• Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Scan Disk or Defragmenter

o Run Scandisk – once a week

o Run Defragmenter and disk clean-up – once a month

• Hardware, such as plotters and digitizers, should be plugged into surge protectors.

4.5 Full Installation and Service Pack Application Rules

Once a full suite has been installed, you can install a service pack whenever you need.

• A Service Pack can only update a prior version (it cannot update the same day's full version or future full versions).

• A Service Pack can only upgrade a version. Installing a Service Pack that would degrade the version will have no effect. In order to roll back to a previous version, remove the most recent Service Pack using the Add/Remove Programs function.

• Only the most recent Service Pack is displayed in the Add/Remove menu. To uninstall earlier patches, uninstall the most recent Service Pack, and refresh the Add/Remove Programs window.

This key is plugged into a parallel port on the back of the computer. If the computer has a printer attached, the key is plugged into the back of the printer plug, as if to piggy back on the printer plug. This item enables the OptiTex software to run on your computer. When this key is not plugged into the back of the computer, a “HASP plug not found” error displays on the screen in the HASP Error Message dialog box. Authorizer keys are designed to prevent illegal copying and illegal use of the software. An authorizer key is also referred to as Key, Plug, Security Lock, Lock or Dongle.

13 Standard Hardware Connections For the official release, this section will be moved to the OptiTex knowledge base.

OptiTex software is one of the main components of a CAD solution. Additional components and a wide variety of technologies are available that facilitate the manufacturing process. This section provides a brief summary of recommendations and guidelines for hardware and other CAD components that customers may require in addition to OptiTex Ltd.

Networks

OptiTex software operates on any network that works with Windows, including Novell, Windows for Workgroups, LANtastic, and Windows NT. An OPTITEX USA, Inc. software key must be attached to each workstation on the network, unless a network key is used.

Digitizer

This component is required only if existing paper patterns need to be entered into the computer, or if the customer intends to continue making paper or muslin patterns by hand, and then import them into the OptiTex USA, Inc. CAD system. OptiTex recommends the use of digitizers manufactured by Altek. The size of the board required depends on the customer’s needs and price constraints. There are two sizes of digitizing tablets available: 36” X 48” and 42” X 60”.

Note: COM 1 and COM 3 share the same IRQ address. COM 2 and COM 4 also share the same

IRQ address. Therefore, the plotter and digitizer must be configured on COM 1 and 2 or on COM 3 and 4 respectively. For example:

Correct Configuration: COM1 Digitizer

COM2 Plotter

Incorrect Configuration: COM1 Digitizer

COM3 Plotter

Configuring the digitizer on COM1 and the plotter on COM3 may result in an IRQ conflict.

72” Plotter

Used to plot full size markers. OptiTex USA, Inc. recommends the OptiJet inkjet plotter.

36” Plotter

This is a great low-cost solution for pattern room plotting. When you use a 36” plotter for markers, you need to tape the markers together down the middle if the marker width exceeds 36”.

Printer

Used for printing miniature markers and reports. Some customers may already have a printer.

Digitizer and Plotters Recommendation

• Serial Com Port for the Digitizer – 9-pin male. The Altek and Numonics digitizer ships with a 9-pin female cable.

• Serial Com Port for the Plotter – 25-pin male. The Ioline plotter ships with a 25-pin female cable.

• Parallel port (25-pin female) for the printer.

• Parallel port (25-pin female) for the OptiJet plotter.
