LIVINGWATERS™ WATER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY

othing  is  more  important  to  health  than  pure,  life-‐giving  water.    Clean  water  flushes  impurities  from  our  systems,  regulates  body  temperature,  aids  in  digesting  the  food  we  eat,  and  transports  vital  nutrients  throughout  our

bodies.

Today’s  LIVINGWATERS™  Water  Treatment  Systems  are  the  finest  water  filtration  products  of  their  kind.    They  are  the  culmination  of  the  best  research  and  engineering  the  water  treatment  industry  has  to  offer.    They  are  sturdy,  effective,  reliable,  and  very  easy  to  use.

LIVINGWATERS™  cartridge-‐based  systems  effectively  remove  over  600  contaminants  from  tap  or  well  water  without  the  expense  and  hassle  of  buying,  hauling,  and  storing  bottled  water.    They  don’t  waste  water,  and  create  the  highest  quality  drinking  water  available  from  any  treatment  device.

All  LIVINGWATERS™  Water  Treatment  Systems  exceed  NSF  Standard  42  for  chlorine/taste  &  odor  reduction.    They  remove  fluoride,  chlorine,  chloramines,  haloacetic  acids,  trihalomethanes,  volatile  organic  chemicals  like  solvents,  herbicides  and  pesticides,  fuel  additives,  pharmaceutical  and  personal  care  product  residues  (PPCP’s),  as  well  as  heavy  metals  like  lead,  cadmium,  mercury,  and  arsenic.

Most  importantly,  our  proprietary  SAFEWATER™ TECHNOLOGY  removes  over  99.99999%  of  all  bacteria,  molds,  spores,  and  cysts,  and  over  99.95%  of  all  viruses  without  the  need  for  boiling,  power,  high  water  pressure  or  water  waste.  Your  LIVINGWATERS™ System  is  the  only  system  in  the  world  capable  of  this  kind  of  protection.

Because  all  our  systems  use  the  patented  redox  media  known  as  KDF®55,  water  treated  by  a  LIVINGWATERS™  Water  Treatment  Systems  does  not  easily  support  the  growth  of  disease-‐causing  microorganisms.    Because  the  media  improves  the  redox  potential  of  water,  it  actually  turns  water  into  a  powerful  liquid  anti-‐oxidant.  What’s  more,  it  makes  the  treated  water  an  excellent  source  of  life-‐giving  ionic  minerals  including  calcium,  magnesium,  potassium  and  zinc.

LIVINGWATERS™  Water  Treatment  Systems  include  a  wide  variety  of  models  designed  to  fit  any  need.    Whether  you  are  an  apartment  dweller  needing  something  portable,  a  homeowner  wanting  a  state-‐of-‐the  art  whole-‐house  system,  or  a  restaurant  owner  wanting  the  best  tasting  water  for  your  establishment,  your  purchase  of  LIVINGWATERS™ Water  Treatment  Systems  is  a  wise  investment.

RULES FOR SAFE INSTALLATION AND OPERATION

Read these rules and the instructions carefully. Failure to follow them could void your warranty and cause property damage.

Check your local codes to make sure your installation complies.

Protect the cartridge filter and piping against freezing temperatures. Failure to do so could cause severe damage not only to the unit, but to property as well.

Filter is designed for cold-water use only. Do not use to filter hot water.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

(PLEASE  READ  ALL  INSTRUCTIONS  BEFORE  STARTING  INSTALLATION.)   1. Remove  the  aerator  from  the  sink  faucet.

2. Screw  LIVINGWATERS™  diverter  valve  onto  faucet.    The  diverter  valve  includes  an  aerator.    If  diverter  valve  does  not  fit  properly,  install  one  of  the  adapters  supplied  with  the  filter,  into  the  faucet.    Then  screw  the  valve  onto  the  adapter.

3. Rotate  LIVINGWATERS™  filter  faucet  to  desired  position.    Faucet  nut  may  need  to  be  tightened  by  making  one  clockwise  turn  into  the  housing.

4. Place  LIVINGWATERS™  assembly  conveniently  next  to  sink  with  the  faucet  pointing  into  the  sink  basin.

5. Fast  flush  LIVINGWATERS™  unit  for  two  minutes  before  initial  use.  Turn  on  water  and  pull  the  valve  stem  on  the  diverter  valve  out.    This  will  cause  the  water  to  go  to  the  LIVINGWATERS™ unit  instead  of  the  sink  faucet.    To  stop  the  water  flow  to  filter,  either  push  the  valve  stem  in  or  turn  the  water  off.

6. During  initial  use,  water  and  airbursts  will  come  out  of  the  faucet  until  the  filter  completely  fills.    For  best  results,  after  several  hours  of  non-‐use,  flush  the  filter  for  at  least  10  to  15  seconds  before  using  water  from  the  filter.  If  filter  is  unused  for  more  than  3  days,  then  flush  the  filter  for  1  minute  before  using.

