Overview

This Guide will help you in installing CentOS 6.3 version – fresh install.

Applies To

CentOS 6.3 64 Bit

Step 1: Installation Type

Choose the installation type (new install or upgrade).

Step 2: Disk Test

If you are installing from an ISO on a virtual machine you could choose option “skip”, to continue installation.

Step 3: Main Page – Installation Process

Click on “Next” button to start the installation process.

Step 4: Select your Language – Installation Process

Select the language for the installation process and click on “Next” button.

Step 5: Choose the Keyboard

Select the keyboard for the Operating system and click on “Next” button.

Step 6: Type of Devices

Choose the storage device wherein the Operating system needs to be installed and click on “Next” button.

Step 7: Storage Device

Validate the disk for installation of the Operating system, for fresh install you need to choose the option “Yes, discard any data” also you could choose the option “Apply my choice to all the devices with undetected partitions or filesystems” to continue.

Step 8: Configure the network – hostname

Enter the hostname to be set for the computer where you are installing the operating system.

Choose “Configure Network” for network card configuration.

Step 10: Configure Network Connections (IPV4) & DHCP

Configure Network card, for DHCP select “Automatic (DHCP)”.

Step 11: Configure Network Connections (IPV6)

Step 12: Configure Time Zone

Choose the region / City and select “System clock uses UTC”; UTC option is used to determine the offset between the local time and UTC on the system clock.

Step 13: Set Root User password

Set the root user password and confirm by re-entering it and click on “Next” button.

Step 14: Disk Layout

Choose the disk layout, optionally you can also choose “Encrypt System”.

Step 14(a): Encrypt System (optional)

If you choose to encrypt system, you have to set the passphrase.

Note: The passphrase / password that you set is required to boot the system every time.

Step 15: Partition Disks (LVM)

Based on the previous installation type; you can customize it as well, to customize, click on reset and create partition accordingly.

Step 16: Format Disks

After selecting the drive, you should confirm to format the listed drive, click on “Format” button.

Step 17: Write Storage Configuration

Click on “Write changes to disk” option to accept the configured disk layout and write changes.

Step 18: Configure Boot Loader

In order to boot the OS without the media, you need to install boot loader. Boot loader is the first program that run’s when you boot, which takes control to the OS Kernel, which in turn initializes the rest of the operating system. Choose the “Install boot loader on <device ID/ Disk Partition>” and click on “Next” button.

Step 19: Package Group Selection

Choose the packages to be installed along with OS installation process. You can install further later on by choosing the option “Customize later”. Also choose the additional repository for software installation.

Step 20: Finish Install

After installation click on the option “Reboot” to complete the installation process and to reboot the system, ensure that you remove installation media.
