2. The following list describes some ofthe precautions which should be fol-lowed when selecting a mount-ing location.

a. The face of the sensor will have anunobstructed view of the ground.

The area that must remain unob-structed is cone shaped from theface of the sensor to the ground asshown. The pattern of the sensorsignal on the ground is oval shapeddue to the installation angle. Thesize of the ovaI pattern is depen-dent on the sensor height aboveground. The following is the patternsize for the indicated height

SENSOR PATTERNHEIGHT SIZE (OVAL)18 inches 18.8 x 12.7 inches24 inches 24.17 x 17.2 inches48 inches 31.0 x 25.6 inches

b. Fluids do not drip on sensor facearea.

c. The sensor is away from all heatsources.

d. The sensor face or rear metalhousing does not touch the vehicle.

e. The sensor is protected fromstubble and debris.

f. It is recommended that the sensorbe installed facing the rear of the ve-hicle. NOTE: There may be instanceswhere the sensor wiII have to be ori-ented facing forward, but rear facingis preferred to offer more physical pro-tection to the radar sensor.

g. The sensor mounting location musthave a minimal amount of vibration;excessive vibration may cause erro-neous MPH readings with the vehiclestationary.

NOTE: Care must be exercised whenselecting mounting heights of more thanfour feet. The sensor must have an un-obstructed cone shaped view of theground. If a vehicle tire, hose, or liquidline is within the cone shaped area, erroneous readings may result

A. PLATE MOUNTING BRACKET(fabricated by user)

1.Shown above is a dimensional draw-ing of the plate mounting bracket, which may be fabricated by the in-staller. The mounting plate must bemade out of 5/16 inch steel plate.IMPORTANT: Using steel plateless than 5/16 inch may allow theradar velocity sensor to vibratewhich could cause erroneousMPH(kph) readings.

Refer to the above illustration and makethe flat plate mounting bracket as shown.

NOTE: The most critical dimensions arethe placement of the four Radar I I Sen-sor mounting holes. However, theseholes may be ovaled out if they are notdrilled in the exact location.

Suggested mounting hardware is as fol-lows.1. 3/8-16 x 1-1/2" Bolts (2)2. 3/8 Split Ring Lockwashers (2)3. 3/8 Nuts (2)4. 1/4 - 20 x 4" Bolts, SST (4)5. 1/4 Flatwashers, SST (8)6. 1/4 - 20 Nuts, SST (4)7. 1/4 Split Ring Lockwashers,

SST (4)8. 9/32" x 1/2" x 9/10" Spacers (4)

(Dj-Part No. 45640-4110)

IMPORTANT: MAKE CERTAIN THE MOUNT-ING PLATE DOES NOT EXTEND PAST THESENSOR HOUSING. METAL BESIDE THEFACE AREA CAN CAUSE IMPROPEROPERATION OF THE SENSORS.

IMPORTANT: MAKE CERTAIN THAT THEMETAL REAR HOUSING OF THE SENSORDOES NOT COME IN CONTACT WITH THEVEHICLE FRAME OR THE MOUNTINGBRACKET. Such contact can causeerratic readings by introducing electri-cal noise into the sensor. Under certaincircumstances, such contact may causeelectrical damage to the sensor.

2. Refer to the above illustration andinstall the DjRVS ll Sensor on theflat plate mounting bracket asshown with the enclosure seam onthe side. Make certain spacers areinstalled as shown.

CAUTIONDO NOT EXCEED 30-35 LB-IN (3.0-3.5N.M.) OF TORQUE WHEN TIGHTEN-ING THE FOUR 1/4-20x4BOLTS SE-CURING THE RADAR ll TO THEMOUNTING BRACKET. OVER TIGHT-ENING MAY FRACTURE THE RADARll SENSOR HOUSING.NOTE: WHEN INSTALLING THEDjRVS ll RADAR VELOCITY SENSORMAKE CERTAIN THE SEAM IN THESENSOR HOUSING IS MOUNTED INTHE HORIZONTAL PLANE AS ILLUS-TRATED ABOVE.

3. Refer to the above illustration andinitially drill out the “A” mountinghole. Install a 3/8 inch bolt, lockwasher and nut. Tighten thebolt enough so the mounting platewill hold position without slipping.Tape the alignment template to theradar and using a small carpenter’slevel rotate the mounting plate untilthe dotted line on the template islevel. Drill out the “B” mounting hole.