7. Water  flow  may  be  slow  initially,  but  will  increase  over  24-‐48  hours  as  the  filter  elements  become  conditioned.  Over  time,  because  all  water  supplies  contain  dirt  and  turbidity,  the  filter  cartridge  will  become  progressively  clogged  and  water  flow  will  gradually  be  reduced.  To  restore  flow  of  water,  it  is  necessary  to  replace  all  cartridges.  Cartridge  must  be  replaced  after  one  year  or  1,250  gallons  of  use.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

The  following  are  common  installation  problems  and  their  solutions:

HOUSING LEAKS WHERE THREADS CONNECT TO CAP

Clean,  re-‐lubricate,  and  re-‐seat  “O”-‐rings.

COMPRESSION FITTINGS LEAK

While  we  don’t  supply  parts  that  use  compression  fittings,  if  you  used  a  separate  saddle-‐tap  valve  you  may  have  a  compression  fitting  that  leaks.  If  so,  tighten  gently  until  leak  stops.  If  gentle  tightening  doesn’t  work,  unscrew,  tape  threads  with  Teflon  tape  and  retighten  securely.

JOHN GUEST (PUSH-IN STYLE) FITTINGS LEAK

1. Check  that  tubing  is  cut  square  and  inserted  to  the  proper  depth.

2. Insure  that  water  pressure  does  not  exceed  90  psi.

UNIT IS INSTALLED BUT NO WATER FLOWS

3. Check  that  the  main  water  supply  is  turned  on.

4. Check  that  the  angle-‐stop  valve  and/or  saddle-‐tap  valve  is  open.  (Verify  that  Step  #13  above  has  been  accomplished  properly.)

5. Check  that  water  supply  tubing  is  free  of  kinks.

6. Check  that  all  cartridges  are  installed  with  proper  end  up.

UNIT IS INSTALLED BUT WATER FLOWS VERY SLOWLY

7. Check  that  main  water  pressure  is  at  least  30  psi.

8. Check  that  angle-‐valve  and/or  saddle-‐tap  valve  is  completely  open.

9. Check  that  water  supply  tubing  is  free  of  kinks.

NOTE:  If  a  microbiological  cartridge  has  been  allowed  to  dry  out,  it  may  require  24  –  48  hours  to  become  reconditioned.  Water  flow  during  this  time  may  be  very  slow.

OPERATING & SERVICING

Your  LIVINGWATERS™  system  is  designed  to  produce  a  water  flow  of  approximately  ¾  gallon  per  minute  for  at  least  1,200  gallons.  This  should  be  sufficient  to  provide  purified  water  to  a  family  of  four  for  a  year.  Filters  should  be  changed  annually.  When  water  flow  slows  significantly  over  a  few  weeks,  the  filters  have  become  exhausted  and  must  be  replaced.  If  this  happens  more  than  once  every  6  months,  your  local  water  conditions  may  require  special  pretreatment  before  filtering.  Call  your  dealer  for  advice.

HOW TO CHANGE THE CARTRIDGES

1. Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after cleaning your filter.

2. Make certain that the water is turned off and open tap to relieve pressure in system. Note: There will still be water in the filter sump(s).

3. Over the sink, unscrew the sumps from their bases by turning counter-clockwise. (Use the spanner wrench provided to gently loosen housing then manually remove.) Replace cartridges one at a time to avoid confusion.

4. Remove spent cartridge(s) and discard. (Cartridges containing KDF® may be recycled by returning to your dealer or any firm that recycles scrap metal.) NOTE: When opening filter housing to change cartridge, it is common for O-ring gasket to lift out of housing and stick to cap.

5. Rinse out sump(s) and fill 1/3 with water. Add 2 capfuls of bleach and scrub thoroughly with brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly.

6. Remove  O-‐ring  from  groove  in  the  sump  and  wipe  groove  and  O-‐ring  clean.    Re-‐lubricate  O-‐ring  with  a  coating  of  clean  silicone-‐based  jelly.    Place  O-‐ring  back  in  the  groove  and  with  two  fingers  wipe  or  press  it  down  into  the  groove.    Note:  This  step  is  important  to  insure  proper  filter  seal.    Make  certain  the  O-‐ring  is  seated  properly  in  the  groove.

7. Be  sure  to  place  the  new  cartridge  in  the  sump  with  the  correct  end  visible.    Hard  plastic  cartridges  have  an  opening  in  one  end  and  the  other  has  slots  around  the  perimeter.    Install  into  the  sump  with  the  end  visible  that  only  has  the  opening  in  the  center.  It  should  fit  easily  into  the  sump.    If  any  pressure  is  required  to  slide  cartridge  into  sump,  you  are  installing  the  cartridge  upside  down.    Microbiological  cartridges  have  a  white  end  that  should  be  installed  toward  the  top  of  the  sump.  Pleated  cartridges  may  be  installed  with  either  end  up.  Other  cartridges  may  say:  “THIS  END  NEXT  TO  VESSEL  THREADS”  or  an  embossed  arrow.  If  so,  install  accordingly.

