Research Excellence

We want to attract not only the brightest students to ECU but to focus on projects which offer most benefit to Western Australia.

ECU’s graduate research students, whether they are studying for a Masters or PhD, are the thought leaders of the future. They are applying knowledge, solving problems and engaging with strategic issues of importance to ECU and our communities. They inspire others to aim high in their studies.

A scholarship for a graduate research student will ease the financial burden of every day costs, including rent, accommodation, textbooks and commuting. It will also allow students to focus on their research rather than have to supplement their income by working or studying part time.

Equity

ECU is proud to be continuously working on the enhancement and development of alternative entry pathways to higher education. We are Western Australia’s university of opportunity, committed to attracting and supporting the best students, regardless of their socio-economic status, ethnic grouping, location or disability.

We want to offer more scholarships to allow students the opportunity to study and to remove any barriers due to their financial position. These scholarships can allow students to enhance their studies by buying textbooks to do further reading, travelling overseas to apply their learning in another culture, or simply ease the day-to-day financial burden of being a student.

FUNDING STREAMS

Two special funds within the Inspiring Minds Scholarship program have been created to recognise those students displaying outstanding academic excellence and endeavour, as well as those whose journey of learning has so far not been an easy one.

I am grateful to be one of the recipients of this year’s prestigious Inspiring Minds Scholarship. I would like to thank you for your generous support towards my education endeavours. Having come from Congo in Africa, I have faced challenges financially in pursuit of my dream to complete my undergraduate studies in Computer Science, Cyber Security.

This scholarship opportunity has lightened my financial burden, as I had been contemplating on changing from being a full-time student to a part-time student to be able to meet my daily needs. This change may have affected my university performance as a high achieving student. The scholarship will allow me to continue pursuing my education as a full-time student; thereby aiding me to concentrate more on my studies as my burden has lessened with this generous support.

I once again would like to thank you for granting me this opportunity.

Aganze Matembela

Bachelor of Science (Cybersecurity)

Being a recipient of the Inspiring Minds Equity Scholarship will help to alleviate the financial stress that accompanies full time study and be of particular assistance while I complete my four-week teaching practicum. I am grateful for the wonderful opportunities Edith Cowan University has provided me with so far and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made the Inspiring Minds Equity Scholarship possible. Your kind donations are greatly appreciated and will be well utilised as I continue on my path to a career in education.

I want to openly thank you all for your generosity, this scholarship has allowed me to focus entirely on my studies and stage five nursing practicum, which was in a paediatric setting. Receiving this scholarship has also allowed me to put into place achieving one of my dream goals of travelling to Africa to care for those with HIV/AIDS, as I have now officially booked a trip to Tanzania to volunteer in a women and children’s HIV clinic.

Thank you again for your thoughtful and generous gift.

Jaydel Pallace

By granting me the Inspiring Minds Equity Scholarship, you have eased my financial burden for myself and my family, particularly during financially difficult times such as practical placements. This has allowed me to continue to focus on my course to be the best of my ability without the normal financial stresses.

I am truly very grateful and honoured to receive this scholarship and your generosity has motivated me to help others. I hope to one day have the opportunity to make a difference in a students’ life in a similar way.

Receiving this scholarship has lightened the financial burden of full time study commitments. It has enabled me the ability to reduce the time of my daily commute, meaning I have more time for study and time with my children. Not only that, it has assisted greatly with childcare costs and study costs. I am incredibly grateful and appreciative, it has made a significant difference in both mine and my children’ lives. Thank you!

Thank you for contributing to the inspiring minds scholarship program. My words can do very little to describe exactly how much being a recipient means to me, however you can rest assured that it will change my life for the better. This scholarship gives me the breathing space I need to be able to finish my degree on schedule and provides me with a stepping stone towards my future where I inspire to leave my mark on the world of science and innovation. Thank you.

Daniel Lee

Bachelor of Science (Cyber Security)

Thank you for awarding me a scholarship. The funds have gone towards a new refurbished laptop, as mine is very old and running out of date software. I can now run the computer programs I need for my course at home, instead of trying to find a free computer in the computer labs.

Your assistance has helped me so much. Im so very grateful for the financial help. Thank you so much.

I would like to say thank you to the people that donated money to the Inspiring Minds Scholarship.

I am a single mum to a gorgeous 3.5 year old little boy and I am studying full time.

The money awarded to me so far has helped me get my car serviced, get on top of my utility bills and has helped me purchase some items essential for my nursing studies i.e. text books, uniform items, stationary supplies etc.

The Inspiring Minds Scholarship has improved my financial situation markedly and I am so grateful to have this assistance.

I work very hard to achieve excellence in my studies and the financial assistance has helped me to be able to remain focussed on that goal.

Danae Bromilow

Bachelor of Science (Nursing)

I just wanted to say a big thank you to the staff and students at Edith Cowan University, as well as the wider community, for donating to and granting me the Inspiring Minds Scholarship. I greatly appreciate the financial assistance with my education.

Being granted the ECU Inspiring Minds Scholarship will assist me in funding my future education and study endeavours. Receiving this scholarship have helped me through financial hardship by allowing me to pay my university fees, as I am a domestic student paying fees upfront. This Scholarship will also assist me in paying for my textbooks in future units, which will enhance my learning experience and in terms, my grades.

Again, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

I would like to extend my most sincere and heartfelt thanks to the donors of the Inspiring Minds Scholarship. This scholarship has greatly assisted me in covering the costs associated with my study and will provide me with the ability to attend placement with the London Ambulance Service in 2019. Without the kind and generous donations of those who contributed to the Inspiring Minds Scholarship, I would not have been able to overcome the financial barriers limiting me. For giving me the opportunity to achieve academically despite that, I thank you all immensely.

