INSTALLATION: EXPANSION & CONTRACTION

Acclimating Boards Installationcantakeplaceoverafewdays,resultinginvarying installationtemperatures,dependingontheprojectsite,the

boardsmayexperiencedifferingheatingandcoolingrates. Allow boards to acclimate on-site for 24 hours before installing.Oncetheinstallationiscomplete,waittocutthe

ends of the installed boards to the desired length in order to allow the boards to fully acclimate to the site�

As shown in Fig� 1�


Breaker Boards Breakerorboarderboards(boardslaidat90°totherestofthe deck) can be used to create a boarder around the deck and

willaidincontrollingexpansion&contractions.Blockingwillneedtobeusedtosupportthebreakerboard.Atamaximumspacingof16”[407mm]O.C.Thebreakerboardwillneedtobesurfacemountedtotheblockingwithcompositescrews.

As shown in Fig� 2� Note: • Use a breaker board between long run boards to assist incontrollingexpansionandcontraction.Thisapproach

hastheaddedbenefitofcreatingamorevisuallypleasing aesthetic.ReferenceSupports&Spanssectiononpage14. • Breakerboardsmustbesupportedbyjoistsorblocking. • Where breaker boards cannot be used, double joists must

Fastening Points Using A Single Grooved Edge Board TheI-SeriesStarterBoardprofilecanbeusedtoframeyour

deck.Itisonlygroovedononesideandhasafinishedsquareedge on the other side�

• Thisperimeterboardshouldbetop-fixedusingcolor matchingcompositedeckscrews.

• The screws should be located 1-1/4”[32mm] away fromanyedgeoftheI-Seriesprofile. • UseHULKhiddenfastenersbetweendeckingprofiles. STEP 1:Applysoapywatertoyourdeckwithasponge.STEP 2:Sweeptheliquidoveryourdeckusingthehard-bristled broom,makingsuretoremovealldirtandresiduefrom thegapsbetweenthedeckingboards.Sweepinginthe directionofthegrainisbest.STEP 3:Ifresidueand/ordirtarestillevidentonyourdeck,a highpressurehoseisveryeffectiveinremovingstubborn andunavoidableorganicwaste.

NOTE:Useahighpressurehosewithawidefantipatpressuresunder1500psi.Remembertokeepthehoseatleast12”or300mmawayfromthesurfacewhenspraying.

Forbestresults,highpressurehoseyourdeckwhilesimultaneouslybrushingitwithahard-bristledbroomandsoapywater.Werecommendpressurewashingyourdeckonceamonthtokeepitlookingcleanandcaredfor.

Pleaseexerciseextremecautionaspressurewashingcandamageyour I-Seriesdeckifdoneincorrectly.Ifyounoticeanychangestothesurfaceofyourprofile,stopimmediatelyand contact Fortress�

General Care • Wash I-Seriesprofileperiodicallyusingstandardhousehold

cleaners� • Strongdetergents,oxidizersandconcentratedmineral acids,aromaticand/orhalogenatedhydrocarbons,esters,

ethers,andketonesshouldbeavoided. • Water,aqueoussaltsolutions,detergentsolutions,dilute

acidsandalkaliesareacceptable. • Toensurethatthecleanerwillnotdamagethecap,test

asmallpatchofprofileorascrappieceofI-Series material before use� • Donotusestandardcompositeprofilecleaners on I-Series� • Cleanupspillsassoonasispossibletopreventthemfrom

becoming stains� • Certainchemicalsininsectsprays,sunblock’s,oilsfrom

certainplants,andundilutedchlorinearesomecommon materialsthatmaycomeincontactwithyourprofileand arenotcompatiblewiththeHDPECap.Preventthesema terialsfrominteractingwiththeI-Series boards�

• Items such as rubber mats and garden hoses may leach esters,whichmayaffectthesurfaceoftheI-Series boardsovertime,careshouldbetakentoprevent

prolongedexposure.• Periodicallymove,orremove,furniture,doormats,planters

andotheraccessoriestoavoiddifferentialweathering.• PVCglues,cement,paint,etc.maydamageanddiscolorthe

surfaceoftheprofile.• Abristledbrush,canbeusedtoremoverust,orsimilar,stains.• Forparticularlystubbornstains,thesurfacecanbegently

sanded.Thisnaturallyremovesmaterialfromtheprotectivecapandshouldbeavoidedasitmayaffectthesurface

of the board�


• Mineraldepositsthatoccurasaresultoftheevaporationofsolutionswithhighsaltcontentscanleavewhiteresiduesonadecksurface.Theprimarycause(s)ofthisisduetothe

waterqualityand/orsurroundingenvironment.Oneshouldavoidallowingwaterwithahighmineralcontenttopoolonthedeckprofileswherepossible.Theseresiduescanbecleanedwiththemethodsprescribedabove.Foranyfurtherassistancepleasecontactusatinfo@fortressbp.com�

Ice & Snow • Typicalmaterialsusedtocleaniceandsnowfromsurfaces

that contain calcium chloride and/or sodium chloride may be used on I-Seriesboards.Asdiscussedabove,thesemayleaveawhiteresidueonthedeck.Thesecan,however,becleanedwiththemethodsprescribedabove.