8. Next,  screw  the  cap  on  the  sump  clockwise.  Hand-‐tighten  only.

LIVINGWATERS™  COUNTERTOP  SYSTEM  MANUAL

Page  11  of  20

9. Remove  the  horizontal  in-‐line  housing  by  following  Step  4  on  page  13  and  replace  with  new  housing  by  pressing  tubes  into  the  fittings.  Make  sure  the  large  knurled  end  of  the  in-‐line  housing  is  over  the  clear  housing  below.

10. Restore  water  flow  to  unit  and  allow  it  to  run  for  2  minutes  until  thoroughly  flushed.  Dry  cartridges  may  require  24  –  48  hours  to  become  “conditioned”  to  obtain  full  water  flow.

11. It  is  common  for  new  cartridges  to  add  a  lot  of  tiny  bubbles  to  the  water  making  it  look  cloudy  and  have  a  slightly  “soda”  taste.  This  is  just  air  and  is  not  dangerous.  As  the  cartridges  become  conditioned  the  water  will  become  clear  and  the  taste  will  disappear.

IMPORTANT NOTES

WARNING!    Do  not  use  any  water  treatment  system  without  SAFEWATER™ TECHNOLOGY  on  water  that  is  not  known  to  be  microbiologically  safe  without  adequate  disinfection  before  or  after  the  unit.

NOTE:    After  prolonged  periods  of  non-‐use  (such  as  during  a  vacation),  flush  the  unit  thoroughly.    Let  water  run  for  2  -‐  3  minutes.

NOTE:  Each  time  you  use  water  from  your  LIVINGWATERS™  filtered  water  tap  for  drinking  or  cooking  purposes,  it  is  recommended  that  you  run  (flush)  the  tap  at  least  5  -‐10  seconds  prior  to  using  water.    This  is  particularly  important  if  the  water  tap  is  not  used  daily.

NOTE:  Replacement  cartridges  have  a  limited  service  life.    Changes  in  taste,  color  and  flow  of  the  water  being  filtered  are  signals  that  replacement  of  the  cartridge(s)  is  or  soon  may  be  necessary.  When  the  flow  decreases,  taste  or  odors  return,  chlorine  can  be  detected  with  chlorine  test  strips,  or  the  cartridge  has  been  installed  for  one  year  the  cartridge  needs  to  be  replaced.    Check  specific  filter  cartridge  for  recommended  useful  life  in  terms  of  gallons.

CAUTION:  The  rubber  O-‐ring  provides  a  watertight  seal  between  the  cap  and  the  sump.    It  is  important  that  the  O-‐ring  be  properly  seated  in  the  groove  in  the  sump  or  a  water  leak  could  occur.

CAUTION:  Your  LIVINGWATERS™  must  be  protected  against  freezing.    Failure  to  do  so  may  result  in  cracking  of  the  filter  and  water  leakage.

CAUTION:  Your  LIVINGWATERS™  filter  is  intended  for  use  with  normal  household  water  pressure  (30  –  60  psi).  Pressures  under  30  psi  may  result  in  slow  delivery  of  product  water.    Use  with  water  pressure  over  90  psi  will  void  your  warranty.

REPLACEMENT CARTRIDGE INFORMATION

These  cartridges  are  the  replacement  cartridges  commonly  used  in  our  Point-‐of-‐Use  Systems.  All  cartridges  except  in-‐line  filters  will  fit  any  standard  10”  housing.  For  a  complete  list  of  available  cartridges,  please  consult  our  website  at:  www.livingwatersway.com

LW10FRC – FLUORIDE/ARSENIC (FIRST IN LINE AFTER DIVERTER)

This  cartridge  utilizes  a  new  premium  media  specifically  designed  for  high-‐capacity  fluoride  and  arsenic  reduction.  It  is  capable  of  reducing  fluoride  content  that  begins  as  high  as  10  ppm  to  below  .2  ppm.  For  average  drinking  water  this  means  that  the  filter  will  remove  over  95%  of  fluoride.  Its  capacity  is  over  4,000  parts  per  million.  This  means  that  if  water  has  2  ppm  of  fluoride  (average  for  most  municipal  water)  the  cartridge  has  the  capacity  to  clean  over  2,000  gallons  of  water.  However,  because  the  vast  majority  of  waters  contain  other  contaminants  that  are  also  removed  by  this  cartridge,  its  service  life  will  actually  be  closer  to  1,500  gallons  or  one  year.

