HEATER INSTALLATION

1. Open all electrical disconnects and install lock−outtag before beginning any installation or service work.

2. Check for proper equipment model number from listin Table 1.

3. Remove unit side panel to access blower compart-ment (See Fig. 1).

4. Disconnect wiring to motor by removing speed selec-tion and power plugs from bottom of motor.

5. Remove rear blower support bracket; set bracket andattached motor wiring on top of unit.

6. Remove screws securing blower to front blower sup-port bracket; slide blower out of unit.

7. Open heater package and remove heater module;secure heater module to standoffs on blower inletwith (3) screws and (3) washers provided (see Fig. 2)and reinstall heater/blower assembly.

8. Reinstall rear motor support bracket and attachedmotor wiring. Do not reattach motor wiring plugs tomotor at this time.

9. Remove heater wiring cover plate from interior parti-tion between blower and control box (See Fig. 3) andinstall heater wiring plug attachment plate providedwith heater.

10. Remove unit side panel to access unit control boxcompartment.

11. Open heater package and remove heater controlpanel; set heater control panel on top of unit (See Fig.4).

12. Heater control panel will have black and yellow powerwires ending in panel mounted plugs; reach throughlarge rectangular opening in control panel and snapthese plugs into mating openings in heater wiring plugattachment plate installed in step 9 above (See Fig.3).

13. Rotate heater control panel into unit control box areaand locate it into top left corner of control box; secureheater control panel to unit control box with (4) screwsprovided (See Fig. 5).

14. Low voltage wires from heater control panel termin-ate in a harness plug; the mating 5 pin connector islocated on the unit fan control board at position P4.Open flexible ”fishpaper“ insulation cover providedwith unit control box and route heater low voltage har-ness along the bottom of the unit control box. Connectmating heater and fan control board plugs, dresswires and secure them to existing unit control wireswith wire ties provided (See Fig. 6).

15. Re−close flexible ”fishpaper” insulation cover; insureunit black and yellow power “pigtails” from contactorare properly routed through insulation cover (See Fig.7).

16. Connect the black and yellow (blue for 3 phase) ”pig-tails” from the heater control panel to the black andyellow pigtails from the unit contactor using the con-nectors provided with the heater.

17. Attach the adhesive backed wiring label provided withthe heater to the ”fishpaper” insulation cover.

18. Return to blower compartment and locate black andyellow power wires from heater module; these wireswill terminate in plug connectors that mate with theplug from the heater control installed in Step 13above. Snap these connectors into place; dress andsecure wires to fan wires with wire ties provided (SeeFig. 8).

19. Determine minimum airflow for safe heater operationfrom Table 2 and relocate black wire in motor fanspeed selection plug to required speed tap position(See Fig. 9). This wire may easily be relocated to therequired position by depressing the associated tab inthe front of the plastic housing, removing wire fromthe back of the housing and reinserting it into the

proper position (listen for the “click“ upon reinsertionto insure that the terminal is properly seated). Refer tounit installation instructions for airflow vs speed tapinformation.

20. Reinsert motor power plug into the rear opening in themating motor housing and then reinsert the motorspeed selection plug. Note that these plugs are inter-locked both to the motor housing and each other toinsure correct reinsertion.

21. Reattach the blower access panel and proceed toELECTRICAL CONNECTION section.

The circuit breakers supplied with these heaters areconsidered supplemental overcurrent protection and notbranch protection per the National Electrical Code (NFPA70−2008) article 422−11(f)

These heating elements shall be connected in protectedsubdivided circuits if any total concurrent loads of the unitexceeds 48 amps based on nameplate ratings perUL−1995 Section 30.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION1. Open all electrical disconnects and install lock−out tag

before beginning any installation or service work.2. All electrical connections, wire sizes and type of conduit

shall meet the National Electric Code and State and LocalCodes. Main power supply, minimum wire sizes, circuits, fusing, etc. are shown on schematic wiring diagrams.

Use minimum 75° C copper wire only.

3. Refer to base unit instructions for recommended wiringprocedures.

4. Connect low voltage wires as shown in unit schematicdiagrams. These connections must be made in the 24−v.barrier section inside the unit panel (See Fig. 7).

5. Connect field power wiring as shown in heater wiringdiagram . All connections should be made inside the

unit and comply with the National Electric Code andState and Local Codes. Heaters with factory installedcircuit breakers may be installed on a branch cirecuitprotected by either a fuse or circuit breaker. For allother heaters, the branch circuit must be protectedby a fuse or circuit breaker supplied by others.

6. Make all high voltage wire splice connections inside theunit control box. Use splice connectors provided. Properlyinsulate connectors. Separate all wires from incomingpower leads.

7. Be sure that all electrical terminal connections, clamps, screws, etc. are tight before proceeding.

8. Check wiring diagram supplied with heater for specificconnections and information (See Fig. 10 thru 17).

9. Check operation as described in Start−Up section.

ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD

!

Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury, death and/or property damage.

Before performing installation, service, or maintenanceoperations on unit, turn off unit main power switch and installlockout tag. There may be more than on disconnect switch.Turn off accessory heater power switch if applicable.

Unit MUST be grounded before making line voltageconnections. Do NOT fuse ground or neutral conductors.

START−UP

ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD

!

Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury, death and/or property damage. Before proceeding, verify that all wiring is correct per factoryapproved schematic. Notify factory immediately of anydiscrepancies.

1. Refer to base unit installation instructions as required.2. Check for loose terminal connections.3. Check that all fuse and circuit breaker short circuit

interrupting ratings are adequate.4. Turn on unit and heater power.5. Set thermostat to call for heat.6. Check operation of heater.7. Check that airflow across the heater is at or above the

minimum recommended CFM requirement (See Table 2).Adjust indoor blower heat speed as required.

8. Any modifications or repairs to this equipment withoutwritten permission from the factory will be done at theinstaller’s own risk and expense.

TROUBLE SHOOTING1. Circuit Breakers − Malfunction will interrupt power to the

unit. Check for cause of failure, replace fuses.2. Limit Switch − Malfunction prevents heating element(s)

from being energized. Replace switch if malfunctionoccurs.

3. Relay − Malfunction will not allow heater to energize.Replace faulty relay. Do not attempt to repair.
