Local Baby Greens/Chicories/Lettuce: While conventional Radicchio & Treviso have low yields projected for next month (first, extreme heat caused unseasonal bolting, & now cooler temperatures causing slow growth), County Line Organic Mixed Chicories are now in stock for the Fall/Winter season. The 5lb pack includes Castelfranco, Escarole, Frisee, Palla Blanco, Palla Rosa & Pan De Zucchero Chicories. County Line’s Petaluma crop of Organic Little Gem Lettuces is ending & we’re limited to twice a week deliveries; good news is that their Southern fields will be harvest-ready by early October. Also, new crop Conventional Sweet Gem Lettuce is coming on, limited to start. We have you covered with a limited amount of 5lb packed Little Gem from Coke Farms; expect a similar pack & yield. Last, high heat & mildew issues continue to limit supplies of Arugula, Spring Mix & Baby Spinach.Broccoli, Broccolini & Crowns: all in short supply because of last heat wave; strong/rising market. Cauliflower market expected to follow.Figs: Black Mission season ending; we’ll see some Brown Turkey to cover demand. Knoll Farms Fig season looks to be over- early this year because of heat waves in the recent past.Grapefruit: CA season winding down. 48 count especially limited; we’re using dierent sizes as needed to cover your orders. New crop TX due mid-October.Mache: Lakeville Specialty limited for 2 weeks; heat slows germination & growth.Maradol Papaya: New crop MX to be harvest-ready in 1 month; expect small fruit. Heirloom Tomatoes: ending early this season-hammered by heat & now cooler weather means slower growth. Shelf life is sub-par; the fruit has been stressed. Zucchini: CA season ending. That, plus heavy TX pull equals strong market & possible shortages until newer Nogales crops start up in mid-October.
Quality and Supply News
Heat Damage Update: Our recent wicked heat wave has negatively impacted many locally grown items,
including Berries, Stonefruit, Asian Pears, Lettuce, Organic Toybox Squash & Heirloom Tomatoes- among other crops. Growers are still sorting out how exten-sive losses will be. Expect fluctuations in quality, availability & pricing. Berries,
Lettuce & Tomatoes hardest hit, delayed heat damage now cropping up.
The farm owners are Andrew Brait, Judith Redmond, Paul Muller, Dru Rivers, Jenna Muller, and Amon Muller. With help from about 60 employees, the farm produces an
amazing diversity of vegetables, herbs, nuts, flowers, and fruits year-round. The farm also has a flock of chickens, a herd of sheep, a tribe
of goats, and several cows.