LW10PAC2.5AG NANOCERAM SUPERFILTER (CENTER HOUSING)

This  cartridge,  developed  in  association  with  NASA  and  the  U.S.  Air  Force  is  made  of  a  newly  developed  electropositive  media  capable  of  removing  particles  as  small  as  a  virus  without  the  extreme  pressure  drop  associated  with  reverse  osmosis.  This  technology  received  the  Space  Foundation’s  Hall  of  Fame  award  for  2005.  By  itself  it  is  capable  of  a  6-‐log  reduction  of  bacteria  and  a  4-‐log  reduction  of  virus  as  well  as  a  wide  spectrum  of  chemicals.  It  was  developed  as  a  lightweight,  highly  efficient  cartridge  that  capable  of  making  water  safe  without  the  need  for  power  or  water  waste  during  long  space  flights.  We  use  it  as  a  pre-‐filter  to  extend  the  life  of  our  capillary  membrane  technology  that  follows.  Because  our  systems  contain  both  media,  we  can  say  our  systems  are  failsafe  for  microbiological  contamination  without  the  need  for  power.CARTRIDGE  3:  LW10DFMF  Microfiltration  Cartridge  (Next  to  Tube  connected  to  optional  top  Filter  or  faucet)

LW10DFMF NORIT DUO-FLOW (CLEAR HOUSING)

The  patented  dual-‐media  cartridge  incorporates  the  first  practical  combination  of  media  capable  of  providing  a  guaranteed  6  log  (99.9999%)  removal  of  dangerous  microorganisms  like  bacteria,  cysts,  molds,  and  spores,  and  99.95%  removal  of  virus,  all  without  the  need  for  power,  high  water  pressure,  water  waste,  or  the  possibility  of  breakthrough.

LIVINGWATERS™  COUNTERTOP  SYSTEM  MANUAL

Page  13  of  20

This  microbiological  cartridge  is  best  used  when  water  has  been  pre-‐treated  by  the  LW10PAC2.5.  Such  pre-‐treatment  will  not  only  remove  a  wide  variety  of  chemicals,  but  will  substantially  extend  its  service  life.

The  average  service  life  of  this  cartridge  is  1,500  gallons  or  1  year  (if  water  has  been  pre-‐filtered  by  the  LWKCAC®)  or  750  gallons  or  six  months  without  such  pre-‐treatment.  In  either  case,  replace  when  water  flow  is  diminished  for  reasons  other  than  an  “air-‐lock”.  Air  locks  can  happen  when  the  system  is  drained  of  water  (usually  when  the  preceding  filters  are  changed)  and  air  enters  the  fine  pore  structure  of  the  capillary  membrane  element.  Water  flow  is  restored  over  time  as  the  trapped  air  gradually  dissipates  (2-‐3  days).

LW12ILKCAC (HORIZONTAL HOUSING)

The  LIVINGWATERS™  LWUC4  or  LWCT4  Systems  incorporate  a  fourth  housing  0n  the  top  of  the  filter  that  can  handle  a  variety  of  optional  cartridges  depending  on  your  water  needs.  It  comes  standard  with  a  LW12ILKCAC,  which  is  a  mini-‐version  of  our  whole  house  chemical  removal  system.  It  contains  catalytic  carbon  and  KDF®55  to  remove  chlorine,  chloramine,  disinfection  by-‐products,  volatile  organic  chemicals,  insecticides,  herbicides,  solvents,  MTBE,  perchlorate,  atrazine,  pharmaceutical  residues,  and  heavy  metals  as  efficiently  as  the  best  reverse  osmosis  systems  without  the  water  waste  associated  with  RO.

Chloramines  can  impart  an  “acrid”  taste  and  odor  to  water  and  can  also  cause  irritation  to  the  lining  of  the  gastrointestinal  system.  In  spite  of  this  problem,  water  treatment  plants  are  using  this  compound  instead  of  chlorine  to  disinfect  water.  This  is  done  in  order  to  minimize  the  formation  of  trihalomethanes  (THM’s)  which  are  now  known  to  be  far  more  carcinogenic  than  previously  supposed.  Unlike  chlorine,  chloramines  are  extremely  persistent  in  water.  They  do  not  evaporate  out  of  water,  and  they  go  right  through  most  treatment  technologies  including  reverse  osmosis  and  distillation  systems  that  don’t  use  this  cartridge.  The  average  service  life  of  this  cartridge  is  1  year.

OPTIONAL CARTRIDGES

LW12ILCAL

For  people  who  want  to  raise  pH  or  add  additional  alkaline  minerals  in  their  water  this  cartridge  is  filled  with  a  special  media  that  will  add  calcium  and  magnesium  to  the  water.

LW12ILDI

When  it  is  necessary  to  remove  certain  ionic  impurities  in  the  water,  this  cartridge  is  filled  with  a  special  mixed  bed  deionizing  resin  that  will  polish  water  to  a  very  low  TDS.