• Donotusemetalshovelsorothersharpobjectsonthe I-Seriessurface.Useaplasticshovelandrounded/beveled

toolswhenscrappingofficeorsimilar.• Notethatsurfaceslipresistancewillbereducedwithice, snoworsimilarpresentandcareshouldbetakenon these occasions�

Static Charge • Materialswithgreaterpolaritythatareinadryandlow humidityenvironmentwillhaveastrongerchargeupon separationofthetwomaterials.• Staticchargebuildupcanbereducedbygroundingtheprofile

structureand/orincreasingthehumidityoftheenvironment.Staticdischargecanbeavoidedinparticularareas

(forexample,accesspoints)withtheplacementofstatic control grounding mats�

1. Product Performance:At Fortress Building Products, we stand behind every product we sell. However, it is normal for all decking products to age over time. Aging is a common occurrence for a product that is exposed to sun, rain, or any elements of nature. Predicting the life of the Product can be challenging since no two instal-lations experience aging factors in the same way. The Product will age at different rates due to climate, UV index, quality of installation, usage, and many other factors that can cause aging. Fortress Building Product has provided You this Limited Warranty, subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein, to give You peace of mind in the event a manufacturing defect causes a failure of the Product as outlined below. If, for any reason, the Product shows signs of failure, damage, or dete-rioration, immediately replace or repair the Product to avoid potential safety hazards.

2. Warranty Coverage: Standard 25-Year Limited Residential Warranty. Standard 10-Year Limited Commercial Warranty.

FortressBuildingProductwarrantsthefadeandstain resistance of the Product to Purchaser, under normal useandproperserviceconditions,foraperiodoftwen-ty-five(25)yearsfromthedateoforiginalpurchaseforResidentialApplication,asfollows: (A) Fade Resistance: TheProduct’scolorwillnotfadefromlightandexposuretotheelementsofnaturemorethan5DeltaE(CIE)Units.Importantly,whiletheproductisdesignedtoresistfading,FortressBuildingProd-uctsdoesnotwarranttheProducttobefade-proofasnomaterialisfade-proofwhenexposedtoUVraysandotherelements of nature� (B) Stain Resistance: The Product will be resistant topermanentstainingresultingfromfoodandbeverageitemstypicallypresentonaresidentialdeck(e.g.,mustard,ketchup,mayonnaise,barbecuesauce,soda,andcoffee)spilledontothesurfaceoftheProduct,orfrommoldandmildewnaturallyoccurringintheenvironment,provided that:

1. Withinone(1)weekofexposureofthefoodor beveragetothesurfaceoftheProductor,inthe case of mold and mildew, within one (1) week of thefirstappearanceofthemoldandmildew, Purchaserattemptstocleantheaffectedareausing thecleaningproceduresoutlinedintheFortress DeckCleaningandCareGuide(availableatwww. fortressdeck�com/resources); 2. Ifthestainisstillunreasonablyvisibleafter completingthecleaningproceduresoutlinedinthe FortressDeckCleaningandCareGuide,the Purchasermusthavetheaffectedareacleanedby aprofessionaldeckcleaneratthePurchaser’s


aprofessionaldeckcleaneratthePurchaser’s expensewithinone(1)weekofexposureofthe foodorbeveragetothesurfaceoftheProductor, in the case of mold and mildew, within one (1) weekoffirstappearanceofthemoldandmildew; and 3. If,aftercompletingtheimmediatelypreceding two(2)steps,thestainstillremainsunreasonably visible,thePurchasermustnotifyFortressDeck withinthirty(30)daysaftertheprofessional cleaningwascompleted.

FortressBuildingproductsdoesnotwarrantthattheProd-uctisstain-proof,anddoesnotprovidewarrantycoveragefromspilledorotherwiseappliedfoodorbeveragesub-stances,orfrommoldandmildew,whichisnotpromptlyandproperlycleanedasoutlinedaboveandinaccordancewiththeFortressBuildingProductsCleaningandCareGuide(availableatwww.fortressdeck.com/cleaningand-care).Additionally,becausemoldandmildewcansettleand grow on any outdoor surface, including this Product, Youshouldperiodicallycleanandremovedirtandpollenfrom the Product that can feed mold and mildew�

AllwarrantiesandcoverageprovidedunderthisLimitedWarrantyaresubjecttoallexclusions,limitations,andrestrictionsset forth herein�

9� Any fading or staining not on the surface of the Product (i�e�, the underside or ends of the Product); 10� Improperhandling,maintenance,upkeep,storage, abuse, neglect, or misuse of the Product by Purchaser,anytransfereeorthirdparties; 11� Exposuretoexcessiveheatsources(directlyor indirectly),including,withoutlimitation,fire, reflectedsunlightfromlow-emissivity(Low-E)glass or other enhanced or concentrated solar reflectivity; 12� Fabricationorre-manufacturingbyPurchaser, transfereeorthird-parties; 13� Ordinarywearandtear,scratchingorscuffing;and 14� Impactfromobjects.

Chez Fortress Building Products, nous croyons en chaque pro-duit que nous vendons. Toutefois, il est normal que les produits de terrasse s’usent avec le temps. L’usure est normale pour un produit exposé au soleil, à la pluie et aux autres phénomènes naturels. Prédire la durée de vie d’un produit peut être diffi-cile puisque toutes les installations connaissent des facteurs d’usure différents. Le produit usera à une vitesse variable selon le climat, l’indice UV, la qualité de l’installation, son utilisation et plusieurs autres facteurs. Fortress Building Products vous offre cette garantie limitée, sujette aux modalités ci-après, pour vous offrir la paix d’esprit en cas d’un défaut de fabrica-tion qui entraînerait une défectuosité du produit, tel que décrit ci-dessous. Si, pour quelque raison que ce soit, le produit montre des indices de défectuosité, de dommages ou de dété-rioration, remplacer ou réparer le produit immédiatement pour prévenir les risques d’accident.