Joshua Johnson

Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science)

I would like to say how grateful I am to be a recipient of the Inspiring Minds scholarship. Receiving this scholarship will allow me to commit more time towards my studies to enable me to become the best social worker that I can be.

In the future, I am hoping to gain employment working within schools as a social worker to provide children with the support they need to get the most out of their school years and become the best people they can.

Thank you so much.

I am greatly appreciative for having received this scholarship, which would not be possible if it were not for your generous and kind donations.

I am truly grateful to be the recipient of this scholarship, I am proud and honoured to receive it as it means I am able to continue to pursue my studies that will guide me to my future career goal to be a Paramedic.

Monique Rebelo

Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science)

I have come from a low-socio economic background with grave family struggles and hardships, though I believe from these situations it has allowed to me to be even more motivated to gain a higher level education, to not only support myself and my goals but to also achieve opportunities I would not have thought I would be able to gain.

This scholarship encourages me to continue to strive in my degree and will greatly aid me financially, which has been a worrying factor whilst committing to a full-time study load with limited resources to afford education materials and essentials. I do not take my education for granted and feel privilege to achieve the level of academic achievement that I have done and I endeavour to continue to reach with my upcoming studies and exams.

Thank you kindly for all the donations to make this scholarship possible and for it to be available for students that need support in order to continue their high achieving studies and showcase the future of ECU graduates.

I would like to thank the people that made this scholarship possible, it helps people with financial hardship like me to; invest more money into the university projects which in turn leads to better grades; spend more time studying rather than working to support the daily expenses of studying and living and takes the stress of worrying about money off my shoulders. Thank you so much!

Nikita Semenov

Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Renewable Energy) Honours

Thank you for this incredibly generous scholarship. This scholarship has given me the opportunity to work less in order to focus on becoming the best teacher I can be. I have always wanted to be involved in volunteer programs, such as ‘Teach Learn Grow’, but financially could not afford to take the time off work. You have made this dream possible for me. I can’t thank you enough.

Thank you to all the donors of this scholarship I am very thankful. This scholarship will greatly assist me to continue studying and volunteering to work towards the end of my degree. With this scholarship I will be able to put extra hours into my university work and be able to use more time doing additional work for my degree. This will help me to afford everyday life while being a full time student at ECU.

India Joyce

Bachelor of Science (Nursing)

I am writing to you to thank you for your kind donations, and to thank the committee for selecting me as a recipient of the ECU Inspiring Minds Scholarship. The additional financial assistance has significantly reduced my stress levels throughout this semester and has helped me to place greater focus on my studies, while allowing me to pay for ongoing medical support.

Without this assistance I would not be able to study as much as I have, and in turn would not be achieving the results I have this semester. So again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much for you continued support.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the sponsors of the Inspiring Minds Scholarship, that I was lucky enough to be awarded last year.

I don’t really have the words to express how much this meant to me and my family. Being awarded the scholarship allowed me to continue my studies for another year instead of deferring, as it meant I could buy all my books and stationery that I needed for my course.

Being a family on a single income, with three special needs children, money is always tight, so to say I was very emotional at being awarded the Inspiring Minds Scholarship would be an understatement.

Once again, I would like to say Thank You, you have made such a huge difference in my and my family’s lives.

Liese May

Bachelor of Arts (Psychology)

I am writing to sincerely thank you for your generous donation. I feel very grateful to have been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Inspiring Minds Equity scholarship.

I am currently studying Bachelor of Education (Primary) and aim to graduate by the end of 2021. Once I complete my degree, I aspire to work with students from low socio-economic backgrounds. I am very passionate about working closely with Indigenous students and their families to close the gap in education. Thanks to your continued generosity, I am one step closer to achieving my ambitions.

By awarding me the Inspiring Minds Equity scholarship, you have enabled me to focus solely on my studies as you have lightened the financial burden that myself and my family are currently experiencing. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and to give back to the community. I hope that one day I will be able to help students succeed in their education just as you have helped me.

Thank you very much to the staff and students of Edith Cowan University and the wider community for the personal donations made to support the Inspiring Minds Equity Scholarship. This financial aid is a true blessing and will be put to good use in supporting my future education.

I would like to thank each and every donor sincerely and whole-heartedly. I am a single mother and this money means more than I can really describe. To me it represents not only the opportunity to pay for the necessities of study, however it also represents faith and encouragement from my university faculty and past students that I sometimes lack for myself. This ultimately means it will change my life, and the life of a beautiful little girl. Thank you!

I would like to thank you for your generous contribution to the Inquiring Minds Scholarship. I am so honoured to receive this scholarship.

I am a third year Education student and the scholarship will be used towards professional development and learning opportunities that I would not have had the opportunity to participate in without the assistance from this scholarship. These professional learning opportunities will help me become the best educator I can be to my future students and give back to the wider community.

Perin Faulkner

Bachelor of Education (Primary)

I want to thank all the donors who have made this scholarship possible. This scholarship will enable me to buy hardware and software I require for my studies, i.e. a computer (as the one I have is old and has issues), Dragon voice recognition software, an ergonomic keyboard and hopefully a sit-stand workstation. As a pensioner and carer for my mother and son, I have not been able to afford these things. The computer I have is already causing significant issues, but next semester I should be able to afford a new one that is capable of handling the software I use.

There are truly no words that can express my gratitude to the donors and the university for opportunities afforded me, so I will simply state how much difference this scholarship will make to my studies and my future.
