rom the heatmap, high levels o at tention

    are sustained throughout the email.

    in. Money is tight or many people and

    Halords recognise just that and make

    no apologies or being down and dirty

    in design and styling. In total there are

    around 30 oer-driven messages which

    range rom time sensitive oers creating

    a sense o urgency, product price cuts

    detailing percentage discounts and bundle

    deals with up to 50% o.

    It may not be the prettiest email Ive ever

    seen but it certainly does a good, solid

    job in ensuring that their customers and

    prospects know where to go or a good

    Christmas deal!

    I was initially drawn to this email because

    o its very timely oer: a 20 voucher

    when you spend 200. However, it wasnt

    until I clicked through and took part in

    this emails Guess the Git competition

    that I truly ell in love with it.

    The Guess the Git competition is

    basically a series o videos where kids

    described gits and you had to guess

    rom a choice o options what they were.

    The idea was cute, charming and, most

    impressively, able to take me back tohow I elt about Christmas when I was

    little. What was also very clever about

    this competition was how it gave me

    lots o great ideas as to what Christmas

    gits I should be buying.

    Both clever and i nspiring. Well done

    urgently running up to Christmas this

    suite o Festive Tips rom The Trainline,

    which started appearing in my inbox

    rom late October, was one o the most

    eective I received.

    Maintaining a strong and single-minded

    ocus in each communication, the theme

    that Trainline could help me with my

    Christmas travel arrangements comes

    across very powerully. Simple, consistent

    navigation and quirky design relective

    o the TV campaign provide a backdrop

    to the key messages and oers.

    Almost everyone travels at some point

    over Christmas to visit riends and amily,

    see a show or make a big shopping trip

    the Trainline positions itsel really

    eectively as the one-stop resource or

    all your Christmas travel needs.

    I love everything Hotter do and this

    There are lots o things I like about this

    email rom Pizza Express. First o all, I like

    the proposition Every customer gets a

    Christmas present with every main course.

    And then theres the design, which is

    lovely especially the little break out

    Christmas present at the top which is

    great or eye tracking.

    The Facebook competition, where

    customers are invited to share what

    they love about Christmas, is warm

    and engaging, which is proven by the

    act it is still selling well.

    entitled bad presents really grabbed

    my attention.

    This novel approach came rom Smith

    Hotels who gave the well-used advent

    calendar concept a bad-taste twist by

    illing it with awul presents you may

    receive rom your loved ones. Ater a

    sweater the colour o wee and re-gited

    jewellery, behind the 12th window they

    revealed a present really worthunwrapping a git card or Smith hotels.

    This email raised a smile with light-

    hearted humour and the short, snappy

    subject line set it apart rom the other

    generic estive email messages.