NOTE: If required, the “B” mounting holecan be ovaled out to provide the rota-tion necessary to adjust the radar angle.

B. PIPE MOUNTING BRACKETKITS

This mounting bracket kit consists of amounting plate, two U-bolts withlockwashers and nuts, and four 1/4 - 20x 4 inch bolts with lockwashers andnuts. This kit is used to install theDjRVS ll on the “L” pipe mountingbracket. If the pipe mounting bracket isalready installed, proceed to Step 3;otherwise proceed as follows:

TYPICAL MOUNTING LOCATIONS

:

1. Select a location (on inside of mainframe when possible) to install thesensor “L” pipe mounting bracket. If possible, select a location wheretwo existing bolts can be used anddrill matching holes in the angle ironon the pipe mounting bracket. Thetwo preceding illustrations showsome typical mounting positions.

2. If two existing bolts are not at theselected location, drill two holes inthe mounting surface and twomatching holes in the angle iron onthe pipe mounting bracket (checkopposite side of drilling surface forwires, hoses, etc.). Before install-ing the pipe mounting bracket, make certain the sensor can bepositioned over the pipe extendingfrom the bracket. If not, the sensorwill have to be installed on the pipebefore the mounting bracket is se-cured to the mounting surface.

IMPORTANT: Welding the bracket tothe mounting surface is NOT RECOM-MENDED. Excessive frame vibrationmay necessitate the relocating of themounting bracket to a more stable lo-cation. Also, do not weld the bracket ina location that inhibits the removal ofthe sensor.

CAUTION: IF, AT ANY TIME, AN ARCWELDER IS USED ON THE VEHICLEOR ANYTHING CONNECTED TO THEVEHICLE, DISCONNECT ALL POWERAND GROUND LEADS WHICH PRO-VIDE POWER FOR THE SYSTEM.FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT INDAMAGED ELECTRONIC COMPO-NENTS, IN WHICH CASE THE WAR-RANTY WILL BE VOID.

3. Refer to the above illustration andinstall the sensor mounting hard-ware as shown. Make sure the sen-sor is above the pipe with its facetowards the rear of the vehicle andthe enclosure seam on the side.Tighten the four bolts holding thesensor to the mounting plate.Tighten the U-bolts until the sensorwill hold position but can still be ad-justed as needed on the pipe.

CAUTIONDO NOT EXCEED 30-35 LB-IN (3.0-3.5N.M.) OF TORQUE WHEN TIGHTEN-ING THE FOUR 1/4-2Ox4" BOLTSSECURING THE RADAR ll TO THEMOUNTING BRACKET.OVER TIGHTENING MAY FRACTURETHE RADAR ll SENSOR HOUSING.

NOTE: WHEN INSTALLING THEDjRVS ll RADAR VELOCITY SENSORMAKE CERTAIN THE SEAM IN THESENSOR HOUSING IS MOUNTED INTHE HORIZONTAL PLANE AS ILLUS-TRATED ABOVE.

4. Refer to the above illustration andinstall the sensor angle setting tem-plate (template is located at rear ofinstruction) on the side of the radarsensor as shown. Make certain theshort solid lines are lined up withthe sensor housing seam. Tape tem-plate in place.

Using a level as shown, rotate thesensor on the mounting pipe untilthe dotted line on the template islevel. Tighten the mounting hard-ware. NOTE: The vehicle must beon level ground when the angle isset.

IMPORTANT: Make certain thatthe metal rear housing of the sen-sor does not come in contact withthe vehicle frame or the mountingbracket. Such contact can causeerratic readings by introducing elec-trical noise into the sensor. Undercertain circumstances, such con-tact may cause electrical damageto the sensor.

5. Route the sensor cable to the loca-tion of the console radar cable con-nector. NOTE: Do not secure thecable until sensor has beenchecked for vibration. Excessive vi-bration may cause ground speed(MPH) readings to be above zerowhen the vehicle is stationary. Tocheck for vibration, start vehicleengine and slowly increase engineRPM (while watching the groundspeed readout) to approximately1800. If the ground speed readingsare above zero, the sensor must bemounted in an alternate, morestable location. After the sensorreadings have been checked andfound to be stable, secure the sen-sor cable where it will not be dam-aged.

NOTE:When the sensor is installed and thesystem is operational, the sensor orconsole must be calibrated.

Refer to the Installation and OperationManual of your monitor console andperform the ground speed (distance)calibration procedure as described.
